We are a family of five who love our time in Cabo. Mike and I have three children ages 16, 7 and 5. I have been coming to Cabo for 20 years and love every trip. We live in Vancouver, Canada so vacation in Cabo every Christmas at our home and as many additional quick trips that we can fit in. All of our kids love to surf, snorkel, and explore the wonderful Mexican culture. We want everyone to enjoy Cabo as much as we do so we like to ask renters what their perfect vacation is like. I then email a customized list of recommendations which includes restaurants, beaches, spas, golf courses, and all the little hidden gems that we have found after 20 years of exploration.
Shanni Eckford purchased this villa in 2011

First the really bad news, someone on our travelling party got Hepatitis A which is from drinking contaminated food or water. We only ate out a couple times and fixed all our food otherwise at the house and used only bottled water so rec get Hep A vaccine before travelling to this area. We did eat a lot of fresh salsa from Wal-mart and the groc store across the street.
House was comfortable and pretty much as described. The furnishings were adequate but quite dated and a couple small items were not working or broken - some outdoor lighting and a fountain. House had a older feel to it. Location is in a subdivision on the ocean but it is a 1/2 mile walk downhill (uphill back to house) to get to small community pool on the ocean - no sandy beach area but a pretty ocean view. Internet service is subpar but usable. Had to call the house manager twice before we got the fuel tank on the water heater filled as we almost ran out.
Owner very easy to work with and has a nice guidebook she emails you. Went to several beaches but amenities on most beaches are very sparce except Medano which does have lounge chairs at the Mango bar you can use if you spend $20 in food/drink purchases per person. The other beaches have very limited amenities if any so bring your own beach chairs and umbrella that the owner has available to use. Snokelling at the recommended Santa Maria and Chileno beaches was terrible - poor visibility and only a few fish to see.
The downtown area was pretty quiet even in the evening for a bar hopping night - drinks were expensive at all the bars ($8-10) and all the bars were dead (even Cabo Wabo) until about 11 P the Squid Roe bar had some younger crowd dancing.
We were not real impressed with the Cabo area and this was not a luxury property, but adequate for the price.
We just arrived back from our stay and I miss the house and Mexico already. We shared the house with family friends both of us having two children each. It was exactly as the pictures and description described. It is a great location and Shanies guidebook was a great resource. We had a car and traveled to Todos Los Santos, Cerrito Beach, San Jose, Chileano beach etc. My husband and friend scheduled a fising trip with Gordo Banks out of La Playita and were not disappointed, we feasted on fish for a few meals! We also went on a saling snorking trip with our families and that turned out to be one of our favorite days. The community pool was either us or just a few others, the kids were able to play hide and seek in all the rocks below and the walk to the pool took my breath away everytime.
A few things to consider is that the interenet was very intermittent so if you need it for work you could have issues. For us it was not a problem really since our vacation was about relaxing. If t..v is important to you be sure to get a netflix account before you go to have some viewing. Again, not an issue for us as the views and outside patios are so great you really have no desire to be inside watching t.v. or on the internet.
Great house with everything you need to dine in and hang out. Kids loved the Spa and Pool and would walk right into it every moring. Location is great. You are close to Costco and Carmelita Grocery Store and many places to eat. Staff is super helpful and I felt safe the whole time.
Would definitely recommend to any family to try this house as a VRBO it was an excellent stay.
Just back from a lovely stay in this well kept, comfortable, well set up vacation home. Owners were super easy to work with. House is in a private community of homes not far (10 minute drive) from the hub of Cabo beach, marina and night life yet far enough that you feel separate. Easy access (by car of course) to other area highlights. Pool and spa with a territorial and beach view, decks with comfy chairs and seating areas. Pool and spa heat up quickly (often a rarity with vacation homes). Everything you need for cooking in. 3 good sized rooms with their own bathrooms (1 up, 2 down), comfy living room right off the main deck area (which is also right off the kitchen and dining). Great for a family or couples/friends traveling together (though if couples traveling together, note that the master bedroom does not have a door - it is private (up the curved stairs, absolutely no line of sight) but no door...for sounds you might not want everyone else to hear while you are celebrating ;-) - yet equally as comfortable for a couples get away (which is what we did this time). Community pool down by the rocky beach is also very nice (we only saw 1 other person there in the 3 times we went down to it) and it was easy to get time at the tennis courts (again only one other group of people using it in the 4 times we went). Lots of extras (floating pool mats, beach umbrellas, etc) that add value and fun to your vacation.
Beautiful home in a great location. Communication with the owners could not have been better. Big plus was the guide book put together by Shanni. It was spot on and helped us make the most of our stay. Would definitely do it again.
When you rent a VRBO … and become part of that shared economy scene – you expect to have the feeling of it being somewhat like your home ( or at least I do). That’s why opting out of a sterile hotel room (regardless of designer elegance) is generally my “Go To” plan. However, sometimes people have wiped their slate so clean of personal affects that you feel you might as well be at a hotel. It is so much more special when you feel like it is actually home – away from home.
So, after a terribly wordy intro – Shanni’s Cabo home is a delightful retreat. It had the few family pictures that made you feel like you weren’t a stranger. The kitchen was full of all of those odd gadgets that when you cook you only HOPE you’ll find but so often don’t. With the market so close at the top of the hill with ginger & lemongrass & shallots … it’s the place to go. I’d wished I’d known earlier about the back take out counter where locals stop by for classic Mexican breakfast at 6:00 a.m.
The bedrooms/baths were excellently appointed and living room with its open wall to the pool area was where you really did curl up with a good book at night. My initial concern of being alone for 3 weeks … would I be safe / and even so … could I sleep the night through w/o some reservation. Absolutely ! It’s a bigger house than I needed … and yet it still had that warm feeling of being intimate. I’m guessing with a large family – you could still easily find a place to carve out as your own – or then as I was, perfect for just One.
Then there’s Victor, the fellow who does indeed solve every dilemma you may have for the property. He tackles what he says he’s going to – whether that’s providing lightbulbs or trimming an aggressive bougainvillea / even volunteering to take my suitcase into town for repair at a local place that he knew of after my own exhaustive search on the net. Even so much as to -when my taxi was late one afternoon – he says “Hop in , I have to pick my daughter up from school so if we hurry, I can drop you into downtown beforehand”
It’s a lovely home which clearly says the owners have spent time making it special & elegant all the same.
I walked to the Esperanza Hotel for lovely lunches & incredible spa afternoons.
Shanni’s home delivered – on every count.
A wonderful retreat. If you’re a quiet gourmet cook – or a nightlife seeker – or just want to read by the pool, this home is the perfect fit.
Our family had a terrific time staying at casa parasio. The three levels of living space allowed for lots of privacy as well as great communal living space. Both Victor the local manager and Shanni the owner went out of their way to ensure our visit was enjoyable and trouble free. The community pool area by the ocean is a fabulous addition. The views of lands end are spectacular. The best part is that almost no one in the area seems to use the ocean side pool so it's like having your own personal waterfront area to read, watch boats go by or practice yoga at sunrise or sunset. The small community pool near the casa is convenient to rinse off after going snorkeling at nearby Chileno bay.
Casa Parasio exceeded our expectations. We would love to return again. Thank you so much Shanni for sharing your beautiful home with us . The OMalleys
