WELCOME TO OUR TORREY VACATION HOME
Our home is new and modern with an open layout your family and guests will love. Professionally decorated, each room is simple yet of high quality. Large windows and sliding glass doors allow you to experience every sunrise, sunset, and magnificent scenery without ever stepping outside. When you do step out, you step onto two large patios designed for your comfort, a place to relax, read or to entertain. As you dine, the balmy breezes and red rock vistas just add to your enjoyment.
For your privacy, the home has bedrooms and bathrooms on opposite ends. One bathroom features a large, rain head shower and the other a Jacuzzi tub. Each bedroom opens onto a private patio. The beds, mattresses and linens are of high quality for a good night’s sleep. For your convenience, we have a new stacking washer and dryer, if needed.
If cooking is your passion, look no further. Our vacation home kitchen is complete. All new Stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops and island. You’ll find all of the cooking tools you need from good, sharp knifes to quality pots and pans. The cupboards are filled with dishes, utensils and glasses, mixing bowls and the main staples – flour, sugar, coffee, spices, plus more. Included are top of the line coffee and tea maker, waffle iron, ice cream /sorbet maker, popcorn popper, pancake griddle, blender, mixer, etc. You’ll love preparing your meals as you look out the 8’ window to the creek below and the clouds forming over the Boulder Mountains.
The east patio has a first-class, gas, BBQ with a beautiful wicker table that seats six. There are also two lounge chairs with ottomans for relaxing and watching for wild turkeys, rabbits, deer and elk that frequent the area. We enjoy our morning coffee watching the sun come up from this patio. The west patio and entrance to the house is best for the views of the red rock vistas and sunsets from the two lounge chairs and ottomans. Both patios are covered for year round enjoyment. Off the patio are gravity loungers for star gazing.
We also have all the electronics you’ll need – large screen cable TV, DVD/Blue Ray player, high speed Wi-Fi internet and wireless printer. Relax in front of the fireplace while watching the game or catch up on emails at the desk in the master bedroom.
We are located minutes away from beautiful hiking and biking trails, National Forests, Torrey Town and its restaurants, bars and shopping, and the gateway to Capitol Reef National Park. Other Utah destinations like Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, Bryce Canyon National Park, Zion National Park, Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and Lake Powell, are within hours drive making our home a perfect base camp.

We purchased our 1st piece of property here in Torrey, Utah in 1981 with the idea of eventually retiring here. Now that we have sold our business we decided to build this vacation home which enables us enjoy this area year round. We love the hiking, fishing, exploring, picnics in the park and the patio parties our family and friends enjoy. Torrey has always been a special place to rest and renew ourselves, a place of discovery.
Martin & Linda Townsend purchased this house in 2014
We bought this property because of the magnificent red rock views and the creek that runs through the back of our property under the cottonwood trees. We are within 100 yards of national forest land that provides unbelievable hiking and exploring. At 7,000 ft. with mountains above us and desert below, there is always a soft breeze that makes the temperature here very comfortable, especially for sleeping. Star watching at night is incredible, when was the last time you saw the Milky Way?
A benefit of our home is the proximity to the town, restaurants, bars and Capital Reef National Park. Other things of benefit is it’s one level, heating and air conditioned, multiple large widows to bring the outside in, well stocked kitchen for those of us who love to cook and large patios to entertain on.
Linda and Martini were great Hosts. There house was just as described. We were two couples and loved the arrangement. Two bedrooms and two baths of each end of the house, with shared space in between. The porches were wonderful for looking at the night sky.
We have never stayed in a place that had so much for the guests, soda, beer, pancake and syrup. Spices and a full pantry!
Everyone who does VRBO could learn from them!
Five stars seems an inadequate rating for this outstanding home base for exploring Capitol Reef National Park and a portion of the Grand Staircase/Escalante National Monument.
This home is the most thoroughly equipped and meticulously furnished house out of the many VRBO rentals that we have so far enjoyed in Canada and the United States. The house is deceptively simple on the outside; however, once you step inside and use it, you discover that it is immaculately outfitted with modern, easy-to-use appliances, toiletries, a well-stocked pantry and even an assortment of cold drinks in the fridge.
Linda and Martin have given a great deal of thought to anticipating their guests' every need. We especially appreciated the fact that Martin patiently awaited our arrival in the dark desert night and then showed us about the house. We also appreciated the fact that Linda telephoned us during the week to notify us that the connecting road into Torrey might be blocked by repairs. (It was, but we were given good advice as to how we could detour around the construction.) Martin and Linda were responsive and helpful without in any way being intrusive.
