Please note: During the non-ski months (typically Apr- Nov) SLOPESIDE is operated as THE SCRAP NEST, a scrapbooking and crafting retreat.
Slopeside was custom built for us in 2014. It sleeps 14 in 5 bedrooms (10 beds), with 4 ½ baths and over 3,000 sq. ft. of mountain style luxury. Nestled amongst the trees on one of the highest lots at Massanutten, Slopeside provides an amazing degree of privacy despite backing to the ski slopes (less than a 5 minute (1/4 mile) walk). Includes a paved driveway (2017) and two private off street parking spots. 5-6 cars total.
You enter the home through the “Mountain Room” which provides a comfortable place to sit and remove your jackets, ski boots and to store outdoor gear. From the Mountain Room, you will enter into the Great Room with its 20’ high wooden cathedral ceiling, exposed beams and hand-scraped hickory floor. The seating area has a large stone fireplace with a gas fireplace. Settle into one of the leather couches and load a DVD to watch your favorite movie on the 46” HDTV. We have over 220 channels on cable plus hi-speed Wi-Fi. Games, books and movies are also available.
The dining area features a custom built 12’ long farmhouse table made from century-old reclaimed white oak. The table seats 14 comfortably, enabling everyone to enjoy meals together. The spacious kitchen features an open-beamed wood ceiling, rustic hickory cabinets and granite countertops with a tile backsplash. Well lit and fully equipped, the kitchen has ample cookware and utensils to support a large family. The appliances include a smooth top range, side by side refrigerator, Keurig machine, blender and other small appliances. Two of the five bedrooms, “Aspen” and “Vail”, are located on the main level, both with beamed wooden ceilings and furnished with Queen and Twin wrought iron beds. A full bath (connecting to the Vail bedroom) and a powder room are located on this level.
Above the kitchen is the loft, which provides a perfect spot to relax in the comfortable recliner and read a favorite book from the well-stocked bookcase. The “Alta” room is the romantic cathedral ceilinged master suite tucked away on this upper level. Alta contains a Queen sized four poster bed, a wrought iron twin day bed, ceiling fan, 40” HDTV, DVD player and another recliner. Alta’s en-suite bath has a claw foot Victorian tub, a separate shower, a granite double sink vanity and oil rubbed bronze fixtures.
The lower level contains a large wood ceilinged recreation room with a large sectional couch, foosball table, 60” HDTV, X-box 360, and Wii. Along the wall is a granite wet bar with a beverage fridge and a Keurig machine. Two bedrooms and two baths (one full, one 3/4) are also located on this level. The “Stowe” bedroom has twin beds while the “Whistler” bedroom has a wrought iron Queen bed, a wrought iron twin bed and its own private full bath. A laundry room with a full-size washer and dryer and a utility sink complete this level.

We rent to families/family groups, no youth groups, fraternities etc. The Principal Renter must be age 30 or over, no smoking, absolutely no pets. We try to be flexible with early check in and late check outs but it depends upon the rental schedule and our cleaners' workload (also, our cleaners do not work on Sundays, so we generally can't accommodate Sunday check-ins). We utilize the E-Rental Lock system. Prior to check in, a specific code will be e-mailed to you that will provide access to the home for specific dates and times. Please send a rental inquiry that includes a phone number and a short description of your party. This information is required as there are numerous scammers using VRBO and we need to confirm that your inquiry is legitimate. We will respond promptly to all serious inquiries and we welcome your questions about the home and/or Massanutten.

Why Michelle and Todd Parker chose Massanutten
We had always dreamed of owning a ski house in the Rockies, but after settling in Northern Virginia, we came to realize how impractical that would be. A couple of years ago, when our kids began skiing, we discovered Massanutten. Only a little over two hours from the DC Beltway it was very easy to get to and there was so much for the kids to do, that we decided it would be a great spot for a weekend home. We couldn't find any existing homes for sale that fit our vision of a ski house (and that had a big open room for her scrapbooking events). So we bought a lot, found a great builder and designed the home ourselves. Quite a few people questioned how anyone could build a home 'there'. But, a little over a year later after some extensive engineering, pouring a 16 foot high foundation wall and working from some very tall scaffolding, 'Slopeside' was completed. We hope you enjoy the home and Massanutten as much as we do.
What makes this Chalet unique
Despite backing to the slopes, the home is very private with open space to the rear and both sides. Neighbors are definitely not a problem at Slopeside. We designed the home to be rustic, but not rough. The home sleeps 14, so we had a dining room table built to seat 14 and we stocked the kitchen with enough tableware and kitchen gadgets for everyone. Its great to be able to walk to or from the slopes in 5 minutes. No parking hassles at the lodge or waiting for everyone in your group in order to drive home. The lifts run until 10:00 or 11:00 PM so if someone wants to enjoy the après-ski activities at the lodge, they can just ride chair #4 home. Likewise in the summer, you can walk down the ski slope to watch the fireworks or attend one of the concerts or festivals. The home is a perfect jumping off point for hiking or mountain biking, as the Massanutten Peak trail begins only 100 yards up the road.

