About DARLENE

We have been serving renters for 33 years, with cabins of all sizes and from Sonora lodge to Pinecrest, Strawberry and Leland Meadows. From 1-7 bedrooms, sleeping 2-30, 1-4 baths. Great family fun vacation rentals. When we started 33 years ago the cabins didn't have TV, vcrs were new but we thought people would want the rest and relaxation of the great outdoors. The cabins had books and board games! There was no such thing as WiFi or cell phones. I still remember car phones in a bag in the 90's. Things have really changed since then. Originally I did it myself, booked, cleaned, hauled wood, shoveled snow. Then it became a family thing! My 7 kids grew up with the business. It's still very much a family business we all do our very best!

Great Place to Stay for Some Snow Fun!

  • 5 of 5

We just had the best time at this house on our annual February trip to the area!! There was a decent amount of snow there for the kids to play in, thanks to all the winter storms California has been seeing. This is high enough to get some snow and have it stick, but not quite high enough to have a lot of associated issues.

The street that the house is on was only plowed on the first half. We had snow tires and were able to make it through the inch or so of snow on the street, but our friends couldn't get any traction and had to put chains on just to get in the driveway. Not sure why the 2nd half of the street wasn't plowed, but we were prepared so it was no biggie!

The house was cold in the 2nd floor, and even with the fire and the heater, we could never get it to a comfortable temperature, but they provide lots of extra blankets, so everyone was comfortable. It's well equipped and clean and has a great layout for the kids to play in the family room and the parents to hang out in the kitchen.

There are also lots of great decks. We have elementary-aged kids and were able to let them play on the deck near the kitchen with the porch light on as it got a little dark because they were so happy to have snow! We were warm and they were happy!

We went up to Leland Snow Play one day (as we do every year) and ice skated at Long Barn Lodge the next. That was great and something we had never done before!!

All-in-all, it was a great trip! We've stayed at other places in this area, but this is by far our favorite!! I think we'll be coming back here next year!

Great location, comfortable - everything you need

  • 4 of 5

We loved the expanse of the open downstairs living area, the large deck, and all of the kitchen amenities. The house was clean, well appointed, with very comfortable beds. The only thing that kept this from being a 5-star review is the upstairs layout. One bedroom is open to the other 3 and the only upstairs bathroom is located within the smallest bedroom. This makes for a lack of privacy for 3 sleepers.

Owner's Response: Hi, thanks so much for the review. Every cabin is different and built the way cabins often are, we use what we got. They definitely are not hotels. They are a family affair. It is well loved and very lovely. A real log cabin! It was a pleasure to serve you! Thanks, Darlene

I love this cabin and the area.

Very nice place. We had issues with 3 power outages however. Also, we were stuck on Saturday because the road was not plowed. However, that provided for a great sledding and snow experience right there in front of the cabin! Sunday we finally did get out to Strawberry after the plow cleared the road. We had to cut the stay short one day because of no power, sadly. I could have handled it, but the ladies were a bit tired of it. It was nobody's fault of course! Many people were out of power with the heavy snow and branches falling on power lines. PGE and tree services were working hard to get things fixed. After getting fixed a few hours later it would happen again! But it was great to be snowed in, for me and the kids. But no power starts to get old for the ladies that want to use the laundry to dry clothes, and kitchen for cooking. Overall a great adventure! Some of the people with us had never seen snow before. So I was very happy for them. Next time I am sure the roads will be all cleared so I told them not to worry ... besides, they got to experience a real Winter storm in the Sierras!

Owner's Response: Haha..good sport..yep the county roads dept had a tough time that weekend getting around to plow with downed trees and power lines but we all made it. Good thing we have wood stoves and wood so you can heat and cook, have a great adventure attitude and you did it! The cabin is wonderful! So glad you enjoyed the sledding and the snow! It was a pleasure to serve you! Thanks, Darlene

Pinecrest Getaway

  • 4 of 5

Had an amazing time at our cabin. The place itself was in pristine condition and the towels and bed linens smelled fresh. I especially enjoyed the great room, [kitchen and living room combo], which was just perfect for the ten of us and never felt crowded.

Owner's Response: Hello, sorry you thought it was closer to Pinecrest. 15 minutes to the lake is pretty good. 5 minutes to Lyons reservoir. There's so many things to do. The cabin is advertised on homeaway/vrbo with a map link that shows exactly where it's located. I'm glad you enjoyed the cabin it is a great family cabin, with open floor plan, big rooms, king beds and wonderful decks, BBQ and great location, as many of our reviews have noted. It was a pleasure to serve you. If you would like a cabin closer to Pinecrest next time. I have many. They book 6 months to a year in advance. Pinecrest is weekly only in summer. Thanks again.
