A romantic stay in an old palace surrounded by great restaurants & shops.
Rent a stunning apartment in the heart of the old town, in a 200-year old palace. The apartment is the perfect blend of old and new; modern air conditioning, heating and appliances combined with 200-year-old architecture including original ceiling and wall murals. The balcony looks out on a lively street, but is minutes from the bustling Place Rossetti and dozens of restaurants, cafes and bars. You're a comfortable 5-10 minute walk from the bus station and the beach - the perfect location in the beautiful Old Town. Free Wi-Fi
This review is posted on two listings as the owner of the place, Mary Margaret, (in the following called MM), unlike other owners has two listings of the same place on VRBO, one listing has one good review, the other has mixed reviews. When booking the place I wondered a bit about the lack of reviews as this sometimes point to the fact that people with bad experiences choose to ‘forget’ about it rather than having to write negative things. I myself chose MM’s flat because she promised me I could extend and stay longer than the initial 2 booked weeks if I wanted to, saving me from moving too much, I travel a lot. Though agreeing to a possible at least 1 months stay I was not granted a key to the mailbox.
The promised English speaking lady to check me in, Sandra, was replaced by her only French speaking husband Yves who during the problems we had with getting the quite old television to work, suddenly signalled that ‘now he had to leave.’ A very stressful check-in process The wardrobe door in the bedroom gets stuck so you can’t get your clothes out, this could have been explained by Sandra if she had been there. Other issues included the end pieces of parts of the tiny shower constantly falling off and the tea kettle looking nasty inside. The WIFI password was a whopping 30 digits and took 2 days + extra emails to be made into the maximum 24 digits most modern laptops can take. The new windows in the flat take care of most of the music noise from the bar next door, unfortunately they don’t drown out drunk men screaming from the top of their lungs, sometimes until 7 in the morning. Sandra came 5 days later with no notice at 9 in the morning because ‘she was in the area’, having been told that every meeting needed to be arranged beforehand - another day I opened the main door talking on my phone, just to find an elderly man standing next to it clearly listening in on the conversation, quite creepy and made me feel spied upon as if someone suspected I was not living in the flat alone at the solo traveller discount. When writing to MM about the quite many issues in a nice way, she informed me I could no longer extend my stay as promised as her parents were now coming, but all the while I searched for other listings on VRBO her two listings about the same place came up as available. It doesn’t make a good host to use words as ‘delighted’ etc. after reviews, for the general lack of respect towards her guests there is only one star for Mary Margaret.
We enjoyed every moment of our stay in the apt in Vieux Nice - so convenient to the market, the sea, museums and public transport. Comfortable bed and charming salon with its painted ceiling.
