About Ann & Dan Smith

We purchased our second home in the Grand Haven area, which is a block away from the cottage and will be our retirement home. We have been vacationing and boating here for the last 10 years. We love the Grand Haven/Spring Lake area! It has some of the best beaches, boating and sunsets anywhere in the world. We enjoy being able to walk the boardwalk to the lighthouse, attend the many festivals and events in the area and watch the musical fountain. We have visited many places and our favorite place to vacation is Grand Haven/Spring Lake. We love Lake Michigan 'Salt free and Shark Free!'

Ann & Dan Smith purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Ann & Dan Smith chose West Central

Best of both worlds, close to downtown Grand Haven and all the hustle and bustle, yet far enough away to enjoy Spring Lake, relaxing in the backyard watching the sailboats. Or better yet, bring your own boat and enjoy boating and use of the private dock just a block and a half away. The public access is one house away, perfect for launching your kayaks or if you prefer biking, the bike path is at the end of the block. There is a garage to store the kayaks or bikes you bring along. Want to bring your own boat, you have access to our private 100 foot dock with electric and private deck to just enjoy relaxing by the water.

What makes this cottage unique

Spring Lake, is a nice lake offering 1.741 square miles, a great place for boating, tubing and a channel that provides access to Lake Michigan. At night you can watch the musical fountain in downtown Grand Haven. Cottage has Lake view & provides lake access without the cost of paying for 'waterfront' cottages and includes a private dock on Spring Lake. We love the quaint charm of the bungalow cottage and watching the sailboat races is one of our favorite things to do while relaxing at the lake.

Wonderful lake cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a week in this cozy cottage that was central to lots of regional beaches. Our young boys are water babies & found the dune hiking to be fun too.

The tri-cities area had lots of parks (fee and non-fee), nice libraries for rainy mornings and no shortage of ice cream places!

The house is nestled in a pretty quiet neighborhood (an occasional motorcycle or car revv noted, but nothing to deter us from giving excellent marks!). Neighbors waived on our walks.

The kitchen was well-stocked with lots of utensils, pans and Tupperware. It was nice to have everything at our disposal. Including a full size grill in the backyard and washer/dryer, to feel at home.

Bedrooms were right size (some may think they're small - but who spends time in their bedrooms when there are lakes to explore??) and had supportive mattresses and soft sheets. Stairs to the 2nd floor were a bit tight for the 6'3" person in our family, but not unmanageable. The decor of the whole house is very tasteful - with soothing, beachy colors and accents that remind you that you're on 'lake time' now. Nice wood flooring throughout complements.

There is public access to Spring Lake steps from the house, but the hosts also have a dock to sit and watch the world go by with cold beverage in hand. This was one of our favorite things about the house. We spent many evenings camped out there watching for turtle heads to pop out of the water.

Very relaxed pace and yet, close enough to the shopping, restaurants and beaches. Super cute ( & well appointed) house in a central location with caring hosts - we would definitely recommend! Hope to come back again! :-)

Great cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 5 with kids ages 1, 4, and 7. We stayed in the cottage for a week in late June and had a great time! The cottage was incredibly clean and well-kept and in a quiet area but close to everything. Unfortunately the weather was too cold to spend a lot of time in the water, but it was nice looking at the lake and taking walks. The only aspect of the cottage we didn't like is that the stairs are a little narrow and are difficult to navigate, especially when carrying small children. But that wouldn't stop us from highly recommending this cottage. The owners were very easy to work with and were quick to respond to any issues that we had. All in all, this was a great experience, and we would gladly rent again.

Great place to bring your family

  • 5 of 5

Your cottage was a beautiful place, very roomy, very clean, and very accomodating. We also enjoyed the patio outside and the grill. Your boat dock was not to far and we had a great time hanging out there a couple of evenings. Your cottage was in a peaceful quiet neighborhood. Grand Haven and Spring Lake area is a nice place to vacation. Lots of things to do, great beaches, good eating places, and plenty of shops to go in. We enjoyed the Community worship service on Sunday evening, enjoyed walking out to the lighthouse several times, and enjoyed the water fountain lightshow. The temperatures and the water were just right most of the week. The cottage and the area of Grand Haven/Spring Lake is a wonderful place to have a family vacation.

This was an amazing stay. We have 4 boys and this house had plenty of space for all of us! I love being able to pack only personal items, this house had everything from dishes, to towels, and even a baby gate for the stairs! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us.

Beautiful Lake, Fun cottage

  • 5 of 5

My family and I enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing week at Spring Lake in July, 2016.The cottage was perfect for our needs. We loved the nautical theme and found it to be very neat and clean. The bedding was very adequate and comfortable. The private dock space on the lake was our favorite place "to chill out"! Even though it was a very hot week, down by the lake it was always 10 degrees cooler. The owners were most pleasant and accommodating. A ceiling fan on the front porch would make it perfect. Hope to return in the future. We loved the slower pace of the Spring Lake area.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed our cottage! We look forward to having your return for a vacation in the future. We will look into that suggestion of a ceiling fan on the front porch, have thought about it myself!
