We're in central Iowa - very good location for exploring all sorts of things around the state. We're also close to several water trails for kayaking or rafting.

Loved the fields with the cattle, the chickens, the peacefulness and the nice home. We had a great time.

Beautiful and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at the cottage over Easter weekend and had a wonderful time. Julie's cottage has all that you need plus some. The farm was a wonderful place away from city. We enjoyed the fresh farm eggs for breakfast and Julie would do anything to make our stay the best. Thank you Julie. We will be back.

Great little place in the country

  • 4 of 5

While not real fancy our stay was very comfortable. We enjoyed the rural setting, cows in the nearby pastures, chickens roaming the barnyard. We had a small problem when we arrived but Julie took care of it right away and everything was fine. Even though we were busy checking out some of the nearby attractions and gone most of the day it was a peaceful place to return to.

Owner's Response: I'm glad you all were very comfortable! I get a lot of comments on just how comfortable the beds are and how cozy the house is.... I hope you all enjoyed the fresh fruit and cinnamon rolls and were also able to find the activities guides I left for you. Thanks for staying with us.

There's so much to do in the area but the house is so nice we also just enjoyed staying in, having a bonfire and watching the animals. We'll definitely be back!

A Nightmare - The review we never wanted to write

  • 1 of 5

We are very sad to leave this review. But, we feel that we need to, so that we can warn others. When we arrived the basement smelled moldy. We could barely see out the dirty windows, and the sills were fulls of dead flies. The stove was dangerous with all the burners igniting when we used just one. The mattress was good but the sheets were very uncomfortable (100% polyester). After two (out of three) nights, we were so tired and uncomfortable we just wanted to go home. I went over my message to Julie four times to be sure it was written kindly. She offered different sheets and to clean the basement; even offered us a different house. Very generous. We hoped it would be better. When we arrived, my husband asked me to chose a bedroom. The house is very near the interstate so we chose the room farthest from the noise. Both beds appeared to have dirty sheets, so we sent Julie a message asking for a refund. When I was waiting in our van for her reply, she drove up, marched over angrily and demanded we show her the beds. My husband had tried to clean off one of them; the other still had several hairs under the pillows. Julie yelled at us, accusing us of trying to get money out of them and making personal accusations that were very offensive. We were shocked. She yelled at us to get out. Most bags were still packed, but I needed to pack our food. She followed me into the kitchen and ran around banging chairs against the table. When I started to cry, she apologized for being harsh but continued to say terrible things to my husband. Her husband came and was even angrier, cussing out my husband. I thoroughly cleaned the kitchen and took our small amount of garbage from lunch. They ran around to see if we had stolen anything and threatened to call the police (crazy!!). We kept our voices calm and packed up rapidly, fearing that they would turn violent. We were so thankful to get out of there. An hour later she texted me and accused me of going back to plant hairs in the bed. Honestly! We have received no refund, and not even the deposit was returned (which she promised to do, according to the contract, pending inspection - and we had left the other house neat, even leaving a plant as a thank you gift.) It had been a long time since we had been able to get away as a couple, so it was heartbreaking. It is still very painful to talk about months later. We pray for them and wish them well. But, we certainly won't return or recommend them to anyone else.

Owner's Response: The worst guest experience I've ever had. Most of my reviews are positive and if people have any complaints I promptly address them. But this couple wanted to complain about EVERYTHING and when I graciously upgraded them to the GuestHouse they immediately tried to find something wrong with the place. Apparently they couldn't because they pulled me out of a business meeting with a complaint about a hair on one of the beds. When I came over to see the alleged hair they couldn't show it to me. She literally pointed at clean, fresh sheets and when I said "seriously?" she said her husband must have brushed it off. I had to ask them to leave and they threatened to leave me a bad review....at that point, that was the least of my concerns. This couple seemed practiced at extortion and I wish I could warn other rental owners about them.
