I can finally write Aloha without feeling like a dork!!
Kerry we had such a wonderful time at your home in Hawaii - how did you ever leave???!! It was a fantastically well appointed space and far exceeded our expectations. I couldn't believe how many towels you had - hehe! It was perfect. The most wonderful experience was showering outdoors - the weirdest most exhilarating experience for people from Canada that are used to being covered 24/7.
I wanna be Hawaiian when I grow up!! All of us were scanning the newspapers to see if we could find jobs there. The locals were fantastic. Just down the street we were taking to the people who owned the market and they heard we were from Canada. Turns out they visited the Rocky Mountains situated 2 hours from where we live! Small world. Can't say enough. about the locals - they were awesome!!
Really weird how some gas stations didn't have bathrooms. Another cool thing was how they served rice at Mcdonalds - being filipino it was very appreciated but odd nonetheless. LOVED LnL Drive Inn - food was fabulous. Favorite beach close to the house was Wamanea Beach (I think I spelled it right.......)
Took some getting used to the pace of life the locals had. I've already referred a couple of people to your house and I strongly discourage people from resorting it in Waikiki - this was definitely the way to go. We will absolutely book you again next time.
This was our first trip to hawaii and we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. Property was clean and cozy. Beds were comfy. We used the kayak and watched the sunrise each morning from our bed. The kids ran out each morning in pj's to play in their ocean back yard. Cottage neighbors are other residential homes, so location was nice and quiet. We had a wonderful private beach to swim in, gentle enough for the kids. Found a few fish swimming around. It was great. I would highly recommend this place for families. BBQ'd outside once, but got a bit too windy in the evening to use the fire pit. Locals told us summer winds are much calmer. Overall really great experience.
On the beach
Surrounding area is rural and quiet
Awesome shaved ice within walking distance
Stocked with most essentials (paper towel, toilet paper, towels, vacuum cleaner, cookware, utensils)
Has body boards but snorkel gear is broken
Beds are comfortable
All communication with the owner/manager was great
Not well kept. The railing on the porch and deck are falling apart and are a bit dangerous
Very dirty like yucky...the baseboards are gross and in the bathroom I never felt like I got clean because the shower smelled of mildew so badly
On a busy road
I would only recommend this beach cottage if you contacted the owner and made sure it would be clean before you arrive. I gave it a 4 star because the only downside (that I cared about) was the cleanliness.
First off we loved our time in Hawaii! This home is away from the hustle and bustle and yet close enough to the north shore that you're in close proximity to great snorkeling.
Our frustrations were that the pictures are very misleading. This home is in dire need of attention. We emailed the owner directly on two separate occasions (including all of the details below) while we were there, but never heard back. Before renting this home we had 3 others we were considering...we chose this one because our kids saw the loft area and thought it would be fun to have their own area...however, the loft isn't included in the rental and there's no access to it. If we had to do it over, we would not rent this home again.
First off the discrepancies in the listing...
- there's no DVD player as advertised
- the master bed is a queen size, not a king (it's comfy, but not what they advertised)
- there was no paddle board or sea kayak as advertised
- there were no lounge chairs as advertised
Now the condition items:
- the half bath toilet smells really bad and looks to have been actively leaking.
- the flooring near the entrance to the bunk room is broken as the home appears to have foundation problems. (There are lots of cracks along the interior walls)
- the shower walls are bubbling and the caulk coming lose
- the paneling walls in the bathroom are coming lose.
- the window seal has ( or had termites) and is falling apart
- The flooring at the base of the shower is rotted due to sustained exposure to water
- the island counter top is loose and moves with a slight nudge
- at least one of the cabinet doors is broken and out of alignment
- the outside deck is rotted with sheets of paneling being put down to remedy the worst areas. (At least one of those sheets is now breaking though)
- the sliding glass door doesn't lock and requires a dowel to keep it secure.
- the exterior of the home has lots of rotted wood and is in need of a paint job
- several of the Adirondack chairs are broken
I must say, as I have never rented a vacation home before, I was a bit nervous as to what we would walk into. We were very pleased with the home! It was just as shown in the photo's of the listing. It was a wonderful stay! My husband, two adult children and myself had a wonderful time. The house is right on the beach and we watched the sunrise each morning with our coffee. From the master bedroom you can hear the waves crashing. Our children ran every morning on the two way highway without incident. All the supplies we needed for cooking were supplied. We bought groceries from Foodland down the street about 15 minutes away. The towels provided for showers and the beach were heavy and better quality then most hotels we have stayed in. Having the washer/dryer made it easy to do laundry and leave the house just as we found it. The laundry soap and directions were there already! I would suggest you bring snorkel gear and fins for the ocean. Being on the North Shore most beach required fins. We drove to Matsumoto's for shaved ice three times as well as Ted's Bakery for hot and fresh donuts. For early dinners we visited the many food trucks off the highway. Having cash is best as some did not take a credit card. The nearest restaurant's were in the Polynesia Cultural Center area. Pounders was yummy. We made breakfast at the house and ventured out for the day making it back to use the beach in front of the house. We will be back!
Just want to thank you for an awesome vacation. It was truly great!! The house is definitely on the relaxed side of the island and really appreciated it after driving back from Honalulu one afternoon!!! I enjoyed the markets close to house and a couple of the resturaunts.
It was nice having a place to cook and do laundry and clean I know vacation isn't all that but it's what I like so I enjoyed it.
We did a few hikes Koko head stairs and Laie waterfalls! Omg it was awesome ,muddy and slick but so glad we did both of them. Lots of walks on the beach and. We accidentally came upon them filming Hawaii Five O at the blow hole. So cool!!! Tha boys did the Spartan Race and had a blast. We Loved the daily rain and lots of sun and always a breeze. It left us desiring to return!!! Thanks again. Or shall I say! 🌴 Mahalo
My husband and I spent 2 weeks here, with our families coming all the way from Europe. Kerry (the owner) and Billy (manager) were really pleasant and easy to work with. The house is a perfect beach home, in the most beautiful part of the island. We've been in Hawaii before, but only stayed in hotels and this house was a real treat for us - having everything that you need (just like home) and a perfect beach, right in the front of the house. Breakfast in the morning and dinner at the sunset, sipping coffee on the porch, right next to the ocean - what else you can ask for.
The beds were really comfortable. We had enough towels; there were some amazing books in the drawers, TV that we didn't turn on once (no need), AC available in each room, coffee machine, even a slow cooker (wow), washer, dryer, a lot of board games, toys for kids etc.
Once again, I want to thank Kerry for having us, and we will definitely come back.
Historic Haleiwa Town is a 30 minute drive up and through the North Shore, the most famous surfing destination in the world. Kualoa Ranch, the location of several Hollywood movies, is a scenic 15 minute drive down Kamehameha Highway, which runs along the ocean. Kualoa Ranch offers hiking, horse back riding and ATV tours throughout the year. Turtle Bay Resort and Spa is a 15 minute drive up the coast; here you will find two Champions Tour Golf Courses and a Five Star Spa. In addition, the Polynesian Cultural Center is located just five minutes from the house. Famous for its interactive educational exhibits as well as one of the best Luau’s on the island; it is a must see. If you prefer to stay close to home and go by foot, there are several breathtaking hiking trails to enjoy.
