About Marc & Cécile SIMON
Former expatriate family (Australia & Singapour) with 4 grownup children living in Canada, switzerland and France. We love to welcome people, chat, share the best of life. Our best quotation:'They did not know it was impossible so they did it' (Mark Twain)
Marc & Cécile SIMON purchased this House in 2011
Why Marc & Cécile SIMON chose Grand Sud
We came to Aix after 6 years overseas and felt in love with the beauty of Provence region.
What makes this House unique
The best we can offer: silence, beauty of nature and a place to share what life is good about.
Pool / Spa
The location of the house is perfect - it's just outside of Aix (which is what you want, especially when Aix is in the midst of major construction work!). You feel like you are miles away in the country side but really just a few minutes drive from the city and otherwise in a perfect spot to explore Provence. The property is well maintained and very clean. The only thing I note is that the guest house is not air-conditioned and because the windows are not screened (which seems to be the norm in France), you can't really leave the windows open at night (lots of mosquitos). So it can get a bit hot if it's hot outside. There is a fan in the house and the owner very kindly (and without us even asking) brought us bug spray. With the spray, we could leave one window open overnight and with the fan that was ok. Overall, this is an amazing place. The hosts are super helpful and their recommendations for restaurants and activities are worth taking - they were all spot-on for us. As a bonus, Cecile made a delicious lavender cake, which she shared with us!.
The guesthouse and hosts were both wonderful. Clean, quiet, comfortable, close to local and regional bus lines and centrally located for easy day trips (by car, bus, or train). Definitely recommend the hike with Cécile: we learned a lot about Aix en Provence and Cezanne and enjoyed a fabulous lunch which Cécile made, packed and carried! We definitely recommend this property.
Wonderful little house in a quiet location, situated in a beautiful garden. Great for a couple.
We enjoyed a wonderful holiday here for 2 weeks in the middle of May.The house itself was ideal for us and beautifully designed for a very comfortable stay. It was very clean and well maintained. We very much enjoyed sitting outside on the terrace overlooking the little olive grove, sipping a glass of wine whilst we watched the sun going down! The shared infinity pool is also really lovely. Our hosts, Marc and Cecile were very kind - welcoming, helpful and very generous. All arrangements with them were easy and clear. They not only provided useful information for sight-seeing but generous little gifts of wine or cake which we would find on the terrace table after a day out - even a vase of sweet smelling pretty flowers from the garden! Being situated just south of Aix-en-Provence, La Pauseto is perfect for exploring Provence. We made fantastic trips to many places, visiting historic towns, hiking and boat trips: St Maries de la Mer and Aigues Mort in the Carmargue (boat trip on the Petit Rhone is recommended!), Aix itself and the Cezanne trail, touring the hill top villages of the Luberon, Salon de Provence (of Nostradamus fame), Arles where we saw a marvellous Van Gogh exhibition, the pretty seaside town of Cassis and the not to be missed Calanques (swimming and another recommended boat trip) - and too much more to write here! We have no hesitation in recommending La Pauseto. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and exploring the area, with the peaceful haven of La Pauseto to return 'home' to every day. Thank you Marc and Cecile!
Sarah and Terry were absolute perfect guests !
We enjoyed sharing in the garden while they were coming back at La Pauseto or on their way to visit Provence.
They are a very nice and smiling couple, ready to talk and also happy to live a quite moment at the guesthouse.
We felt they both enjoyed living on the same land with a family and having a good privacy at La Pauseto.
They took well care of the property and were respectful of the rules and regulations .
We really recommend them and hope to see them next year !
Marc & Cécile
We stayed at La Pauseto for 7 days and loved it - Marc and Cecile have done a great job decorating the place and the large garden was very nice to have as well. Both of them gave us a lot of really useful travel advice (a few things we'd have missed seeing otherwise) and were also very responsive to any questions/issues as they lived on site during our stay. All in all we would highly recommend!

Discover the charm of Aix-en-Provence, town of water, town of art.
The town also knows how to blend different eras and culture.
Discover the famous city of the painter Cezanne: markets, shops and pedestrian streets, outdoor concerts, museums (including the Granet museum where exhibitions are organized just like the Picasso-Cézanne retrospective)...
Here, all is colour and sensation: the light of the sky, the transparent green of the fountains, the shade of the plane trees, surprises held by the festival nights (http://www.festival-aix.com)
It is also an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area: the mountain Sainte Victoire, where you will find many hiking and mountain biking trails. Enjoy a swim in the turquoise waters of the Creeks near Marseille (53 km). Spend a day in the cities of art and the Avignon Popes' Palace (84 km), Arles and its Roman amphitheater, museum Antique and Van Gogh Museum (78 km). The opportunities are at hand, you can also visit beautiful Provencal village such as Les Baux de Provence (72 km)
All in all, they are so many reasons to come to Aix-en-Provence, as it is a focal point for all your discoveries in the area!
