Our hosts, Helen and Michael, were great. Fresh fruit greeted us. The kitchen was well appointed: we lacked for nothing. Michael gave us two loaves of his artisan bread while we were there for 8 days: it was so good, we ate over half this big loaf the first night. This was a secure place with a lovely view, just a short drive to downtown Hawi and in a most bucolic setting (well, what part of the island up north is not!).
Hawi is a cool little town with good places to eat and very reasonable places to shop for gifts. Things here are far more reasonable than in Kona.
Our stay in Hawi was memorable and most enjoyable. If we get back to Hawi, we will look to stay again with Mike and Helen.

Charming cottage; great hosts
The Hawi Cottage is located a short drive up the road from the center of Hawi Town. It is a charming, spacious house with ample space for two and just about every amenity one could ask for. The kitchen is well stocked, the queen size bed is very comfortable, the bathroom is spacious with recently updated fixtures and the living area also has comfortable, relaxed seating. We appreciated having a washer and dryer at the house, since we were there for two weeks. We also appreciated the towel warming rack in the bathroom. Some other amenities include a handy cooler, beach towels and two beach chairs, which are the short, folding, reclining type and easy to carry.
Off the living room there is a sweet screened lanai with glass-topped table and four cane chairs, where we ate breakfast every morning (and sometimes dinner) looking out across the well-kept yard to views of Maui and the ocean.
When we first arrived, we found the house spotless inside with fresh fruit in a bowl on the kitchen counter and a vase of tropical flowers from the garden on the table on the lanai. It was all a very welcome sight.
Your hosts, Helen and Mike, are wonderful people whose home is also on the property. They are dedicated to making your stay a pleasant one, yet you will enjoy complete privacy. Mike bakes the most delicious artisan breads, which he is happy to share if you are interested, and Helen gave us fresh eggs from their four hens ("the girls"), who have free run of the yard and do a great job of keeping the insect population at bay. Also on hand to greet you on occasion is their sweet Swiss Mountain Dog, Mirrhi. She has a big bark, but she is a very gentle, friendly dog.
It was a very peaceful spot full of Aloha and one we will most definitely return to when next we revisit the Big Island.
All aspects of the property were correctly described. The location of the property gave us easy access to all our points of interest. Clean, well-equipped apartment and the fruit trees were wonderful.
Perfect quiet and relaxing stay!
Everything at this farm cottage was lovely. We are glad we decided to try out staying in the Hawi area, it was a nice area to explore and the property was lovely. Spacious but cozy, and appointed with everything we could need. Loved the fresh fruit provided and enjoyed some fresh tangelos from the tree! We had some trouble finding the place at first based on the step by step directions from the manager, but just used the address and GPS instead which made it a breeze.
Glad we got to meet the friendly resident dog he was great!
Lovely place with unexpected extras
We stayed here a week to enjoy the north and west of the island, after a previous week at Hilo. A very nice bright, airy apartment with a lovely view of the distant ocean from the screen porch/dining room. Our Australian-born hosts surprised us with home-baked bread and eggs from the resident chickens, and the option of picking oranges and lemons from their trees. We felt we were vacationing with old friends. I would certainly return here if we should need a future break from the North American winter.
Lovely Home Away from Home
The property was exactly as was advertised. Remote, quiet and everything guests need to enjoy their stay on the Big Island. Mike and Helen were gracious hosts who gifted us with their fruit and homemade bread, and shared their pets, "the girls" and lovely dog Mirrhi. Well stocked kitchen for cooking and washer and dryer. The property is not in the tourist area so it felt very relaxing after a busy day sightseeing the Big Island. Olivia, the property manager was also very helpful. We were able to communicate with her when we had a minor problem. Thank You Mike, Helen and Olivia.
Hike down to Pololu Valley to a black sand beach or just enjoy the outstanding views from the top of the Valley. Hike to King Kamehameha's birth place. The local Kamehameha park has a pool, tennis court, basketball court, a gym and a small golf course.