Beautiful lodge right on the slopes
I stayed here for a family reunion the second weekend in February and it did not disappoint! Michelle and Todd were very easy to work with and answered any questions I had leading up to our stay.
There are plenty of activities to do in this house ranging from air hockey and Foosball, to reading and watching movies from their extensive library. The kitchen was the best part of the house! We cooked four meals during our stay that fed over 10 of us and they had all the equipment to do so.
Will definitely stay here again!
Quintessential Ski Lodge
We spent a February weekend at Slopeside with our group of 14, consisting of three families, with kids ranging from age 6 - 14. We were looking for a comfortable home where there was room for all of us, and entertainment options for the kids and adults. Slopeside had all of this and more. Not only did it have all the bedrooms and bathrooms that we needed, but the layout of the home was perfect to allow the kids (and adults!) to enjoy the games on the lower level, while the adults who wanted a quieter evening could relax near the fireplace on the main level. Each family had the privacy needed in the bedrooms areas, while the common areas were spacious enough to allow us to hang out together (including an extra long dining table). The kitchen was well stocked with cookware and dishes for our crowd, and all of the basic amenities needed. The home was spotlessly clean, and beautifully decorated - just the environment you hope for in a ski lodge! The location was also perfect, just a few minutes drive to the Massanutten ski resort (you could also take a 5-10 minute walk to ski down to the lodge, but with the kids in our group, we opted to drive). After a long day of skiing, we really enjoyed coming home to the beauty and comfort of Slopeside.
Cozy Family Get Away!
My husband and I rented the chalet for a weekend get away with our 2 daughters and their families. The weather was a bit gloomy and dismal when we arrived, and since we were the first ones there, we turned on the fireplace so that when the children arrived they would feel the warmth and coziness. They all loved the beautifully decorated house as soon as they entered the living area. We could see the slopes from the back of the house, and they couldn't wait to don their skis the next day. There was plenty to do that evening from playing air hockey to putting together puzzles to watching one of the videos from the extensive library. I actually started reading Summer Sisters from the collection of books in the house. The best part is that there was a completely equipped kitchen and plenty of space for all of us to eat together at the large dining room table. There were so many convenient things to do at the resort that it was sometimes hard to figure out what to do next. The kids (6 of them!) want to come back to enjoy the same house in the summer or fall. The only thing amiss was the loose faucet in the kitchen. Other than that everything was neat, clean, and inviting. Couldn't ask for more.
So happy to hear that you and your family enjoyed your stay. And thank you for notifying us about the faucet, it has been repaired.
This is a third year renting a cabin. We went with Slopeside this year to change things up and it was great. The dining room table was amazing. Perfect location for snowboarding. The kids loved the air hockey table and my wife and I both loved the kitchen. The view from the back deck was excellent. Looking forward to booking this cabin again !
Slopeside Feb 2017
This is the nicest place we've rented in Massanutten and the views are spectacular! Slept all the adults and kids comfortably. There was plenty of entertainment (movies, game system, air hockey, foosball) for the kids, as well. Highly recommend!
We had a great family trip. The home is beautiful and was perfect for our three generations.
After renting several homes over the years for our annual family ski trip, we can honestly say this was the cleanest, best designed, prettiest, and most relaxing home we have visited. The owners, Todd and Michelle, were very prompt and answered all our questions. Mr. Dearing, their home manager, was very responsive.
The home is beautifully decorated and the floor plan was ideal for our three children, their spouses, and six grandchildren. We especially loved the dining table which seated all 14 of us comfortably and allowed for multiple large board games simultaneously.
The Mountain Room is a wonderful design and an added benefit for all ages. The kitchen is open to the great room and is very well stocked with a complete set of cookware, bakeware, and small appliances for preparing meals for a large group.
Having attached bathrooms for three bedrooms and another complete bath for a fourth bedroom is ideal for us.
Thank you for sharing your home with us. We would love to come back.
