Secluded, Peaceful Lakefront Chalet Nestled In The Heart Of The Northwoods

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 6 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms 1 Bathroom Sleeps 10

This property is perfect for a romantic getaway or a fun-filled family vacation. A drive down gravel roads will take you to this stunning setting, which overlooks the beautiful and serene Kentuck Lake, where eagles and loons are plentiful.

Kentuck Lake is known for great muskie, walleye, smallmouth bass and crappie fishing and is ideal for water sports. This property has 135 feet of lake frontage, but feels like 500 feet with the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest bordering the property to the north. Kids love the abundance of pan fish that can be caught right off of the pier, as well as the swimming raft and sandy swimming area nearby. There is a large fire pit overlooking the lake with a western view of northwoods sunsets and if you're lucky a view of the northern lights. A beautiful wooded hiking trail between Kentuck Lake and Spectacle Lake is accessible from the doorstep.

The home is a chalet-style, with 2 bedrooms on the first floor (one bedroom with a queen bed, the other with bunk beds {twin over full}), and a loft with a queen bed and bunk beds (twin over full). There is also a sleeper sofa (sleeps 2) in the living room. A large, wrap-around deck overlooks the lake and is the perfect gathering place for families at meal time, with a table that seats 8.

So whether you're relaxing in the adirondack chairs at water's edge, sunbathing on the raft, catching crappies off the pier, toasting marshmallows as the sun sets, or watching the eagles soar over this magnificent lake, you are sure to have an unforgettable stay!

Quiet wilderness lake experience!

  • 4 of 5

With three beautiful autumn days as the backdrop, we thoroughly took advantage of scenic hiking trails, cool evenings with campfires, and some of the most amazing fishing experiences of a lifetime. The bald eagles, loons and merganser ducks nearby were definitely the cherry on top! Cabin interior was super clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. So quiet and peaceful. All instructions were clear and easy to follow on how to find cabin. Thank you for sharing your little piece of paradise!

Excellent, just excellent!!

  • 5 of 5

Just got home and missing it already... everything was really nice! Didn't feel like a "rental". Really felt at home! Everything was clean and ready to use. Warm and open interior. My advice, Read the directions they send before you get up there, reception is not good and my gps took me the wrong way. The lake is beautiful, I think my boat is cleaner now than when it went in the water!!! Home owners were prompt with responses, heck they offered to let me use their lift for my boat! Prior to renting I looked at reviews and had a few concerns... Kris made sure there was plenty of wood as my wife loves fires. Also, I was instructed to drop my trailer halfway up the drive after launching the boat. I am very happy they told me as the driveway looks intimidating. I will say it wasn't that bad, even after a number of rains I didn't even need 4wd to go in and out...

In conclusion, cabin/home is really nice, the lake is awesome, the homeowner responded quickly, and we enjoyed our time. Only negatives, lots of stairs we wanted the cabin on the hillside and we got it, so we didn't mind that much, and don't trust your GPS!!! Use they directions they give you!!!

Thanks guys so very much for letting us stay at your place we loved it!!!

Secluded and peaceful is the perfect description

  • 4 of 5

This was just what my husband and I were looking for. A quiet, peaceful inland lake, close to a national park, and great amenities in the house that met our needs. We were looking to get away from it all--and this delivered!

This is a beautiful, clean, quiet, and spacious cabin

  • 5 of 5

It is difficult to call this place a cabin because cabins generally do not have all the amenities of home. This place has everything you could ask for in a Northwoods cabin and more. A group of 4 of us stayed here in early March to ice fish. It was so nice to have the space to spread out all of our belongings and not be crowded . We could have easily fit a few more comfortably. Everything in the cabin was fairly modern and worked well. The beds were very comfortable and there was sufficient seating.

Booking was such a breeze. The owners were very easy to work with and seem to be very genuine. There were no questions that we needed answers for. Instructions were sent promptly and it was as smooth as could be. Nothing better than getting to a cabin that is already warm!! The cabin is decorated exactly as a northwoods cabin should be. Beautiful Knotty pine and very warm feeling!

Although the boat landing is not easily accessible from the cabin in the winter, (even though it is only a block away), it is only a 17 minute drive away. It was not a big inconvenience, The driveway is a bit steep as are all properties in this area. Not a problem, just need to take it slow. There is a large flat turnaround area halfway up the driveway that fit three trailers easily.

