Comfortable home in very close proximity to River Arts District and Downtown Asheville

  • 4 of 5

We spent two months in this comfortable home in Asheville to enjoy the fall in the hill country of Western North Carolina. The home was well represented by the photos in the VRBO listing, comfortable and well equipped. The owner was responsive to any issues that arose. The house is in a quite neighborhood. The location was ideal for exploring the various aspects of Asheville, which has a vibrant arts district (River Arts is just blocks away with over 200 artists of multiple artistic mediums in residence), the Biltmore estate (2 miles away) and active Downtown area (1 mile) with a diverse array of restaurants of many different ethnic foods and stores. Asheville seems to be a revitalizing city with numerous attractions. As a photographer, the access to highways leading to the Great Smokies, Blue Ridge Highway and other nearby features was relatively easy. Fall colors in this part of the Pisgah National Forest and Smokies, as well as the numerous waterfalls nearby, were beautiful. We enjoyed our stay.

Decent Living

  • 3 of 5

This place worked for our needs, however, it was not quite as nice as we expected. The floors are unfinished, the layout of the house is a little odd, and the doors to the bedrooms are thin and do not lock. In addition, when we arrived, the house had not been fully cleaned. However, the hot tub was a nice perk!

One thing to note when booking this place, the stated nightly rate does not include the $136 cleaning fee! Make sure to factor that in when you are considering the house.

Owner's Response: Hi Amy, We are so glad to hear that the home worked for your needs! Our guest's just love being so close to downtown and walking distance to RAD. You know it is so strange, every so often we get a guest who doesn't love the super modern design of our Green-Built home and it is usually because they have never been in an uber modern green construction home where the builder did a lot of cool but usual ideas in the design. The floors are finished but it is a finished concrete stain with a nice coating on top of that. Guest's usually just love the color and the feel of the floors as well as how easy they are to clean! We think it is great that the builder saved so many trees by installing an ultra modern floor design. Many of our guests find it quite spacious and the bedrooms are fairly spaced out for privacy. The doors are one of the best features of the home as they are all siding, barn style doors and guests just LOVE them. Probably the best aspect of the house! No they don't lock, but usually groups respect each other's privacy and don't barge in on their travel mates! Regarding the cleaning fee, we love boasting to guests that our home is professionally cleaned by Merry Maids and yes, that does cost a little more than an untrained owner dropping by to clean it on their day off. When you arrived there were no complaints and you told us how happy you were with the home. It was only well after you checked out that you mentioned a single hair in one of the sinks and requested a full refund of your cleaning fee. We explained that we would have been happy to take care of this immediately during your stay but could not offer a refund since it was never mentioned and the cleaners were not given the chance to correct their mistake. We are so sorry that this prompted you to leave a bad review as during your stay you seemed to love the place. We hope you choose to stay with us in the future.

This place is not picturesque, but it was great for what we needed, a decent place to crash in town at a good price. The interior was clean and very modern. We actually eat as a family, which was somewhat difficult at the counter, but every other piece of furniture was comfortable and clean and suited our needs. Way better than staying in a hotel for the week.

Arts district of Asheville

  • 4 of 5

Great location for being able to get anywhere in Asheville in minutes. Located in walking distance to the majority of galleries, although we did drive the most of the time. Outside of the residence is nothing special to look at, but that did not matter to us. The space inside met are immediate needs. Nice layout and adequately furnished as the add states. The con's we had are the following:

1) Hot tub should have been checked prior to arriving so that it was usable. When we arrived it was down a foot of water and the chlorine levels were suspect. Once a call was made it was addressed the next day)

2) All of the doors in the place are barn style with no locks. If you are looking for uninterrupted privacy this may be a concern

3) Based on the design of the house , sound travels. Finished cement floors and no real mechanism for trapping sound - it bounces around.

None of the above con's would prevent me from renting this location again. Would recommend this location to others.

Owner's Response: Hi Michael, We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at this awesome property! Thank you for pointing out all the features you loved about the home as well as its walkability. Regarding the hot tub, we do check the tub prior to all stays. The hot tub is dumped or treated prior to each stay. When you called about the low water levels we informed you that there is a hose for convenience right next to the hot tub, as sometimes guests splash out too much water and have to top it off. We let you know that you could refill it or if you preferred we would come by and do it for you. You chose the second option. When I arrived the hot tub water level was still above the jets (which is right where is it supposed to be) the water is usually down about 8-12 inches to allow for the water to rise when 6 adults get in the tub. It is is any fuller than that the water will overflow and it will be back to that same, just above the jets, that it was during your stay. Regardless we filled it up a bit more, as we want our guests to be happy and have a great stay! You mentioned the chorine levels being "suspect" but we checked them during your stay and they were perfect. I know it may seem like a little too harsh on the chemicals but it is still less harsh than most hotel hot tubs and pools most likely and we have to keep everything at the proper level to keep the tub and water balanced. We are so, so happy to hear that you would stay again and recommend this home to other travelers. We hope to host you again!
