Why Bunchie Engel chose Hope Town

We found the Halcyon House in June 2014 on a visit to the Abacos with family. We had made several visits to islands before and had always talked about one day buying a place of our own. A real estate booklet caught our eye over lunch, and next thing we knew, we were heading to Lubbers Quarters. Then, once we saw the house, we knew that it was meant to be. We closed in October 2014 and are happy to be sharing our wonderful new family getaway with you and yours!

What makes this house unique

Come see for yourself! Get away from the hustle and bustle, and enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of the west side of Lubbers! Kids will love the bright starfish, fish, and conchs in the clear waters as well as the curly tailed lizards and colorful birds. Find fabulous shells on local beaches. Adults - close the laptops and get out and go - or simply relax and unwind on the comfort of your deck with a good book or hit the dock with your fishing pole! Two double paddle boards and snorkel gear made available to renters as well!

Beautiful cottage and great location!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was every bit as nice as described on VRBO. House was clean, amenities as advertised, breathtaking views, and the dock was perfect for our boat rental. The location on Lubbers is central to explore so many a cays in the area. We had an amazing vacation! Highly recommend the Halcyon House!

Halcyon House Highlight of Trip

  • 5 of 5

Our family traveled to Halcyon House for one week The owners were great to work with, very informative, and recommended everything from taxi driver (ask for Jeff) to boat rental company (we used Rainbow)to places to see and dine. Halcyon is located convenient to a long public dock on the south west ide of Lubbers. The large wrap around decks offer plenty of space with stunning views of the Abacos facing west so Sunsets are a must. We grilled with the most beautful sunset over the water. There are two outdoor showers, one offering privacy. The home has a wonderful open floor plan and the windows maximize the western view. The kitchen was well equipped. Spices and utensils. Fridge with ice maker. Disposall. Two well appointed bedrooms upstairs with one and 1/2 baths. One bedroom down with full bath. TV with surround sound and many DVDs. Linens were good.

The house is beautiful and come home for the sunsets, but there is so much to do here. Renting a boat is a must. Our family enjoyed: Dining at Abacos Inn. We went so many times that we left a big stack of cups at the house. It has a beautiful view of both the Abacos Sea and the Atlantic. The grouper fingers are to die for.abacoinn.com/

Snorkeling at Pelican Cay Land and Marine Park.bnt.bs/_m1731/The-National-Parks-of-The-Bahamas/Pelican-Cays-Land-and-Sea-Park. If you go here watch the tides. Try and go at a slack tide if possible. And while you are that far south, be sure to visit Little Harbor and Pete's Pub. The mango grouper was great.

We snorkeled at Mermaid Reef near to Marsh Harbor, on the Lubbers barge and also up the north end of Guana Cay.

We ate at Cracker P's and Lubbers Landing (Island Burger). We also went to harbor side in Hope Town for good food.

Tilloo Pond-to see turtles but these turtles are very skittish.

Stunning house on beautiful island!

  • 5 of 5

This house is absolutely awesome. Modern design and furnishings - very comfortable and spacious. The separate full in-law suite on the bottom floor is great for guests or kids. The kitchen is fully functional and has everything you need! But the best part of the house is the beautiful view - be sure to budget time in your vacation to kick back on the front porch and relax while overlooking the gorgeous blue water. This house is the BEST location on the whole charming island, and you won't be sorry you rented it. Not to mention, the owners are very accommodating and easy to work with. Hurry, book now before the calendar fills up - you won't want to miss out on an opportunity to stay here! We loved it!

Awesome Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Halcyon House last year. The pictures are spot on and the owners very helpful and accommodating. The location is perfect for day trips to multiple Abacos locations via your boat and if that is your thing but is also great for just hanging around and relaxing with beautiful views. The kitchen was great for cooking some fresh Mahi we caught and the kids loved all the starfish and stingrays swimming around the dock. Will definitely be going back next year as the kids keep asking us to make another trip, assuming I can get the time off. We are a family of four with two teenagers but would be great for any age.

Halcyon Days Indeed

  • 5 of 5

This was my first time back to Abacos since 1989. Halcyon House was the perfect spot to hang out and relax on Lubbers, or set out on numerous day trips by boat.

We had all the key amenities, including great cooking equipment/spices for our freshly caught fish! Perfect floor plan and porches ideal for hanging with the family or finding a spot to relax, look out at water and read a book. One of my other favorite parts is the outdoor shower -- it was a treat to clean up after a day in the water and be able to look out into the Sea of Abaco as I dried off. My family and I cant wait to get back!

Found our new favorite house!!!

  • 5 of 5

....As I sit at my desk watching it rain I decided to revisit my happy place in my mind. We have been coming to the Abacos since 1999 and have stayed at a number of houses - one of the first things to impress me with this house was the little details that the owner thought of such as, beach hats, towels, bags and an umbrella right by the front door. I could have packed much lighter (I say that every year). There was a hairdryer there and the kitchen had numerous spices, coffee filters, trash bags and dish washing soap - all of which we had bought...so we paid it forward for the next guests. There were plenty of clean towels and the extra linens were a plus. The linens and comforters were of good quality and the house is beautifully decorated. The pictures are very representative but of course they don't compare to seeing it yourself! Would highly recommend this house - but please don't rent it for my favorite week until I can get my deposit for next year sent in!!!! Oh and the dock is very close to the house so you didn't have to lug your luggage very far.
