Magical

  • 5 of 5

Two friends and I spent 5 magical days at one of these units on Potrero beach. The place was lovely, the beach view perfect and everything in the place seemed new. Babe, the manager, was on hand in person for anything we needed, including check-in, check-out, arranging a tour, (even knocking on the door when the tour driver arrived,) getting toilet paper, and taking care of any issues which arose. We felt pampered.

We also appreciated Potrero beach itself for its quiet and laid back atmosphere. We do recommend a car to take full advantage, but you can walk to a few restaurants and the sailing club. Tip: Ryan at the sailing club there can tell you about all the local things to do, and has sunk an anchor you can tie into about 20-30 minute kayak ride away. Snorkeling at that spot we saw rays, a turtle, fan coral, puffer fish, etc. Turns out we didn't have to travel very far for the best snorkeling I've seen in Costa Rica.

We loved about everything about our stay.

Adventure and Solitude

  • 5 of 5

We spoiled ourselves spending our first week in Costa Rica at Playa Potrero before moving on to Tamarindo and its busy beaches and bumper to bumper traffic (ugh). If we were to do it over we would make Dan's condo our home base for the duration of our time in Guanacaste.

The views from the three bedroom penthouse unit are stunning and the beach is right out the door. When you walk in you can't help but take a deep breath of ocean air and feel the tension leave your body. The kitchen is fully equipped and modern. The bedrooms are large and bright - everything you need is here, including an outdoor pool steps from the beach.

I travelled with my husband, our 9 and 11 yr-old daughters and my hubby's sister. We all loved this place equally. Watching birds out the back door, splashing in the pool, trying to sneak up on pelicans in the ocean, and walking down the beach trying different restaurants were great activities that didn't even require a car. Soda Brasalito was our favourite for local food and ambience.

We had a vehicle and a driver who grew up in gravel road country (my husband), so we travelled up the Monkey Trail to Playa Del Coco, Playa Hermosa and eventually all the way to the Nicaraguan border. Heading south we made it as far as Monteverde for a wicked zipline adventure, a walk through the cloud forest and a meet and greet with the local hummingbird population. If you stood still with your hands near the feeders the birds would stop and rest on your fingers. The girls will never forget that!

We managed these roads (including a 'wrong road' where we drove under a worker on a ladder and encountered a working oxen team) in the equivalent of a Nissan Sentra. The bumper was barely hanging on when we finished with it. I would recommend a four wheel drive!

You won't be disappointed if you choose to stay at Sunset Potrero Condos. Babe greeted us from the deck when we arrived and Dan was always ready to answer our questions.

Spring valley

  • 5 of 5

The Sunset Portrero penthouse we stayed in was literally picture perfect. The Pacific was steps away and most every room had a view of the water. My husband and I were the only guests at the pool our entire stay. Babe, the overseer was at the ready to help with anything from grocery shopping to arranging transportation. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this complex.

Beautiful, Bright Open condo!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! The Pictures do no do this place justice! Walking in you get the most amazing view! This view is duplicated in the upstairs bedroom and the main bedroom on the main floor! The beach is literally right behind the condo and is calm and beautiful. Waking up in the morning with the sound of the waves and all of the sounds of nature is wonderful! There is cold air-conditioning available if you need it, but the place is designed so you get a wonderful breeze without it! We walked down to the Beach House restaurant down the street and had a lovely meal with excellent service.

Equally as wonderful as the condo was the Manager, Babe. She went above and beyond for us before we even arrived in Costa Rica. She found out we were eloping while we were there and asked what she could do to help. I asked if she could recommend a florist and a baker. Not only did she recommend someone, but arranged everything, including sending pictures beforehand and arranging everything to be delivered to the condo. She greeted us with a smile and a hug and checked in throughout our stay to see if we needed anything . This was our first trip to Costa Rica and we couldn't have asked for a better beginning to our trip! We definitely would love to return someday! Pura Vida!

Great Accomodation and Great Location

  • 5 of 5

Myself my husband and 4 grownup kids stayed for 9 days. The accommodations layout was great and you could not get much closer to the beautiful beach. The location is superb close to activities and restaurants within walking distance. With having a full kitchen, we cooked quite a few of our meals. Dan was extremely helpful in helping me organize our first non all-inclusive trip. Would definitely stay there again.

GREAT VALUE AND WONDERFUL ACCOMMODATION

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed for 3 weeks and had a great time. We were unable to do all the tours but Dan was a big help in steering us towards activities that we both enjoyed. His 2nd in command ,Zorro, helped us immerse ourselves in the Tico lifestyle and we came away from our vacation with an appreciation of Costa Rica and it's people. Many times we've stayed in accommodations that were less than advertised but everything was great, eat in or dine at the local restaurants, swim in the ocean or just veg out. Would stay again.
