Casa De Su Corazón-'House of Her Heart' is a family owned vacation home and is located in the much desired neighborhood of Santa Ana in the historic Centro of Merída. Casa De Su Corazón is within minutes walking distance of numerous museums, galleries, shops, restaurants, parks, and other activities of the Yucatan.
Casa De Su Corazón has been fully renovated (completed in 2013) and we have taken great care to tastefully decorate the home to provide you the comforts of your vacation getaway.
Behind the orange facade of the home is a large open, modern living area (with mexican accents) high ceilings and original pasta tile floors; a spacious dining room, a fully equipped kitchen, and a colorful living room with entertainment center including a flat screen cable television (free netflix), dvd player and numerous movies, and free wireless internet. Each room in the house has air conditioning and ceiling fans for your added comfort. Tall colonial design glass doors with screened windows open to the quaint, private, garden patio with an outside dining table and chairs for that morning cup of coffee to listen for the visiting parrots, or lounging in the sun beside the filtered plunge pool, or maybe the tranquility of lying in one of the hammocks enjoying the breeze and the sway of the palm trees. A weber grill is provided should you desire to have that old fashioned charcoal barbecue. The pool and patio have lighting should you desire to take a night-time dip or enjoy a glass of wine in the evening air.
There are two master bedrooms (Sealy Queens) with en suite bathrooms including walk-in showers. An on-demand hot water heater makes continuous hot water readily available. There is ample dresser and garment space for all your personal belongings.
A very unique feature in this 1800s home is the screened open air atrium with live bamboo trees. The atrium allows for the circulation of air throughout the home. The Yucatan has a very humid climate and air circulation is vital in the home.
There is a separate laundry room with washer, dryer, and clothes line adjacent to the patio for your convenience. You are welcome to use the picnic cooler, beach towels, beach bags, water bottles, and umbrellas should you make a trip to one of the nearby beaches. The public buses travel to and from the beach areas many times throughout the day.
We have board games, puzzles, cards and books for added entertainment. We welcome you to relax and enjoy your stay!
My name is Leslie Barker. I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota. I purchased this home with my parents, who live in Wyoming. We truly enjoy the People of Merída and throughout the Yucatan. Merída is a vibrant city with many things to do, see and experience. We have traveled to many of the towns outside the city and yet have so much we have not seen. We always feel safe and welcome.
Leslie Barker purchased this house in 2013
In 2011, after watching an episode of House Hunters International featuring renovated homes in Merída, Mexico, I told my family I would love to have a vacation home there. In October 2012, my mother and I celebrated our birthdays in the intriguing city of Merída. I made a decision then that I wanted to return soon and find a home. In February 2013, I found that dream home and we completed the purchase in June 2013. Immediately, we began the work to complete the renovations that had been started by the previous owner. From our family to yours, we hope you will enjoy your stay at Casa De Su Corazón and we look forward to your frequent return to the city of Merída that continues to call you back.
Casa De Su Corazón is a single level home with an open floor plan that welcomes you to plenty of space to relax and enjoy your vacation with all the comforts of home and so much more! It is truly in the best location to be able to walk to the numerous places and activities that take place in Centro every day. A Guest Book has been prepared for you to help guide you in the home and in the city during your stay. Our property manager, Andrea Traconis, speaks fluent Spanish and English. She is readily available to receive your calls on the cell phone we provide for use during your stay and to provide whatever assistance you may need; whether it is pre-arrival grocery shopping, transportation, or answering any questions you may have. As the owner, I am also available to receive your emails. We want to make sure your vacation is the very best! Welcome to Merída!
This was a very nice place to stay in one of our favorite destinations--Merida--in the heart of the Yucatan. Leslie was very prompt at customer service and even though we arrived Christmas Day, her local contact--Andrea--was waiting for us at the house--ready to explain all the details.
We very much appreciated it. The house was very nice and very centrally located. A relatively quiet street near two very nice squares. Good location.Nice place!
