Things to do:
The Beach - The beach is still Kill Devil Hills #1 attraction. Like all central Outer Banks towns, kill Devils Hills has its own set of local beach rules and regulations, including no dogs on the beach from Memorial Day to Labor Day, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. In addition, glass and bonfires are not allowed on the beaches, and driving on the beach is only allowed during the off-season months of October through March. Bear in mind, however, that these rules are in place to ensure everyone can enjoy the miles of oceanfront, and there's plenty of fun to be had both on and off the sand. There's no major beach boardwalk in Kill Devil Hills, but a quick hop over the dunes, and visitors can be right on the beach road to refresh with a soda or an ice cream from one of the area's many beachside shops.
Wright Brothers National Memorial - The Wright Brothers Memorial is a tremendously popular attraction for Outer Banks vacationers of all areas, and is open year round, generally from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. depending on the season. Visitors can explore the reconstructed 1903 camp buildings where the Wright Brothers tinkered with their machinery, a visitors' center and original museum with a life-sized replica of the historic first airplane, and the Centennial pavilion which pays homage to achievements in flight since the Wright brothers first flew along the Outer Banks. Operated by the National Park Service, a small fee is required to access the Memorial grounds, but aviation lovers consider it an absolute "Must See" on their travels to the Outer Banks.
Dining and shopping options are in no short supply either, and hungry visitors will find they have their choice between fast food and fine dining, small locally owned shops and national chains, quick bites and four course meals. These shops and restaurants are located throughout the town, either along the beach road in decades-old buildings or historic original coast guard stations, or on the bypass in beachy shopping centers and modern plazas. With many amenities within walking distance, Kill Devil Hills vacationers will find they don't have to travel too far to enjoy the highlights of the Outer Banks; shopping and dining scene.
We are two Christian families that bought this property on Fall of 2014. Pat & Lynette Brabble & Sandy & Heather Outlaw. This is the only beach property we own.
Pat Brabble Jr purchased this cottage in 2014
We have been looking at houses in the OBX area for some time now. We sold the last house we had at the beach and was ready for another. We loved the location and potential this house has. Cottage is in middle of OBX and close to everything.
Lots of shops and eating places close to cottage, you can walk to most of them. Their is a nature reserve at sound end of our road. Great place to enjoy nature.
We really enjoyed our stay. The place has a homey feel that made us fantasize about having our own get-away one day. The kitchen was well stocked. We appreciated having a king size bed, as that is what we're used to at home. It was a bit soft for me, but agreed with my husband. That's a personal factor, doesn't affect my rating. The appliances were all new and in top condition, too. Thanks for providing such a pleasant, affordable beach rental!
This cottage is indeed warm and cozy. It's very clean and neat, in a quiet neighborhood. And Kill Devil Hills is in a good central spot of OBX. At the end of each day when we returned from our adventures, it was like coming home. This cottage definitely added to our great vacation. We will be back!
This cottage has everything that we needed. It was clean and cool inside when we arrived. Location was great. Had a question about the TV remote, and they were only a phone call away. The king size bed was so comfortable, we slept like babies every night. We ride bicycles, so we only went to the beach one day. There is plenty of bike, and walking trails throughout OBX. Some of the best food that we enjoyed was , Jimmy's Seafood, Fish bones Sunset Grill in Duck, and closer to the cottage, American Pie, and the Plaza Aztec Mexican restaurant. When we return to OBX we definitely will be staying here again. Until next time....
My kids and I stayed here over the fourth of July week. We enjoyed walking down to the beach, from the house. The nice local restaurants near by. The home was clean, nice and had everything you could need for a fun week away. Pat was always on top of any emails and questions I had before arriving. Had a great time and we will defiantly try and get this home again on another one of our trips to OBX.
Thank you for allowing us to make some amazing memories in and near your home!
The cottage was perfect for us. It was cozy, clean and comfortable.
My husband and I were looking for a place to stay for my niece's wedding at milepost 9.
The living room has recliners that you just sink into for a relaxing end to a day at the beach.
The beds were also comfortable. The owner quickly responded to questions.
She even mailed me back my treasured shoulder wrap that I left in the freezer.
We saved a lot of money just by cleaning up after ourselves.
We couldn't figure out how to make the electric fireplace work. I'm sure if you ask the owner, she will tell you; we didn't care that much.
There was some confusion about whether linens were there or not; there are sheets, and kitchen towels, but no bath towels.
It appears that many home rentals in the area require you to bring sheets and towels; people must steal them or something.
Easy, if you are driving. When you fly in... you pretty much need a whole suitcase, just for a few bath and beach towels.
We thought about buying them there and leaving them. Luckily we fly Southwest and get 2 bags each free.
It is located in the middle of everything. We asked a local on the plane about good places to eat and he knew what he was talking about.
We highly recommend Kelly's fine dining (a few blocks away) for steak and seafood. Billy's off Covington if you plan to cook fresh seafood.
We also enjoyed the Pier for afternoon cocktails and a walk out to see the ocean. Another highlight was driving up to Duck. We found a
cute outdoor shopping center and little tavern overlooking the ocean called the Blue Point Cafe for lunch.
Anyway, it was our first time in the OBX, we had a great time and plan to come back. Would definitely book this cottage again.
