You're gonna love this place. With year-round view of Pea Porridge Pond and season views of mountains, it's a gorgeous, clean, well-maintained, family-oriented 3 bedroom chalet in the Eidelweiss district of Madison, NH, just minutes from North Conway and White Mountain National Forrest.
Getting to this high-altitude cabin is half the fun. You literally feel your ears popping from the altitude as you look out over Mount Chocura on the left and Pea Porridge Pond on the right. You know you're in the mountains.
Although you're in the heart of the white mountains, you won't need to leave behind all the creature comforts of home. The cabin comes fully equipped: air conditioning, high-speed Wifi access, a printer, wood-burning stove (in addition to regular heat), washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, range, TV with HBO, Netflix, and Amazon Prime and DVD/Blue Ray player, Keurig coffee maker, and a 2nd living room/den so the adults can enjoy some peace and quiet in the great room while the kids do their thing downstairs in the den (which can serves as the 4th bedroom). There is also a propane fire pit on the deck.
Once there, take a walk back down the hill to the beach at Pea Porridge Pond where, depending on the season, you can go swimming, kayaking (THE HOUSE COMES WITH TWO KAYAKS AND A PADDLE BOARD FOR YOUR UNLIMITED USE!), or ice skating (bring your own skates).
Also, there are enough nearby attractions to keep a family busy all summer. My favorite is the Kangamangus Highway, 5 minutes away, with its hiking/snowshoeing/cross country skiing trails, covered bridges, waterfalls, and scenic overlooks. You can also go downhill skiing at King Pine (15 minutes away), Cranmore (25 minutes), or Attitash/Bear Peak (30 minutes). Right down the road is a Saco River Canoe Company which leads tubing/kayaking/canoeing trips down the Swift River. Snowmobile rentals are nearby. There's even a year-round dogsledding place.
Lousy weather? Don't care for the outdoors? Go shopping at the factory outlets in North Conway (10 minutes away), go to the movies, or better yet, check out one the Mount Washington Valley's three theater companies. Or how about the railroad museum? Or Tours of Tuckerman's Brew Company?
Have little kids? Take 'em to Santa's Village or Storyland or even the MWV Children's Museum. Have older rambunctious kids who are tired of swimming? How about Monkey Trunks High Rope & Zipline Adventure Park, or take a ride on the Cog Railway, or drive the car up the Mount Washington Auto Road, or take the Snow Cat to the near-top in the winter. (Or believe it or not, hiking up the mountain is not as hard as you think.) Are there mini-golfers in the family? With three nearby mini-golf courses, the MWV is the veritable Hilton Head of min-golf.
The bottom line is that there is so much to do in this area, not even the most hard-to-please, pain-in-the-neck kids will be bored.
If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact me. I try to respond to all inquiries the same day. I couldn't be happier with this place and I am excited to have others have the opportunity to enjoy it as much as my family, friends, and I have. -Keith