We arrived in the dark and were therefore astounded the next morning when we discovered the fabulous desert and mountain views from every window.
Based on our personal experiences during 7 days, we highly recommend the scenic drive, Capitol Dome, Goosenecks Overlook and Hickman's Natural Bridge hikes, the petroglyphys and the video "Watermark" in the visitors' centre in Capitol Reef National Park. We also recommend driving - and cycling - the Burr Trail Road between the Notrom-Bullfrog Scenic Backway Road Junction and the village of Boulder. Finally, we recommend the dining available at the Capitol Reef Inn & Cafe and the Rim Rock Inn Restaurant at Torrey. (Cafe Diablo was not yet open.)
We also ate at the famous Hell's Back Grill in Boulder, but, in our view, it was over-priced and did not live up to the hype. What is worthwhile, however, is the excellent book available in the home library, A Measure of Grace, about the establishment and growth of this restaurant in the Boulder community. This is more than a "cookbook"; it is a collection of remarkable portraits of significant people and the respectful relationship that the restaurant owners achieved with the local Mormon community.
The crux of any assessment of a VRBO rental is the question: Would we choose to return for another stay? You bet!
Just the best! We have stayed in many vacation rentals, but this is the best. Not the fanciest, just the best. The home and furnishings are high quality; the kitchen is equipped as well as your home (chef knives that are sharp); and the Townsend's hospitality wonderful. They stocked the fridge with water, beer, cream, etc and have supplies like spices, cooking oil, sugar, coffee on hand for you. Would love to come back again next year. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
Every item you may need is taken care of. We have stayed at many VRBO's. Martin & Linda's house is better than a five star hotel in San Francisco. My husband and I planned to wake up early and drive to Escalante for our first morning hike. We had trouble leaving .... So relaxing had to have that second cup of coffee or was it our third? The only items we purchased prior to our arrival were some fresh vegetables, fruit, eggs, and some meat. The entire house is perfect. All previous reviews are correct so I will not repeat.
Have you ever had 'thick terry bathrobes' available at a VRBO? Say no more, this is the place!
Thank you. We will always remember your hospitality.

We celebrated our 23rd anniversary here with our best friends.❤️ The view this place has is incredible from the kitchen, bathrooms and the deck. Everything you could need or didn't realize you needed are here for you to use.
The owners have done such a great job on this renter all the way to the nicest toilet paper! Lol
They even have provided to go cups for coffee and beer 🍻when we arrived.
This is a top notch place, thank you for sharing your beautiful home,
The empty nesters
Linda and Martin's home is without peer: from the outside it is a simple, modest structure sited on an open lot overlooking the Sand Creek wash, with views of mountains front and back. Inside it is completely equipped, furnished and stocked with everything one would expect to find at home, and has a warm, contemporary aesthetic. Its location in tranquil Torrey is perfect, and embodies all of the aspects we sought in coming to SE Utah--quietude, views, silent nights on the deck viewing the Milky Way and lightning storms on the horizon, clear air. If you wish for solitude, as did we, you will find it here, but we also were delighted to meet many locals, all of whom were so pleasant, helpful, and social. Upon our arrival Martin greeted us as we unloaded our car and took us on a tour of the house and its operation. We had come for five nights to visit Capitol Reef NP and environs but experienced so much more. On Day One the Tour of Utah Stage 2 ended in town, so the product fair and finish line structures transformed the normally quiet town into a vibrant hub with seemingly all residents turning out for the show. On Day Two typically calm Sand Creek erupted in a flash flood that threatened to wash out the bridge connecting us to the Townsend house, necessitating us to wait for 30 min. or so at creekside watching the water and listening to boulders being pushed downstream as we met and talked with the many area residents who'd come to view the spectacle. (No worries--if the bridge had washed out there is another road from Rim Rock that allows a way around.) Alas, the two day spike of activity immediately gave way to Day Three and beyond of Torrey's more characteristic tranquility, and we carried on with exploring the area's fantastic geography and eating too many pies from the Gifford House. Summing up: Torrey is a perfect location to base oneself for visits to CRNP, the stylish Townsend house is going to be in contention as the best you've ever had, its setting is unparalleled, and the people of Torrey are just super. And to top it all off--Martin is as kind a host as one could wish. Many thanks to Linda and Martin for a wonderful stay!
