Why Cindy Carlson chose Riggins
The Carlson family has lived on the river since the 1920's. Gus Carlson moved to this area when he was 14 and started sheep herding. In 1929 Gus bought his first piece of property and began sheep ranching on the Salmon River. The ranch is still in operation today. The cabin is located on the family ranch and named in honor of Great Grandpa Gus. We wanted to share our love for this place we call home with people who appreciate its beauty as much as we do.
What makes this Cabin unique
The Main Salmon River was nicknamed “The River of No Return” back in the early days when boats could navigate down the river, but could not get back up through the fast water and numerous rapids. The romantic name lives on today, even though jet boats can navigate upstream. In contrast to the Grand Canyon, the Salmon River Canyon is not noted for sheer walls and towering heights, but instead for the variety of landscapes visible from the river; wooded ridges rising to the sky, huge eroded monuments, bluffs, picturesque rock towers, and solitary crags.

Best 40th Birthday Location Ever!
The Gus Creek Cabin was the perfect place for us to stay for my husband's 40th birthday. We had a blast and were perfectly accommodated in every way. The Carlson's were so great to work with, and the cabin was amazing! So beautiful, clean, and fully stocked. The property was perfect for the party and we had tons of room. We even parked our boats on the beach. We will be back again for sure!
Thank you! Glad you had a great time!
Great vacation cabin!
Great hosts, very clean and modern amenities. Great escape or base camp for adventures.
Lovely cabin, beautiful setting
This cabin was a wonderful place to stay! The setting, right on the Salmon River, is beautiful. We had the cabin windows open most the time so we could hear the sound of the river rushing by. The cabin itself is clean and very nice amenities. We will definitely stay there again.
Private getaway with easy access to wildlife viewing and hiking trails
Lovely two story cabin with nearly perfect layout! Extra wide deck on two sides, allowing for space to have bbq on deck and, table and chairs for visiting and viewing great outdoors. Overlooks river. Private beach. One large bathroom on main floor, includes shower/tub for use by folks of all ages. All sleeping quarters upstairs. No need to climb a ladder to get to second floor-wide gradual stairs for easy access. Lots of windows, all with views. Nothing “rustic” about kitchen set-up! Includes full oven, range, microwave, full-size fridge, and dishwasher. Included in cabin: bed and bath linens; bakeware and cookware; all items to make meals and clean up after. Even stocked with coffee and some spices, too. Homeowner was quick to respond to questions and requests. Hesitated to publish this review because we would like to keep the cabin and it’s ideal location fairly secret!
wonderful cabin dropped into paradise
We couldn't have enjoyed it more. The cabin itself is comfy, well equipped, and our hosts were responsive when we had a minor request (propane tank needed a refill--and a full one was available in a couple of hours). But the standout is the peerless setting: it's absolutely beautiful, and very private.
A beautiful place to get away form the world!!
Everything was provided to make our stay enjoyable! The cabin was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. Cindy was very helpful and accommodating. The cabin feels like you were at the end of the world. A perfect place to relax and get away. We enjoyed catching small mouth bass in the river right on the private beach. The local tackle shop was very helpful to determine how to catch them. We would love to come back again!!
