About Debra and Jeff Carpenter

Mrs. has worked for RAL Resort Property Management for 20 years. Mr. is a Contractor 25 years. We are living our dream. We purchased this home in Sautee Nacoochee for our retirement but loved this area so much we relocated from Fort Myers, Florida early. No regrets!

Debra and Jeff Carpenter purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Debra and Jeff Carpenter chose Northeast Mountains

Quiet location. Professionally cleaned and serviced pest control. Beautiful Furnishings, comfy beds, tvs in every room, creek front. Access to private waterfall.

Every day in the mountains is magical. Never know what you will see when you wake up. Humming birds, deer, wild turkey, turtles and rabbits abound in this area. Waterfalls, lakes, little white chapels and farmlands make the drive into Helen a scenic one.

All who come to this cabin, both young and old, feel the magic. Impeccable furnishings, and a warm ambiance makes this cabin an amazing vacation experience. A unique combination of all modern conveniences and eclectic antique decor offers an enchanting escape for families, lovers and friends who want to make magical memories for years to come. Allow the positive energy that radiates from this property embrace you and follow you home.

If the creek is not dreamy enough for you then transform the mountain experience to the excitement of a day at the lake. Travel just 10 miles to LaPrades Marina on Lake Burton. You will find 3 Levels of Lakeside Dining in the new 10,000 sq.ft. building. You will delight in the beautiful decor with indoor/outdoor stone fireplaces. You can rent Boats and Pontoons by the hour, and by the day to drift or ski your way around the 64 miles of shore line. It's great to get a suntan in the mountains. Check out the Party Pontoon Boat which seats 16, has a great stereo system and a slide for kids of all ages to enjoy when parked in the lake. You can take our tubes with you on the boat and float and daydream on this beautiful lake.

What makes this cabin unique

Antiques mixed with tasteful decor makes for a unique and relaxing hide away. Screened porch offer seating area and a day bed for quiet naps overlooking forest and creek. Breath in the fresh mountain air and day dream... Hot tub under the stars. Walk to the nearby waterfall and experience nature in it's purist form of wild flowers, damsels, dragonflies, butterflies, humming birds, small trout and deer. You may encounter an otter or beaver along the way! Build a fire in the fire pit and roast weenies and marshmellows in the light of the moon and count the fire flies or have an oyster roast in the stone bar- b-que pit. Picnic on the creek. Share quiet conversation in the twinkle lighted gazebo or the double swing on the creek. Cabin is decorated for Christmas from Nov 24-Jan 10th. Walk the creek 1/2 mile to a private waterfall ! This luxury cabin has been described by our guests as a little piece of heaven. Helen is home to some of the most magnificent waterfalls in the country.

Helen, Georgia attractions offer access to three beautiful waterfalls. You can stroll through the mountain laurel and rhododendron to the cascading Anna Ruby Falls where two creeks meet. Two waterfalls plunge together to become Smith Creek.

If you and your honey are looking for a bit of adventure away from tourists, visit Dukes Creek Falls along the 0.8-mile Dukes Creek Trail. In addition to offering scenic beauty, this waterfall is known for giving visitors who pan for gold good luck.

As one of the area’s most unusual waterfalls, Raven Cliff Falls along Chattooga Road has water that flows through a split in solid rock. On one side of the rock, the water drops 100 feet. On the other, the water falls 60 feet and rushes through the rock face before it drops another 20 feet into a deep pool. The water then drops 20 more feet into Dodd Creek

Our entire family enjoyed the stay here in this wooded and comfortable log cabin. From the youngest (10 months) to the oldest (63 years) all of were comfortable and relaxed and spent a Christmas to be remembered forever here. Debra and Jeff were very hospitable and accommodating in all respects. We would return in a heartbeat.

Magical Log Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful vacation at this beautiful cabin. It has everything you need. The view is spectacular over looking the running creek below. The location is great, only 6 miles from Helen. Even with internet, my children put down their iPads and tablets and we enjoyed quality family time with all the games, pool table, shuffle board, and foosball table. We loved building a fire in the fire pit and roasting marsh mellows. The hot tub is a great way to relax. During our stay is was beautifully decorated for Christmas. It made it nice for us that it was also pet friendly. I know you won't go wrong by selecting this cabin for your vacation.

The cabin was beautifully decorated for the holidays and felt like home. Its spacious and cozy and the wood burning stove was wonderful. Had a great evening one night at the fire pit that is right on the creek. Three large bedrooms and the basement had sleeping room as well with a TV, pool table and foosball ! Jeff and Debra were very helpful. Highly recommend this - it was the perfect family-honeymoon spot!

