Why Cindy Carlson chose Idaho

The Carlson family has lived on the river since the 1920's. Gus Carlson moved to this area when he was 14 and started sheep herding. In 1929 Gus bought his first piece of property and began sheep ranching on the Salmon River. The ranch is still in operation today. The cabin is located on the family ranch and named in honor of Great Grandpa Gus. We wanted to share our love for this place we call home with people who appreciate its beauty as much as we do.

What makes this cabin unique

The Main Salmon River was nicknamed “The River of No Return” back in the early days when boats could navigate down the river, but could not get back up through the fast water and numerous rapids. The romantic name lives on today, even though jet boats can navigate upstream. In contrast to the Grand Canyon, the Salmon River Canyon is not noted for sheer walls and towering heights, but instead for the variety of landscapes visible from the river; wooded ridges rising to the sky, huge eroded monuments, bluffs, picturesque rock towers, and solitary crags.

Beach vacation in ID

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was everything we could have asked for and more. The beach was awesome. The sand was what you would expect in Florida, plus it came with an incredible view of the canyon and wildlife. The cabin itself had very nice amenities and was equipped with everything we needed including a grill, outdoor fire ring, beach towels, etc. The location was also ideal, off the beaten path, but only a short drive into town. The area itself is an outdoors-men's paradise and the cabin served as a great base to explore, which for us included hiking in Hell’s Canyon and kayaking down the Salmon River. We generally like to go to new places for vacation, but we spent our last evening at the cabin planning our return visit, which will hopefully be soon. Can’t wait to come back!

perfectly efficient layout and well appointed vacation rental

  • 5 of 5

This is our second trip to the Salmon River area and this place is exceptional. Being right on the water is spectacular, and we had a successful hunt, thanks. The property was clean, well maintained, and the layout and amenities surpass expectations. The property owner/manager is a good communicator and very helpful and accomodating. I would recommend this property to friends and family, and we will be returning next year.

A friend and I traveled from Michigan to spend a weekend hiking and fishing in Riggins. The cabin accommodations were fantastic. The location was beautiful. And the fishing was incredible. We really enjoyed our stay and greatly appreciated the helpfulness of the owner in making sure our stay was a dream getaway. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us. We will highly recommend it to others.

Absolutely fabulous!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose Idaho as the destination of our 1st Anniversary/honeymoon getaway, purely from the pictures of this cabin on VBRO, and our desire for a mountain/river retreat out West. All I can say is WOW! We had SUCH a fabulous time!!! We literally commented every single day how we lucked out by accidentally hitting the "jackpot" of the most rugged, gorgeous countryside either of us has ever seen, and the cabin was perfect ... upscale, beautiful, remote (but accessible), comfortable, and in the most breathtaking area possible. The staff was excellent too. We felt SO fortunate! We did many day hikes, climbed the mountains/rocks, went fishing, got excellent coffee, and enjoyed being unplugged for the week! I literally cried upon checkout, which is NOT normal for me! Bravo, please never change anything. A gem in the wilderness. We hope to return someday. Thank you!

Quiet, beautiful scenery

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The cabin was neat, tidy and the deck facing the river was very nice. Easy walk down to the beach. Beautiful scenery.

I would recommend this cabin for anyone wanting to "get away from the hustle and bustle".
