                        Not all we expected...

                        For years we have dined at the excellent restaurant at the Highlands Inn. We finally had the opportunity to spend a week. Our expectations were high! The property is magnificent and the views are unparalleled. We were fortunate to have a room at the east end of the property, set back from the road noise. Sadly, the accommodations were very disappointing. Our room, (billed to sleep 4), was small. The king sized bed was very uncomfortable. There was no chair in the bedroom. Furnishings were adequate and appliances were outdated. I overheard many people complain about the steep terrain, so be prepared to bring your tennis shoes.

                        The location is excellent; with easy access to Monterrey, Pacific Grove and Carmel Valley. If you tire of the gray drizzle and cool temperatures, head ten miles inland and enjoy the warm sun in Carmel Valley. Check out the Talbot Tasting Room. Perhaps our greatest disappointment was the lack of friendly service. We own property at a competitor and it is evident that their customer service training is far superior to Hyatt. While we had a wonderful vacation, we would not return to the Highlands Inn.
