Why Cindy Carlson chose Riggins

The Carlson family has lived on the river since the 1920's. Gus Carlson moved to this area when he was 14 and started sheep herding. In 1929 Gus bought his first piece of property and began sheep ranching on the Salmon River. The ranch is still in operation today. The cabin is located on the family ranch and named in honor of Great Grandpa Gus. We wanted to share our love for this place we call home with people who appreciate its beauty as much as we do.

What makes this cabin unique

The Main Salmon River was nicknamed “The River of No Return” back in the early days when boats could navigate down the river, but could not get back up through the fast water and numerous rapids. The romantic name lives on today, even though jet boats can navigate upstream. In contrast to the Grand Canyon, the Salmon River Canyon is not noted for sheer walls and towering heights, but instead for the variety of landscapes visible from the river; wooded ridges rising to the sky, huge eroded monuments, bluffs, picturesque rock towers, and solitary crags.

wonderful cabin dropped into paradise

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have enjoyed it more. The cabin itself is comfy, well equipped, and our hosts were responsive when we had a minor request (propane tank needed a refill--and a full one was available in a couple of hours). But the standout is the peerless setting: it's absolutely beautiful, and very private.

A beautiful place to get away form the world!!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was provided to make our stay enjoyable! The cabin was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. Cindy was very helpful and accommodating. The cabin feels like you were at the end of the world. A perfect place to relax and get away. We enjoyed catching small mouth bass in the river right on the private beach. The local tackle shop was very helpful to determine how to catch them. We would love to come back again!!

Magical place

Beautiful, quiet spot on the river, lovely, well equipped home, and helpful hosts. Thanks for sharing your truly stunning piece of Idaho. The views while having coffee on the beach and hiking at nearby Heaven's Gate are two we hope never to forget!

Great little cabin with amazing beach

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was so new and clean, and the beach was lovely. The river rushing by with friendly rafters was the highlight for us. The cabin is small but the layout is great and we had everything we needed. I'd love to go back when our kids are a little bigger.

Perfect Anniversary Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't have asked for a better weekend away with my wife for our anniversary. The cabin is extremely clean and cozy. The sandy beach is just steps away from the deck, and the river was extremely refreshing during the 95 degree days (the fishing wasn't too bad either). It had everything we needed to cook our own meals as well as a fire pit for some relaxing fire time on the beach during the evenings. It was definitely worth the long drive and we hope to be back soon! Thank you for all of your help Cindy!

Beautiful, tranquil beachfront house on the Salmon river!

  • 5 of 5

Tranquil, peaceful setting and a beautiful, well-appointed house. It's just about 8 miles outside of Riggins, ID (very small town) on the Salmon River. I little out there, but absolutely beautiful. The grocery store in town had a good selection that we were able to just use it for all our meals and other needs. The staff was easy to work with and very nice. My son left his stuffed animal there and they said they ship it back to us; which you probably know is very important. :)

This is a small house with a lovely view of the river and big beach right out front. It has a great deck out front, so you can sit and enjoy the river with a cup of coffee in the morning. We spent a lot of time just playing and hanging out on the river.

It doesn't have wifi or cell service, which was a little tough, but it was good for us to get away and enjoy the river and each other. Played games and watched movies. Took a drive to the Hells Gate Observatory and met some very friendly horses along the way (a trip favorite). The couple at the top were super nice and a wealth of knowledge. This drive takes a while and you can't see the Snake River from here; which was a bit of a surprise, but enjoyable none the less. Also, drove to Mccall one day; which is about an hour away; which was a very nice town. Enjoyed the restaurants and lake.

Both the bedroom and loft with bunk beds are upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs. This was fine for us as we don't have any issues with stairs. The beds and bedding were great. They also had a supply of beach towels for our use; which was nice.

Just be careful of snakes in the rocky area on the beach. The first day my son came up on one while he was jumping around and gave it quite a surprise. Apparently, it coiled up and sprang at him, so I guess we're lucky in the end.

All in all, a REALLY nice place in a quiet setting. I would definitely recommend it.
