Welcome to La'Aloa Hale! The perfect location for individuals or couples in search of a tranquil environment. Close enough to be lulled to sleep when the surf is up yet tucked away from the bustle of Ali'i Drive.
The apartment is situated on a quiet street off Ali'i Drive and super close to Magic Sands Beach.
This exceptionally clean and nicely appointed vacation rental is a corner apartment on the ground floor of our home. You will enjoy the separate entrance and backyard with outdoor seating. Unlike many of the other spaces for rent on VRBO this is not a downstairs ohana or condo with people living above you. We want you to have a wonderful vacation so you can rest assured that we take great care of the space and our guests!
La'Aloa Hale boasts a spacious 650 square feet of open living space with available air conditioning. It is nicely furnished with luxury linens on a new comfy queen bed, large walk-in closet, comfortable loveseat, tropical dining area and kitchenette. The bathroom has a jetted tub with shower and double sinks.
You will be a short 5 minute walk from the ever popular Magic Sands Beach - also known as White Sands Beach and by the traditional Hawaiian name of La'Aloa which means “Very Sacred”. The Kanaka Maoli (ancient Hawaiians) were very much in touch with the natural energy of the earth and were well aware of the special nature of this area. Perhaps the dolphins and whales who still spend time playing in the waters just off the shore of Magic Sands Beach shared secrets with them. Regardless, it is the area where the Ali'i (Hawaiian Royalty) chose to make their homes, hence the name Ali'i Drive.
We are particularly lucky to have the remains of what is believed to be an ancient road running through our backyard. It was likely a well used path to travel from the ocean to the fertile farmlands up mauka (up the mountain). If you are lucky you might even see a Night Marcher! (ghost of an ancient Hawaiian warrior)

Our home is located off Ali'i Drive on La'Aloa Avenue in a peaceful residential neighborhood known as White Sands Estates. It is a wonderful resting spot for individuals or couples looking for a quiet retreat after a fun day of play.
After experimenting with living in different areas and at different elevations on the Kona side of the island this is our favorite place! Warm, dry and nearly always sunny!
Conveniently located near four popular beaches. It is a 5 minute walk to White Sands / Magic Sands Beach and 4 Mile. Magic Sands Beach features beautiful white sand, crystalline, turquoise water, and super fun boogie boarding. 4 Mile is a well-known scuba diving spot. World class surfing is 1 mile away at Lyman's Bay to the North and Kahaluu beach to the South. Kahaluu also offers easy access to honu (green sea turtles), spectacular snorkeling and beginning surf lessons.
Nearby Keauhou shopping center (2 miles away), has dining, shops, a grocery store, theater, live entertainment and a wonderful Saturday Farmers Market with local coffees, organic produce etc.
Kailua Village, the main tourist area, and the town of Kailua-Kona are 4 miles to the north.
The Kona airport is approximately 20 minutes from the house. A rental car is highly recommended for ease of transportation and sightseeing. However, we are only a few blocks from the public bus line and the sightseeing trolley picks up along Ali'i Drive.
The apartment is cleaned only upon departure. If you are staying for more than 7 days we require an additional cleaning of the suite and linens for a fee of $60.

At the same time, we are tucked up into the neighborhood just enough to be free from the noise and bustle of Ali'i drive. We had a great time staying at Paul's apartment. Magic Sands Beach is 5 minute walk and worth hanging out for a day. The apartment delivers what is advertised....We would highly recommend this place - Enjoy!
Comfortable, and private
The room is located in a home in a private residential neighborhood. The room is accessed through the carport and backyard. Beach towels, chairs and boogie boards are provided. It's a nice room, comfortable and quiet, Wonderful bedding, We both slept well! It was very clean except for the Jacuzzi tube, the tub filled with dirt and grime once the jets were turned on. We had Wi-Fi access but there was no TV as advertised. My wife and I both like to cook a few meals in and were disappointed with the kitchen. The only cooking appliances were a toaster and a small microwave, very few utensils. The refrigerator was very small (motel room size) and would not make ice. Overall it was very private and relaxing. Probably would not stay again because of the inability to cook a meal.
I am surprised to hear your stay was less than exceptional. As noted on the welcome literature in the apartment, I strive for a 5-Star experience for all my guests. And I ask they let me know, during their stay, if this is not the case I would do my very best to make any improvements possible. In response to your points:
When you told me about the tub jets I apologized and offered to clean it for you but you said it was not necessary. I also explained it was likely due to the fact that the previous guests stayed with me for over a month and did not use the jets. This led to a build up of sand that came out when you used the tub for the first time. After that you told me you enjoyed it.
In the property description under Entertainment it states “No TV available”
In the Kitchen description it says: “Kitchenette with compact refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffee maker - there is no stove top or oven for cooking”
Regarding ice: the temperature setting was likely too high. It could have easily been turned down to a lower setting.
I am sorry you did not thoroughly read the description before you decided to reserve the apartment. If you would have shared your feedback with me during your stay I would have done my best to work it out with you or offered a full refund for unused nights - my guests’ satisfaction is that important to me.
Based on the beautifully spacious living area, amenities offered and location, this apartment is an excellent value in Kona. The previous reviews confirm this. 6weeks in paradise
we stayed here from January16 to February 26, 2018. Very calm appartment, only 5 minutes walk to the marvelous Magic Sands Beach. The owner provided everything from beachtowels, sunshade, beachshoes, boogie bords to shampoo, body milk and houshold things. Paul was allways very firendly, our stay was very pleasant, thank you Paul.

This place is great! Excellent location! The owner is awesome. The apartment was fully stocked with everything we needed. The shower was the best thing ever! It is private and quiet! The bed is comfortable! I loved getting up and walking to the beach each morning. I would definitely stay here again! Also very, very clean and nicely decorated!

E Komo Mai – Welcome! We love our home and trust you will too. Check in time is 3:00pm Check out time is 11:00am This an easy going household with a few simple rules to be followed during your stay. Please leave shoes by the door. No smoking on the property. No candles left unattended. No children under 12. No pets. Quiet time is observed between 10pm and 6am. Please turn off the air conditioner when leaving for the day. We try to conserve energy for the sake of our planet whenever possible. The room can be cooled down again quickly if necessary when you return. After use, please return beach towels and gear to their places outdoors to avoid sand in the apartment. IMPORTANT - Please help us prevent any bug issues in this humid tropical environment. Ants are wonderful cleaners and will arrive on a new job site within a few hours. We prefer they do their work outside in the garbage can rather than on the counter! Remove trash often. Keep food in sealed containers or in the refrigerator. Upon departure, the kitchen should be free of food and the dirty dishes washed. We will be happy to put clean dishes away for you. Please let us know when you check out Mahalo nui loa!
