Relax on one of several porches and balconies where you'll always have a comfortable place to sit outside, regardless of the weather or the time of day. There's even a screened in porch on the first level! Avonlea is professionally decorated, has high ceilings, tall windows with plantation shutters, and solid pine floors throughout. Best of all, there are three king master suites, a queen suite, and a spacious bunk room. This home sleeps up to 12 in perfect comfort!

FIRST FLOOR: If you need a first floor living/dining/kitchen with a bedroom and full bath on the same floor, look no further. Our living room is beautifully furnished with plush sofa, loveseat, and a large flat-screen TV. The dining area is convenient to both the living room and kitchen, where you'll enjoy our brand new stainless appliance package. Both the fully equipped kitchen and the lovely queen bedroom suite (Bedroom 1) have private access to our furnished screened porch. You may never want to leave the first floor!

SECOND FLOOR: Bedroom 2 and 3 are both king master suites, each with its own full bath. Bedroom 2 opens to a private balcony overlooking a serene, wooded preservation. Bedroom 3 has easy access to another balcony overlooking beautiful Coast Cottage Lane. Both bedrooms are exquisitely furnished with high quality bedding, linens and flat-screened TV's.

THIRD FLOOR: Bedroom 4 is yet another king master suite with full bath and access to our magnificent rooftop deck ... more about that later. Bedroom 5 features two sets of quality bunk beds, plenty of floor space, and a full bath ... perfect for the kiddos! All bedrooms are equipped with luxury furnishings and flat-screened TV's.

Your visit to Avonlea Cottage will not be complete until you visit our spectacular rooftop deck. Look to the north for beautiful marsh views, or to the east for stunning ocean views. Beautiful home in a wonderful vacation location.

Avonlea Cottage accommodated our family 's stay in lovely fashion. The home is professionally decorated and beautifully appointed. Each bedroom having its own bath was a big plus for us since we were dressing simultaneously for wedding events. The roof top deck is a great place to enjoy your morning coffee. It's a short walk to the pool area and St Simon's Beach was so enjoyable for the entire family.

Large house accommodated 4 families with ease

With 5 large bedrooms, each with full baths, this house was very comfortable for all 12 of our group (grandchildren had 2 bunk beds; all others had private large beds). The AC was wonderful, even on the top floor. The kitchen and all the accommodations suited us completely. The location near the beach, with available pool and St Simon's East beach access made it a desirable house and a bargain compared to the hotel down the street. Property manager was very responsive to our questions. We will use this facility at our next opportunity.

THE property for a large family vacation!

I wanted to take my adult children and grandchildren on a week long beach vacation. I was having difficulty finding the “perfect” accommodations as fully functional 5 bedroom rentals were hard to find. I had worked with Patrick Anderson on a previous vacation and contacted him again as he has the “pulse” of the island!

We had a diverse group and all found their niche places.

The under nine group was pleased to have a real room with four bunk beds AND an entertainment center of their own. I am not a fan of parking children in front of a a TV but it sure was nice after a day at the beach to have them pile into their own space and leave the living room for the adults.

Our teenage grandson usually has to find a sofa and he was delighted with his own room.

The bedroom on the ground floor has easy access to the kitchen, dining area and living room and porch (one of many). This space would be perfect for grand parents but in our case was perfect for a disabled son-in-law who would have trouble with stairs.

All of the rooms were large, all had their own TV, all had a porch and all had generous baths. All the rooms and shared spaces were delightfully decorated in “sherbet” colors and with very nice and whimsical coast paintings and folk art.

So the basics of sleep and fellowship are covered very nicely for 3 families and their children. The kitchen had everything we needed and then some. This property is freshly appointed and WELL maintained!

I place a lot of value on the ambience of my lodgings. I was delighted with the new furnishings, paintings, knickknacks and such. Everything is light and VERY beachy and tasteful. I hate going to a beach context and finding that the decor is something that does not add to the experience.

Yes, the house is almost at the end of the street. We are still only talking a 1 minute walk to the pool complex, pavilion and beach boardwalk. This WAS NOT a problem - in fact it was quieter than being near the pool and all the foot traffic coming and going.

The owners provided a wagon and plenty of beach chairs and beach towels. There are two pools and a nice shady pavilion that catches the strong sea breezes. The boardwalk leads to the best of the East Beach. You can even walk to several of the seafood restaurants.

I must mention Patrick Anderson who is the agent. He will be your partner to iron out any loose ends! I like that grounds services are restricted to the check-in and check-out time.

Winter getaway

We decided on short notice to invite some friends to join us in St. Simons to get a break from the winter weather. What a great idea! St. Simons didn't disapoint with sunny days and temps in the upper fifties and low sixties one day.

We have been to St. Simons on several occasions and had stayed at Avonlea before as well. We were surprised to see that Avonlea had been redecorated with new living room furniture, a new large screen TV, all new stainless steel appliances, etc. She is just as charming as ever. Our friends thoroughly enjoyed their accommodations.

We saw some new sights, met nice people on the beach, enjoyed the Village and the shops, and found a new restaurant and bar.

St. Simons Island is sometimes described as a little piece of paradise. Scarcely known outside Georgia, it is quite possibly the best kept secret along the coastal Southeast. The island's majestic entrance over miles of unspoiled marshland was memorialized by Sidney Lanier in his poem The Marshes of Glynn. It's a place where an unpretentious low country meets the great ocean ... where huge tidal changes breathe life into the grassy expanse flourishing in wildlife. Somewhere in between you will discover the magic of St. Simons Island. Upon arrival, visitors are enveloped by a feeling of calm amidst ancient moss-draped oaks standing alongside glorious palms and tall southern pines. Many miles of bike paths connect a variety of shopping, eating, cultural and recreational areas within the island. There's always something fun and interesting to do. The beach at St. Simons Island is like no other. As the 7-foot tide shifts from high to low, it pulls the shoreline 1/2 mile out to sea uncovering a breathtaking system sandbars and shoals. Development is largely unseen along the north end of the beach where an abundant shrub forest has been protected and allowed to expand naturally. Acres of young dune fields nurture sensitive Sea Oats while thousands of shore birds migrate from one sand bar to the next with the receding tide. The owners and guests of Coast Cottages at St. Simons cherish their unrestricted view and enjoyment of this ecological wonderland.

Kayak through the marsh streams, walk the beach, eat at many great restaurants, climb the lighthouse, golf, tennis, miniature golf, small skate board park, go shopping at many quaint shops, go antique hunting, tour Fort Frederica, tour the Old Coast Guard Station (right next door to Coast Cottages), walk the sandbars at low tide, go skim boarding along the shoreline, take a trolley tour of the island, hang out at the Coast Cottages pool, go to a water park on Jekyll Island, take paddle board lessons, go crabbing or fishing right off the pier.
