Wonderful cottage!

  • 5 of 5

Loved this cute cottage! Not far at all from the AT (Appalachian Trail). Lots of outdoors shops around town. Great coffee/breakfast/cafe down the road you can walk to. Had everything we needed if we forgot toiletries which we didn’t, but nice to know there were items there if needed. Didn’t interact with owners in person, but we called on the last day to ask about late checkout, & it was possible (when available). Perfect getaway for the weekend to relax and unwind. Board games to play and books to read. We would definitely come back! Best place we have stayed at in a long time & I think the best part is that it felt like home.

Cold rainy days

  • 5 of 5

The Cottage was really great. We loved the gas fireplace. The weather did not cooperate so we were unable to enjoy the front porch or the outdoor fire pit. But that all looked very inviting. We thought everything was exactly as we were told it would be. Right down the the 5 minute walk to coffee. The views were amazing and I loved how the house was tucked away up on the hilltop. We made the most of our stay hiking for miles. Our last day the sun came out so we got to ride our bikes. I especially liked it that we didn't have to start the laundry!

Close to town but private

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this cottage during an unusually cold period. Since the lower bathroom heater didn't work, this was more a problem for my wife and daughters rather than for me.

We have mostly positive things to say, however. The cottage was just the right size for 4 people although it can easily accommodate 6. It is well appointed, and the outside fire ring is one of the best features.

When we weren't hiking on the Virginia Creeper Trail or Appalachian Trail, we were eating at Mojo's just down the road or playing games, reading, drawing and doing puzzles indoors.

Finally, the owner Tim Dyess is quite helpful and friendly, which is a big plus if you need help with something. One note for Tim is to tell his housekeeping staff to sweep and dust the floors better. We found dog hairs all over our closet floor (and on our soft luggage) and the kitchen floor needed better sweeping.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for visiting and for your comments. We are always looking for ways to improve the property for our vacationers. We found the vent to the downstairs bathroom closed - not a good thing in this frigid weather. We will pay closer attention to the floors, too. Thanks so much.

Wonderfully quaint cottage

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our Thanksgiving stay at Orchard Hill cottage. Great location - five minutes from hiking and biking! Loved the patio fire pit. Reminded me of my grandma’s house with its old farmhouse feel, nice and quaint. We loved being able to have our dog Bailey with us, although she wasn’t too keen on the bare floors - she would have liked a couple of area rugs. Still, we love Damascus and look forward to returning next spring!