Just Amazing

  • 5 of 5

The property was very easy to find and beautifully decorated. The photos do not do the cabin justice. Everything was clean and tidy upon our arrival with christmas music playing on the TV. There was more than enough to fill our schedules for the entire weekend from the hot tub under the stars, to the shuffleboard and pool tables, to the firepit/gazebo/swings outside near the creek. The cabin was located approximately 15 minutes from Helen and 45 minutes Tallulah falls, which was also a plus. Debra and Jeff were very thorough and prompt with replies and general information. I will definitely be making this place a regular destination.

Fantastic family getaway!

We had a wonderful trip and enjoyed spending time with family playing shuffle board, sitting on the porch and hanging out by the creek/fire pit. Debra was very responsive in helping to plan the trip and also for anything we needed while there!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We've been vacationing in the North GA mountains for years and this home is by far our favorite to date. It is bigger than expected, beautifully furnished, easy to access, and close to everything needed. The beds are comfortable and the home provides a pool table, shuffleboard, Foosball table and is right on the creek. Just bring food, firewood, and friends/family. This beautiful, well-cared-for home provides the rest.

Helen is just the beginning. The history of our area is as follows.

The Legend Of Sautee & Nacoochee

The Legend of Sautee and Nacoochee is well documented. The first White settlers, coming up the Unicoi Trail, now known as Georgia Highway 17, heard the story as they stopped to rest in the shade of the giant white oak, still standing adjacent the Old Sautee Store. (Hwy 17 & 255).

One among them, George Williams, a young lad at the time, retold this story in his memoirs. The Cherokees considered themselves to be a superior race, as indeed they were. Handsome, tall and intelligent, they even had an alphabet, the first in America. They were not nomads, they built log houses and tilled the soil. They had but one grievous fault. This superiority was allowed to show. Naturally, this did not endear them to the neighboring tribes. One of these, the Chickasaws, was constantly at war with the Cherokee.

However, there were moments of relative calm. During one such truce, a band of Chickasaws was allowed to cross over Cherokee land, provided they stay on the Unicoi Trail and rested only at designated spots. One such spot was where two trails crossed at the junction of two lovely valleys, the same place where - a century later, a young George Williams stopped. As the Chickasaw band rested, in the shade of the giant oak, around them gathered curious Cherokees, trying to get a closer look at the dispised Chickasaws. Soon they were trading insults and obscenities. The Cherokees were hoping to bait the Chicasaws into making an overt act. But, the Chickasaws were too cagey to be trapped by such obvious maneuvers.

One of the Chickasaws stands aloof from this bickering. It is Sautee: young, handsome and a chief's son. He dreams of the day when he will be chief. And has the authority to negotiate permanent peace with the Cherokees. Some of this greatness must have shown, for Nacoochee, the Cherokee chief's 16-year-old daughter, is so taken by this handsome stranger that she stares unashamedly. Then their eyes meet. The magic alchemy of love does the rest. Not one spoken word - and yet a tryst was made.

That night Nacoochee steals away from her father's log house to meet with Sautee, under the giant white oak, now known as the Sautee Oak. By this time, they are helplessly and hopelessly in love. The rest of Sautee's party, counsels against this madness. No good could come of this flagrant violation of their truce. If Wahoo, the girl's father, learned of this meeting, all would be doomed. But, then, as now, teenagers feel they must defy the establishment. "Run, if you must," Sautee tells his followers, "but, I remain here with Nacoochee. Together we will make Wahoo understand. This must be the first step to a lasting peace between our two nations.

The couple secretly spent time together in a secret cave within Yonah Mountain. Despite their private affair, both felt compelled to bring their love to the Chief for approval, never dreaming that they would not receive his blessing.

To the young couples surprise, the Chief was blinded by anger when his daughter presented Sautee as the man she loved, not only ordering him away, but ordering him to be thrown from the highest cliffs of the Yonah Mountains. Nacoochee was forced to look on to her lover's demise. Overcome with grief, and unable to see a life worth living without Sautee, she too threw herself from the high cliffs. They were united at the cliff's basin, joined forever in death. Wahoo, the Chief, found the fallen couple in an endearing embrace, realizing too late that his daughter's love was in fact her fate. Wahoo becomes overcome with remorse, something he will live with the rest of his life , choosing to leave the couple united in death at the mountain's basin.

Today, that burial mound still stands at the Junction of Georgia Highway 75 and Highway 17. The valleys were renamed, one for each of the fallen lovers. While you're up visiting at the cabins in Helen, GA stop and to pay respects.