There are two queen beds in two bedrooms with two baths. We had two of our grown kids (boy and girl) with us, so I might note that the pull-out futon in one of the bedrooms is not at all comfortable, so one of our kids ended up on the couch. I would say it's perfect for 2 couples. Very well appointed in the kitchen. And Leslie was very informative and helpful.
Recommend it. Also, btw, I would totally recommend taking a cooking class at Los Dos, which we very much enjoyed. Have fun in Merida!
I rented this home for my son and his family for a week. They enjoyed it very much and appreciated the spacious feeling, the pool, the windows from the private patio area letting air into the living area. They loved the step down shower/bath feature. It made their stay very special in this remarkable city.
This was our first visit to Merida as my wife and I are scouting potential retirement spots. The house was very well laid out with the open floorplan that most Americans are looking for and the side patio was a nice open spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Centro and still be outside. The location was great, only two blocks from the Santa Ana park and it's neat little food stalls. We preferred the food stalls a few blocks south at the Santiago park as they offered more variety and a great vegetable, flour, spice and meat market. We hit most of the resetaurants around the Santa Lucia park which was an easy walk from this location.
Here are the pro's that see for this house:
- Location : as mentioned above, the house was close to everything that most folks want to see in the Centro. I suppose you could try and find a place closer ot the Main square, but I imagine the road noise would be even worse
- Styling: The layout and decorating tastes of the owner were very much in alignment with what we would do with the space.
- TV and Internet: There was a good handful of US channels available on the cable, the internet was good for 10Mbps downlink and the owner provides free access to Netflix so we caught up on a few shows while we were in town.
- Amenities: Toiletries were provided, the linens, towels, utensiles, etc were of good qualify and variety. They even provided umbrellas and bike! There is also a washer and dryer which work great once you realize that you need to turn on the gas to the dryer. What more could you ask for?
Here are the few cons that stuck out to us:
- Plumbing: Coming from America, we were not used to having to throw the toilet paper into the waste bin next to the toilet. I don't know how I missed this fact in doing my research on Merida, but apparently the plumbing is not capable of handling anyting but human waste so everything else needs to be bagged up and thrown out. I didn't spot this information in the rental agreement or the website.
- Pool: There was a sign in the pool closet saying to keep the water level below the skimmer since the skimmer lines leak so you need to do your own skimming with the net provided.
- Hot water: As mentioned in another review below the on demand hot water heater doesn't seem well able to keep up with folks who like hot showers. If I showered first, my wife was subjected to a luke warm shower and vice versa.
- Water: You must use bottled water for drinking and brushing teeth
This home was an absolute pleasure! Very clean with all of the amenities. All interactions with Lesley and her property manager were timely and professional. We loved the patio area and spent most of our time enjoying the landscaping and dip pool, just relaxing! We cooked a number of times and really appreciated the Weber grill for some yummy barbecue! The only downside is the noise from the street on the patio, but that is just the price you pay for the excellent location. The home is just a short walk away to excellent restuarants and attractions.
Truly a beautiful city and home! We would highly recommend this home and would definitely rent again!
Thank you Lesley! We appreciated all the little extras you provide (especially the Tequila;)
We just returned from 3 weeks in Merida at Casa de su Corazon. There were 3 of us and there was plenty of room for us to hang out together or be alone. The casa is equiped with everything and anything one could possibly need.
The kitchen is wonderful and the water set up provides purified water and ice. The place is clean, netflixs is available and the wifi works great. The beds are excellent. The location is walking distance to several plazas, good restaurants and shopping. Management is responsive and thorough. We will return.
We stayed one week at the Casa de su Corazon at the end of March. The house was very clean and comfortable and we really liked the way it was decorated. We really liked the atmosphere of the house. It felt just like home. We were in Merida to take Spanish lessons at Calle 55 language school which is conveniently located just 10 minutes away by foot. The owner and property manager did their very best to accommodate us. There is a bit of traffic noise at night, but closing the door of the bedroom eliminates all noise.
The English Library located on Calle 53 between Calle 66 and 68 hosts a House and Garden Walking Tour through the winter months every Tuesday at 9 am until 12 noon. This is a wonderful opportunity to see the old and newly renovated homes in the centro historic district of Merída.
