In 2002, I left Canada to travel the world as a documentary photographer. In 2008, I met a Portlander, and the love of my life while living in Abu Dhabi. In 2013, she convinced me to move to her home (this home) in Portland, Oregon. It was an amazing decision. I can't seem to get enough of the innovative food scene, creative culture, and natural beauty of Oregon.
It is a beautiful, quintessential Portland craftsman with all of the original character. The home is beautifully and thoughtfully furnished, because it is our home, is never thought of as "just a rental".
We recently renovated the bathroom in the downstairs master. Obviously I am biased, but I love everything about the bathroom- the shower, the dark gray unglazed porcelain hex floor tiles contrasting with white subway wall tiles, and of course the European industrial sink with Rejuvenation faucet. I had a lot of fun designing it, and I think it shows.
The bathroom isn't the only highlight, and not even necessarily the best highlight. It is just the newest highlight. The outdoor space is also awesome. The backyard space is great for relaxing. The front porch is great for people watching. There are 2 pear trees, strawberries, and plenty of herbs to enjoy all summer long.
The location is certainly top of the list for highlights though, as it is just off of Hawthorne making it both quiet and convenient.
The home is perfect for business travel or for those relocating to Portland.
You don't have to wait in line at ¿Por Que No? anymore. You can just call, pick it up, and it is on your front porch. Or you can wait. Your choice.
There is truly no better location if you want to experience all the best that SE Portland has to offer.
The wood-burning fireplace is amazing on a cold, winter's day.
In the home, you will find carefully selected furnishings and decor collected from our life and travels.
A colleague and I were in Portland for three months working very long days. We found Jodi's place to be very comfortable, well-stocked, nicely furnished and in a truly excellent location. The fact that there is a bedroom/bathroom both upstairs and downstairs allowed us each enough space and privacy to truly enjoy ourselves. We were happy to come home each day and cook a great meal, or walk around the corner and get a great meal. Jodi is super attentive to any needs you might have and a lovely person. We would stay again in a heartbeat and everyone that came to the house was jealous of how nice we had it! I highly recommend this for anyone who is either in Porltand for work or for pleasure - either way this rental will be a huge asset to your experience of the city.
The house is in a great location, close to shops, easy access to downtown and on a quiet street. The house was clean, uncluttered and well equipped with anything i needed. I felt the owner must have followed me around my own kitchen because as I went for something, it was right where I would have put it myself.
Thank you for sharing your home.
Jodi,
The 6-day stay at VRBO (638989) was not our typical experience...platform bed has not been a normal choice for primary sleeping due to height/lack of support on frame, chandelier had 1 working light (replacement bulbs did not help), use of portable heater tripped circuit breaker, water temperature in upstairs shower is too hot, basement steps with uneven raise & no safety railing, charcoal dumped over back porch, dangling upper eavestrough on front side of house.
The reviews (27) you have listed are for two separate VRBO units, 638989 (Hawthorne) & 896045 (SE Division), oldest date 11/14.
There are two separate issues: safety/maintenance and information/transparency.
Please make the necessary changes and adjust our rental monies accordingly.
This is not our first rental and it won't be our last. Many people have a vested interest in making this lodging system work: tourists/lodgers, property owners, VRBO, & the city of Portland.
Regards,
Diane
Our group of 4 adults stayed in this house for 4 nights and found it very pleasant. Jodi was very accommodating and helpful when anything was needed. House is spacious and comfortable, with an interesting floorplan and lots of character. We enjoyed it very much.
My wife and I and 2 of our friends had the pleasure of staying at Jodi's house for a long weekend. The house was comfortable for all of us and a great home base for exploring Sunnyside and Richmond. We were able to get a great feel for the neighborhood and enjoyed walking to all the local shops and restaurants. We would definitely stay there again.
We enjoyed our stay at the house. We had lived in the Portland area in the 90's, but were not at all familiar with this neighborhood. We loved having restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance, and it was an easy commute to other areas of the city. The house was well updated and well stocked, and we appreciated the addition of air conditioners upstairs and down, since the weather was warm. Jodi was prompt in all communications. The book she provided with restaurant recommendations and information about the neighborhood was a nice added touch!
The bed in the master bedroom is very low, but was comfortable and we slept well. The only suggestion we have for making the house nicer would be more comfortable seating in the living areas. The couch is very deep (more throw pillows would help) and the dining chairs are not comfortable. But we spent little time in the house as we were out and about, and for the price it was a good value.
This is the perfect neighborhood if you are looking to experience Portland's best shops and restaurants.
