Our property is adjacent to the Betsie Valley Trail. Biking or walking to Beulah is 1.4 miles and to Frankfort is a pleasant 8 miles. We are close to Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa, Frankfort Lighthouse & Beach, Riverside Canoe and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Come and see this and more, there is so much to enjoy. Crystal Lake will tug at your heart. There is a reason our family has had renters who have come every year for 20+ years; this is summer as it was meant to be.

About Stephanie Lipson

This property is part of land that has been in the family since the Civil War! We have come up every summer to Crystal Lake and eventually built our own home here on the Family Compound. Our kids have spent their summers here since they were born. It is a magical place where summer can be shared with your loved ones! Our eldest daughter just had her wedding at the lake. Well, it was actually ON the lake as the wedding took place on a platform in the water just off the beach. Maybe you saw the picture on ESPN? It was broadcast during the Little League World Series that our son was playing in for the Taney Dragons. He was transported back to this house on the lake by special permission of the league between games as he was in his sister's wedding. We only rent this, our main house, during select times as we typically stay all summer but with traveling baseball taking over the summer for us our loss is your gain!

Stephanie Lipson purchased this house in 1994

Why Stephanie Lipson chose Northwest

It's a great house. We designed and built it in 1994 to be our dream vacation home with so many custom amenities. It has top grade furnishings and designer linens. We furnished it with love and had a lot of fun with upgrading the one-time garage to kid heaven. I hope you love it as much as we do...

Family Vacation June 2017

  • 4 of 5

Our family enjoyed a week of great memories in this Crystal Lake home. Perfect for our grands for kayaking, playing on beach a lot, corn hole, campfires, many bike rides. The bunk room was perfect..Complete with a tv for rainy day... Lots or room so that no one was crowded. Large kitchen which worked well. Our only complaint which may be minor for many would be no shades on windows...Kids woke earlier than normal...We brought 3 fans for white noise as well. Beautiful hard wood floors throughout however it was echoey. Aside from this we had a wonderful week. Our grandkids had the time of their life. Highly recommend this home!

Absolutely lovely!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in the two houses we rented next to each other for our large family. The property was as described and even better. It was clean and well maintained and plenty of space. The owners were congenial and provided excellent service. We especially enjoyed the outdoor space with the large lawn for games, hanging out and family time. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone. It was a great time had by all.

Elegant & peaceful stay in a beautiful family home

  • 5 of 5

Wow, I wish we never had to leave. This house is clearly the prize property around the lake neighborhood, elegant front appearance with nice plantings and a curved drive - but it's the inside and the lakeside that really shine!!

The house backs right onto the lake down a long lawn and has a dock and a cool shared firepit area where we made s'mores in the evenings. Great quality bedding, linens, and appliance stocked kitchen which is open to the sitting room and looks out onto the lake. Plus a nice deck where we ate a lot of our meals.

There was plenty of space for everybody whether they wanted to nap upstairs, hang out on the little beach, deck or in the water, or be sociable in the sitting rooms -- we all usually ended up in the kitchen. There was tons of light, high ceilings and glass doors.

This is obviously a well cared for, well loved family home that we were lucky enough to experience for a week. The area is family oriented, there is plenty to do, galleries etc in town or just kick back and relax, good for anyone looking for a quiet and really pleasant stay in elegant clean surroundings. This house is the pick of the lake and we'll be back as soon as we can. Thank you!

Summer Ideal

  • 5 of 5

This ideal summer home was perfect for our family of six. We felt as though we were coming to our own summer place....clean and warm and welcoming. Kitchen was sparkling, the great room with fireplace and forever views....charming! We especially enjoyed the beautiful lawn leading to the lake. My special getaway spot was the balcony outside the master bedroom! We will return!!!

Highly disappointing!

  • 2 of 5

We were very excited for this vacation! We chose this house because of the location and mostly because our 5 kids were very excited to sleep in the bunk bed room. Although stated in the home description it was a converted garage, the only conversion was laying some carpet. It was still very much a garage and smelled musty. Most of the kids didn't want to sleep in there, which was a shame, as that was one of the primary reasons we selected this home. Cleanliness was a big issue. Upon removing our shoes and entering the front door, we stepped on to sand filled, dirty floors. No doormats in sight. The kitchen cabinet housing the trashcans was covered in grime, and the utensil/kitchen supplies were dated and unsanitary. The pans had teflon pealing off, and we repeatedly were picking it off our food. The family room smelled strongly of urine, which was only made worse by the broken sliding door that did not open and was labeled "DO NOT USE!". What a shame not to be able to sit in the family room and enjoy the fresh evening air and sound of the water. Privacy and comfort were also big issues. There were only white sheer window coverings on the bedroom windows. So every morning we were up with the sun. And there were NO coverings what-so-ever in the master bath window which overlooked a very busy walking/hiking trail and the neighbors house. The mattresses were cheap and rock hard, and the pillows were flimsier than those on an airplane. The dock and fire pit were fabulous, but not exclusively for us. We were not told that the neighboring property would also have access to both. The only reason for the 2 stars is the view and location. As the owner of a vacation house in Florida, I understand that the cleaning crews can sometimes be unreliable. Had the price been representative of the state of the house, I wouldn't be complaining about anything. But being one of the most expensive rental properties on this site and on Crystal Lake, I expected a whole lot more. There are many other houses along the same street and neighboring streets that are newer or recently renovated for a lot less money. I don't believe the asking price is a good representation of the condition of the house. There was never any attempt to contact us during our stay, but we heard from the owner after posting a review. And though she offered to talk it through or give us money back, we decided that others should know about our experience to make an informed decision.

Owner's Response: How sad that this family could not have good time in a $1 million+ house on 850 ft of prime beach front. As the "owner of vacation house in Florida" I assume they would know to read the listing and view the pictures before renting. There are 850 ft of shared amazing beach front spaces to enjoy. And they didn't want to share all that space with a handful of other families? Additionally, my name, email and cell phone is listed in no less than 10 places in VRBO to call or email any time if there are any issues at all. I received no communication from this family during their stay. I would have been more than happy to send the cleaning service back immediately upon their request to tidy up any areas that needed attention. Clearly either this family or another guest let in an unauthorized pet hence the smell. Again, I would have been happy to address. The room has now been steam cleaned. As for unsanitary utensils/kitchen supplies I think the fry pans were the only issue as they had been very badly used and cut into by this family or other renters. They have been replaced. Our utensils are silver and our kitchen supplies are top quality. They include extra amenities like Nutrabullet, ice cream maker & lots of baking supplies because this is our own home (not just a rental). The sliding glass door is huge and very heavy so for safety reasons we thought it was best to leave it locked. It is not broken. There is an entire bank of windows just 2 feet from the door to open if a breeze would have been welcome! All our furnishings and window treatments are top quality as you can see from the pictures in the listing, and the house is only 20 years old. Just last year for our daughter's wedding on the lake we had the roof redone, all siding re-stained, the deck re-done and added 2 brand new patio sets. The house was also entirely re-painted inside. The mattresses are firm - that is what top quality mattresses are! They were very expensive. The pillows are all Laura Ashley 100% white goose down pillows. Again, top of the line. All bedding is designer - Ralph Lauren, Laura Ashley or Tommy Hilfiger. I guess this family does not know what top quality bedding is if they though it was cheap. I contacted them immediately after receiving notice of their dissatisfaction. Apparently that was a bad thing? As this house was more expensive (being the largest, most private w/the most visual frontage) it rents for more. But if they were unhappy I offered a refund. They said no.
