What makes this lodge unique

Unlike other properties that clear the underbrush, we keep patches of untouched greenery between the cabins and surrounding the manicured lawn so guests have better chances of seeing wildlife roaming freely, and for these animals to have shelter if they get scared.

Beautiful, remote location

  • 5 of 5

This is a very special and beautiful place to stay. Our favorite things about it:

1) The location is stunning - it is literally in the middle of the jungle so you see birds, wildlife, stunning views of nature - it is an escape from reality. There are even a few hiking trails right from the cabins.

2) The rooms are clean and comfortable and beautifully decorated. There were a few times we didn't have hot water (it is solar powered) but it was not a big deal.

3) Robert and Ro are wonderful and welcoming hosts. And Ro is an amazing cook!

A few things for travelers to know before going:

1) YOU NEED 4-WHEEL DRIVE! This is not optional. We really wish we had known this. The remote location is one of the special things about this place, but that means it is several miles down a rough, hilly, muddy road that becomes even more challenging in the rain. We had a tiny car that bottomed out several times on the bumpy white marl road, and it was a white knuckle ride for me through the hills and mud. We had planned to use the lodge as a base for exploring Mountain Pine Ridge but we did not have confidence that our car could get in and out, so we ended up just hanging out at the lodge for a few days. This would have been fine if we had books, snacks, and drinks, but we were ill-provisioned, especially with two little kids. We had planned to go on a supply run in San Ignacio, but we didn't think our car could make it (though Ro was kind enough to pick up a few needed items in town for us!). We definitely would have liked to get out more to experience more of the region. I would recommend either bringing a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get in and out, or bringing plenty of supplies for your stay!

2) It is the jungle and it is not for everyone. There are bugs. And it rains more than other parts of Belize - but that is why it is so lush and green.

Robert and Ro have created a beautiful little getaway. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a jungle adventure. Thanks for letting us experience it!

Fun Times

  • 5 of 5

My 11 and 13 year old sons and I had the pleasure of staying in the Harpy Eagle. Roeni and Robert were great hosts they really made us feel at home. The accommodations were clean and comfortable and worked out very well for us. The cabins are set apart from one another but near the bush making for a nice sense of privacy and seclusion. The pool was a fun and refreshing way to cool off. Roeni cooked us great meals and helped us with arrangements for tours etc in the area.

Excellent jungle lodge with wonderful proprietors!!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Inn the Bush for 4 nights in the first half of May this year with my parents and wife and brother and sister in law, and it was absolutely wonderful! The setting is gorgeous, with beautiful and newish cabins. They're very nicely appointed and comfortable.

Roeni and Robert were great hosts. They were very friendly and had excellent recommendations about tour operators and things to do around San Ignacio. We loved that it was smaller, so with the 6 of us we had all three cabins to ourselves. We had breakfast and dinner at the lodge, and I can't praise Roeni's cooking enough! Dinner was so delicious each time, we actually requested pork chops a second time after the first. The best I've ever eaten!

It's fairly remote, and about 20-25 minutes from San Ignacio, mostly due to road conditions, but we loved it. It was great to wake up to the jungle birds and nothing else every morning.

I would recommend that if you're heading to San Ignacio and want a jungle lodge, this should be the one to pick! It's amazing!

Awesome Place!

  • 5 of 5

My family and another family stayed here for four nights over Christmas. What an amazing place! Robert and Roeni were fantastic hosts. They made us feel incredibly welcome. Roeni is a terrific cook. We ate all of our breakfasts and dinners here, and each meal was great. The kids even cleaned their plates. The location was ideal for day trips zip lining, cave tubing, and touring the near by Mayan ruins. The grounds are beautiful. I highly recommend Inn the Bush. Just staying here was a high-lite of our trip. We spent the next six nights in Palencia, but we all missed Inn the Bush!

Great hosts, wonderful lodging, beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Inn the Bush. Robert and Roeni are kind and helpful. They put up with our lack of planning and arranged last minute transportation and logistics for us. Their jungle lodge is perfect. And the cabins and pool are great. Roeni cooked breakfasts and dinners for us and they were delicious. There are only a few things I would caution guests about. There is a small creek you need to cross to get to the lodge. It can occasionally flood (as it did when we were there). That left us a bit stranded, but it was a great restful day exploring the surroundings. The wifi is rather weak. Which only mattered because I hadn't really done much planning and thought I would be able to figure out some of our excursions once we arrived. Personally, I wish we had rented a car. It would have been a bit easier to get to and fro. That said, Roeni made sure we had no problems getting where we wanted. They are great hosts! I would definitely go back.