We absolutely loved this place and are looking forward to booking again next year!!

Beautiful property, but some cleanliness and upkeep issues.

  • 3 of 5

Overall we had a very pleasant experience and really enjoyed staying at this cabin. The cabin itself was a reflection of what an "Up North" cabin should extension of it's surroundings. Beautiful knotty pine woodwork, natural wood-burning, field stone fireplace, and nicely decorated throughout. The view of the lake through the large patio doors and cathedral windows was breath-taking. The cabin was well-appointed with all the comforts of home except there could have been more seating area in the living room (only had seating for 4 people) and some end tables / coffee tables would have been nice. The two downstairs bedrooms were very comfortable and good-sized. The upstairs loft sleeping area was very large, but the mattresses on the beds left something to be desired. One of the upstairs beds was nothing more than a cheap box spring and mattress laid on the floor. There were some concerns especially with up-keep and cleanliness. We had to clean the microwave and refrigerator before we would use them, the carpeting in general in the living area / dining area looked dirty and had several burn holes close to the fireplace and the bathroom floor appeared stained / dirty. There were cobwebs with dead bugs trapped in them throughout the house especially in the windows. The deck / porch spaces surrounding the house were beautiful, large, and well-furnished, but again the furniture and gas grill were very dirty and also covered with cobwebs / bugs. There were motion sensor lights on the front porch, but they did not work so we were often coming back in the evening to total darkness. Neither the indoor fireplace nor the outdoor fire ring were stocked with firewood - we had to haul it ourselves and where it was stacked was not at all convenient. It should also be noted that there is a fairly steep stairway involving approximately 50 steps to get down to the lake...this is where the outdoor fire ring was located so hauling firewood was really a pain to haul down there. The boat dock was very nice and the lake supplied wonderful fishing...tons of good-sized pan fish and some nice bass (we did not fish for Northern or Muskie). Overall the upkeep and cleanliness really distracted from what was otherwise a very positive experience. On a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being the best rating) I would rate this property as a 6. If it were cleaner and better kept up I would have given it a 8 or 9.

Owner's Response: Dear Ron, Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you saw the beauty in the home and appreciated the serene up north surroundings. We are very sorry that there were some upkeep issues and will be promptly addressing this with our maintenance team (we have not been up to the cabin since July). Being in the middle of the national forest, it is difficult to keep up with those cobwebs, but we will certainly make a better effort. We hope that if we make some of the suggested improvements that you would consider staying with us again in the future. Again, we are sorry that your stay was not 100% satisfactory and we are grateful for the feedback. Sincerely, Matt and Kris

This is a lovely, comfortable cabin in a beautiful location.

  • 5 of 5

The description of this place on vrbo is very accurate. The cabin is very nice and comfortable and nicely decorated. The sleeping spaces are wonderful. We had our 3 children with us and they had plenty of room to spread out when needed but loved hanging out in the loft to lounge around and play games.

The property is beautiful. We did catch tons of fish once we figured out the best place really was a right off the peer (no need to cast far out). The kids ended up just using a stick with some line and a hook, it was so much fun. We didn't find the sandy swimming area until the the last day but so lovely. Go right from the peer around the edge of the lake. It is hidden behind the reeds.

We did both hikes that the owners recommended, which were both great. Wear swimwear if you go to Spectacle Lake. It has a really nice swimming area. More detailed directions to the Franklin Lake Nature Trail would have been helpful, as it is several miles off of 70. Service is spotty so we couldn't map it. We did find it though and it was gorgeous.

You are pretty far from town at this place, so come prepared with your groceries. You won't really want to leave once you get here! Eagle River is cute though. We did eat at Soda Pops in town which was fun but pricey for what you get. We also had the fish fry at The Nutty Squirrel. Great place with a very friendly atmosphere.

We went to Bond Falls in MI one day (about 40 miles), which was stunning. We stopped in the town of Phelps on the way back and had the BEST ice cream at Sweat Treats and more.

The owners and property manager were really helpful and responsive! The grill was out of gas and Jay (property manager) came over right away. Thanks for sharing your home with us! We loved it.
