Maybe you just want to relax, read a book or go for a hike you can do that too.
Construction of this cabin began with fir logs from nearby forests and neighboring property. It was after thousands of hours of hand work - the dream of a couple from the east coast who met, lost contact and reconnected after 20 years became a reality.
Neither of them had construction experience, but they drew plans for the cabin, took the bark off the logs by hand, wrestled them into place and notched them to fit with a saw, an ax, and an adz, and filled the chinks with caulking. The logs sit on piers of rocks found locally.
After the cabin was erected, each log was cleaned, bleached, sanded, and sealed with urethane. The homeowners built the cabinetry throughout as well as the desk and myrtle wood dining table and benches.
The work of bark beetle larvae, who made attractive tunnel designs in the wood as they ate it, is showcased in logs above the kitchen and entry.
Colorful wood ducks, who nest nearby, are frequent visitors on the pond. Wild geese come and go, and a pair of eagles has a home in the area and occasionally land on a snag visible out the living room window. The pond is not owned by the cabin and is not accessible to guests, but we invite you to enjoy the peaceful view of quiet water and the majesty of tall trees.
This cabin is a very special home and is entirely handmade.
