About Judy

Judy is a retired United Airlines flight attendant. Perhaps she served you a Mai Tai while you were crossing the ocean between San Francisco and Hawaii in the last 37 years. Tom is a retired educational consultant with extensive experience in Hong Kong and mainland China.

Judy purchased this condo in 2014

Why Judy chose Kona Coast

We chose Alii Villas as our future retirement home in 2003. We love Alii Villas, Kailua-Kona, and the Big Island for all they have to offer. Judy loves reading on sandy beaches and Tom enjoys fishing from shore. We choose this property because of its proximity to the ocean, friendliness of its residents, and its superb caring management team.

What makes this condo unique

This is a ground floor unit with no steps between the reserved parking space and living areas. The entry provides wheelchair access to the kitchen, living room, master bedroom, and private lanai. Likewise, the common area pool, pool bathrooms and b-b-q area are handicap accessible. The royal kona resort hotel, cafes and restaurants, abc store, and convenient shops are only about a mile away. Locked gates provide security while enabling residents and guests to easily access the lava-formed shoreline and tide pools. Nightly, residents and guests join together at the seawall with a drink to watch the sunset and share information about lave flows, snorkeling sites, favorite restaurants, and unique places to visit on the big island. The tropical landscaping and common areas are continuously maintained by a professional team of friendly, caring staff.

A beautiful condo.

  • 5 of 5

This property, with an outstanding view, was a delight. It was clean, comfortable and had a well equipped kitchen with everything we needed. We spent hours on the lanai whale watching, checking out the spinner dolphins and watching spectacular waves crash against the rocks. It's close proximity to town made for a perfect morning walk. The owner, Judy, was just a phone call away and always helpful. The complex's manager and his staff were very friendly and always willing to lend a cooler or screwdriver or answer any questions on beaches and restaurants.

Would give this an A+!

Owner's Response: So happy you enjoyed your 3 week stay. We agree, the whales and dolphins are fun to watch. If you're lucky, you can see a birthing or mamma whale and baby. We love our staff at Alii Villas. Kyle, Cory and Jason are like family to many of us. The cooler is a mystery. We have always had one in the past. I don't know what happened to it. Our cleaner says thank you for leaving the condo so nice! We hope you'll return, Aloha

Beautiful Days!

  • 5 of 5

Unit 129 at Alii Villas was all that we thought it would be. The complex is very well kept and the manager and grounds keeper were friendly and helpful. The pool and barbecue area were always clean and inviting. The unit itself was clean, updated and as well stocked as any we have stayed in. Falling asleep to, and waking with the sound of waves was so relaxing. Sitting on the lanai every day (clean and comfy furniture) for meals or a glass of wine was also a real treat. Watching sunsets at the end of the parking lot with residents and vacationers always led to good conversation and friendly vibes as well. We have stayed at Alii Villas several times and have yet to be disappointed. Judy's unit is one of the best. We shared the unit with another couple and it was a perfect fit. We highly recommend this complex and unit 129 in particular.

Favourite activities: snorkeling at Two-Step, swimming at Kua Bay, exploring the Kona coastline, sitting and watching the waves pounding the shoreline. Favourite Places: Hawi, Waipio Valley, Two-Step, Kua Bay, Hapuna Beach and South Point. Favourite Restaurants: Umekes, Kona Brewing Company, Big Island Pizza (near Costco), Sushi Rock (Hawi), Kona Inn for drinks and pupus at sunset (very reasonable).

More than just a place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time in this wonderful unit and the complex as a whole. This is one of those places that you feel at home in right away. Very nice Hawaiian/Polynesian themed decor, with quality furnishings and a very large usable lanai. Many a morning was spent having donuts and coffee while watching the dolphins coming in close to shore. Very nice view while sitting out on the lanai. Both of town and the ocean. Beds are comfortable. Good breezes off the ocean. Access to the sea is steps away, with very good snorkeling just off the rocks with a couple good entry points(when water is calm). Pretty quiet most of the time. The only real noise you get is action at the pool next door(kids at play), and the crashing waves. The complex pool is great, and it is kept at a comfortable swimming temp. Grounds staff and management are also tops. Gonna stay here again for sure.

great location

  • 4 of 5

We found this property to be in a perfect location for us, just a 10 minute walk to town and beautifully situated with a large outdoor sitting area looking out over the shore. The views of the sunset and village at night were spectacular. It provided a well-equipped kitchen, laundry facilities and beach towels / chairs. There is a parking space immediately adjacent. It was overall very quiet, however it is in close proximity to the small swimming pool of the complex next door - if you dont mind the distant sound of a few giggling children it's no big deal. The owners had great communication and prompt feedback, even checked in by email a couple of times during our stay to see if everything was OK or if we needed anything. The only negative was NO air-conditioning - even with the constant running of 3 ceiling fans and 2 floor fans, plus attempts to shade the balcony from the sun, the nights were pretty muggy and made for some restless sleep. Otherwise would have given 5 stars!

Fab time in Kona

  • 5 of 5

Judy, we just wanted to let you know it was PERFECT, everything was perfect with the condo & people we meet at the pool during our stay. The view out the lanai was picture perfect and just an update from the photo's, the table is good for 6 people to eat so a lot of room! We ate at the table on the lanai in the am watching the dolphins in the bay (every day like clockwork) and the pm watching the sunset dinner cruises in the bay from the loveseat & chairs on the other side of the lanai late into the night. Everything was clean, neat, decorated with good taste in the old Hawaiian way & comfortable. It was a joy to come home in the evening and sit out on the lanai-we only had the tv on ONCE in two weeks! Thanks for leaving coffee & staples to start the morning for those of us whom come in late at night! We hope to return, if not next year-- soon after & maybe this next trip will be THREE weeks :) PS/love your cleaning lady (Kari) too, she is a gem! Big thanks for letting us hang until we had to get to the airport on that last day-we soaked up the view from the lanai an extra hour! -L-

Tradewinds ~

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed this condo lodging, as it was so refreshing and reminiscent of old Hawaiiana, with gracious, well-appointed details for comfort and convenience. The panoramic ocean view from the lanai was great for watching the ocean and listening to waves crash on lava, while the carefree ease and ambience of the Kailua-Kona area is just a short 20-minute walk. Owner kept in contact with us to ensure we had all we needed, which was appreciated. Wonderful accommodations for a couple who hope to return!
