Two-Bedroom Downtown Christiansted Apt (can sleep up to six)

This 17th century property is located in the heart of downtown Christiansted. The property comprises of two buildings. A main commercial/residential structure that faces King St and a smaller building both characteristic of the Danish West Indian style. This two-bedroom apartment is the upstairs of the larger building and faces the main street coming into town. It features a full kitchen, bathroom and living room/dining area. Each bedroom has a queen-size bed plenty of storage. The larger bedroom has large historic windows. The smaller bedroom has a walk-in closet. This unit has super high ceilings and ceiling fans. There is access to a balcony as well. Full of style and comfort this is a great vacation rental option for friends and family who want to immerse themselves in small-island town life.

We are one block away from the best bakery in town where locals line up every morning to get Crucian style 'titi bread' 'butter bread', 'bush tea' and other breakfast favorites. In a two to three block radius are some of the best local food spots serving up dishes like roti, stewed oxtail, curry goat, salt fish and ducanna, kallaloo and other Crucian/Caribbean delicacies. We are also five minutes away from fine dining restaurants, historic churches and cemeteries, exquisite handmade jewelry shops, museums, nightlife, cool bars and restaurants on the boardwalk, great duty-free shopping, the seaplane (in case you want to hop over to/or are hopping over from St. Thomas) and even the beach! On the boardwalk you can organize sailing, jet skiing, fishing, and head over to Buck Island or the Cay for swimming and snorkeling. And because of the great town location you are just a taxi ride away from everything else that St. Croix has to offer. If you choose to rent a car there are several agencies in walking distance.

About LAVAUGHN BELLE

My husband is a musician and I am a visual artist. Although my family is originally from Barbados & Trinidad & Tobago I grew up in the Virgin Islands (both St. Thomas & St. Croix). I left to study at Columbia University in NY and then later at the Institute Superior de Arte in Havana, Cuba where I met my future husband who at the time was studying to be an opera singer. We met my third day in Havana and have been inseparable ever since. I currently teach at the University of the Virgin Islands, work as a professional artist and manage our real estate investments. My husband works in developing our new business (a Latin Dance Studio & Nightclub slated to open Sept. 2013) and has his own salsa band and Latin jazz trio. Since leaving Cuba in 2005, we have traveled many places in the world, but both agree that St. Croix is something special. That's why we have chosen to build our lives and raise a family here.

We were attracted to this property because we were looking for our own space to teach our salsa classes. We saw it on a Friday afternoon and had an offer in on Monday morning. We love the location and the historical architectural details. We did 80% of the work ourselves, but in true Caribbean form many friends have helped us along the way. This has been a project of a lifetime and a dream come true for both of us. But most of all we are happy to bring more joy and beauty into our community and share it with locals and visitors alike.

What makes this apartment unique

There are many beautiful hotels, villas and luxury homes on St. Croix that sell a particular vision of an island paradise. What this property offers is authentic urban island living. You will get a chance to immerse yourself in our beautiful Crucian culture without compromising comfort or style. If you want to stretch your vacation dollars to be able to experience the culture and all St. Croix has to offer, this is the rental for you.

Our host La Vaughn was friendly and helpful. Our flight was delayed so we arrived close to midnight yet she meet us with a smile, gave us keys and a tour of the apartment, and recommended things to do and places to eat.



The apartment is large, clean, well-appointed, and centrally-located in downtown Christiansted. It's just a 5 minute walk to the boardwalk, bars and restaurants, and 15 minutes to the beach. It's in the city so expect some city noise. The open concept living room/dining area/kitchen is bright and airy. There are pots and pans if you wish to cook. There's a Netflix guest account on the TV. The beds are comfortable. There's no AC, but ceiling fans kept us cool on 80 degree nights. Overall, we had a great stay and would recommend it to friends.

short but sweet

I was only able to stay two nights. La Vauhn met me with her cute little daughter. Sunday night is difficult for finding supper, but we went to a "zippy pick". I loved staying on the street side so I could get the feel of the area. Everything is very walkable from the apartment. I definitely came away relaxed. Thank you!!

From the Airport:

Henry Rohlsen Airport is the airport on St. Croix. From our place it's about a 15-20 min drive.

From the Seaplane:

Other than the airport there is a seaplane that lands just west of the boardwalk. It's about 3-4 blocks from our place.

Closest Beach:

The closest beach is 5 blocks away at what locals call 'Hotel on the Cay'. It is actually named Protestant Cay and there are accommodations there, a restaurant, bathrooms, beach chairs, jet skis, etc..To get there you simply walk down to the boardwalk and a small ferry boat shuttles people back and forth all day for $5. From door to the beach we estimate 15 min.

Cars & Parking:

Although a car is not needed to enjoy the town, one is recommended to fully explore the island. If you choose to rent a car there are several agencies in walking distance. Although we do not have off-street parking, the entrance is located on a side street with plenty of parking available.
