About Scott H. Thompson

Decatur Native attorney married to Atlanta native attorney, 3 kids, urban gardener with about 750,000 bees (not on this property!) and exactly 26 laying hens (not here either). Youth coach, Rotarian, Mountain Biker, Birder, Geek.

I couldn't have imagined what an incredible business experience this has been for a young lady. Letting her convert a few of our apartments into short-term rentals has given her first-hand business experiences that babysitting just doesn't cover!!

Scott H. Thompson purchased this house in 1995

Why Scott H. Thompson chose Decatur

When i retire, i'm going to build a Frank-Lloyd-Wright ish house on this creek, it's an amazing piece of property

What makes this house unique

Decatur! Don't get me started.....

It's a $5 uber ride to the train station

Great dog walking. Great patio for hanging out.

It's a side-by-side duplex but you only share ONE wall, and it's a hallway. You share no space at all, separate entrance, everything

Late check-ins are never a problem since we'll assign you a door code, and you don't need to meet for your 'key". Early check-in and late checkout depend on both your requests and the preceding/ following guests', then me negotiating something reasonable.

Disappointing, at best!

  • 1 of 5

The house/accommodations were acceptable. "Getting there" proved to be a challenge. While the original listing for the property included off-street parking, the "tiny bridge" you need to cross to get to the property was caved in with no auto access. In fact, we had to walk (carefully) across a makeshift "walkway" to get from the beginning of the driveway, over the creek, to the main driveway/garage/apartment, causing personal safety concerns, especially while carrying luggage and at night with no lighting. We had rented and paid for the listing NINE MONTHS in advance of our daughter's grad school graduation and had several email communications with the owner, including during the last three weeks before our arrival. At no point were we informed of the bridge collapse prior to our arrival or offered options to make other arrangements while we still had time to do so. We had made plans to have guests over for a graduation celebration for our daughter and three of her fellow graduates but had to change our celebration location just 24 hours before the scheduled time to a public park due to our concern for the safety of our guests. As it turns out, there was an elderly grandparent of one of the graduates in a wheelchair. We would not have been able to accommodate him safely if we had not changed the location of the celebration. At the very least, we should have been informed of the bridge collapse immediately and offered a refund while we still had time to make alternate suitable arrangements. We did see the landlord several times during our four day stay. He was pleasant at all times but the condition and accessibility of the rental were very disappointing. In spite of it all, we were determined to make the best of our daughter's graduation and address the rental concerns once we were back home. A word to the wise - be sure you know what you're getting yourselves into before exchanging any funds. While we understand that anything can happen (like a bridge collapsing), we feel we deserved full disclosure in enough time to make other arrangements for such an important event.

Owner's Response: The bridge is Well-disclosed on the. Listing pages. She had handicapped Folks in her party. How were they goingto get up the stairs, anyway? She was embarrassed. Hundreds of folks have walked over the bridge. .

Great Location in Decatur

  • 5 of 5

We had a great experience at this home in Decatur. The location is great for anyone visiting Agnes Scott College or downtown Decatur. The area is very quiet and there's plenty of space in the home for large groups. Scott was very accommodating and everything was ready for us when we arrived. Would definitely stay here again!

Nice place!

  • 4 of 5

My family and I were looking for a place that would accommodate 11 people as we traveled from Indianapolis to Florida. Turns out out we only had 9 people to make the trip. We all had plenty of space. The price was great also!

Thanks Scott!

Horrible experience, had to leave

  • 1 of 5

The rental was not at all like the pictures provided on the website. The patio area which is pictured on the website was covered in leaves, no grill (two rotted grills down by garage we saw the next day). He asked for a 2 hr heads up with our arrival time. I gave him 4 .The unit was to be ready at 3 pm, I told told him we would arrive around 4. We drove to the unit, arriving at 330 pm just to see the location. He pulled up behind us saying we were early. We told him we were going to the grocery, get a bite and would be gone for a couple hours more. He told us "Margot has cleaned it. I just have to vacuum." He told us the heat was not working but that there were space heaters running and the HVAC service will be there Saturday am. We left and came back shortly after 6 pm. He was still there but said it was ok to bring in our items. We walked in the door and leaves and debris covered the two rugs and floor by the door. There was a full trash bag on the dining table. We first went into the kitchen to put our groceries up and the stove had grease and crumbs, the oven was filthy, My daughter went in to the bathroom. It was dirty. The back bedroom had the blankets of the king bed thrown over the bunk bed, no sheets were on the bed. A dead plant was on the dresser. The other room had beds made. An empty tissue box and dead plant on a table in the living room and a large dead plant in the dining room. When I told Scott "the place doesn't look like it is ready for us" he rudely said "WHAT ISN'T READY? THE SHEETS ARE IN THE DRYER!". It was getting late, and was dark and we told him we did not need the king bed. He took the trash and left. No apologies, no explanations. My daughter and I were frankly at a loss in a town we do not know, in a unit we had paid a significant fee for with an owner we were afraid of. He was very rude and intimidating with our questions/concerns. The next morning in the daylight it became even clearer how dirty and unlike the pictures the place was inside and out. We decided we needed to leave. We contacted VRBO for guidance that morning. They said they usually contact the owner but when I told them how we had been treated by the owner they agreed not to contact him until we leave. We packed up while the HVAC service was there that morning. and contacted Scott once off property. This special trip with my daughter for her birthday was ruined.

Owner's Response: "dead plants"?? Please take into account our other reviews. Interesting that in 3 years, with 5 listings, my daughter commented that we've never looked forward to a guests' departure....
