Rodanthe House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroom, 2 bath, open floor plan, short walk to the beach and Sound

Welcome to our home away from home! The “Blue Beach House,” as we typically refer to it, is located oceanside in the quiet village of Salvo on Hatteras Island.

This painstakingly maintained home boasts a bright and spacious open concept layout, featuring an extra-large living area, a recently renovated, fully-stocked kitchen, and a dining area with a large, trestle table with benches, as well as three barstools at the counter. A screened porch, sun deck and large lawn with a charcoal grill provide great outdoor space for everyone, and the three bedrooms, all with TVs, provide ample opportunity for quiet escapes.

The house is a block away from beach access, which means a six-minute walk to some of the East Coast’s most pristine and least populated beaches. A 4-minute walk in the other direction puts you on a boardwalk that stretches into Pamlico Sound, a magical spot to view some of the most glorious sunsets you will ever experience.

This area is world-famous for a variety of outdoor activities. Surfers, kite boarders, wind surfers and fisherman, not to mention those that just want to relax on a quiet beach, will all find ideal locations minutes from the house. For our fishing guests, the house includes an outdoor fish cleaning table with running water, right next to our charcoal grill. Surfers can easily store their gear in racks under the house. Public access to the most popular spots for all these activities is either a short walk or a 5-minute drive away. Equipment for any of these activities, as well as sea kayaks, jet skis and bikes, is available for rent just up the road.

The house is also centrally located to the endless variety of sites and activities the Outer Banks offers. Everything from golf, outlet shopping, parasailing, historical sights, nature viewing and hiking trails and an overwhelming choice of restaurants can be had, going north or south along the island. Nobody could ever claim to be bored!

This family friendly house has a porta-crib, a high chair, and a baby gate on the deck, as well as board games, puzzles and a small library of children’s books.

We recycle! Please take advantage of the large bin for co-mingled recycling.

We hope you enjoy our home, and this wonderful area, as much as our family has for the last 28 years!

About Jeff Jones

Although we are life-long Maryland residents, we have considered the coast of North Carolina our second home for all of our adult lives. Beth has been coming here with her family since she was a kid, and shortly before we got married her parents bought the land, and then had the house built in 1986. As the second generation of owners, we have been blessed with a place our three children have always known and cherished. Since we depend on rent to keep the house, we have to limit our own visits to a week or two every summer for fun, and then the week at each end of the season for maintenance and repair. These times are gold for our family, and make every headache of long-distance ownership worthwhile. Our goal for this house has always been to provide this refuge and freedom for our kids, and at the same time to share it with people who are just getting to know the Outer Banks, or who have already found this quiet spot to be one of the most relaxing and rejuvenating places on the East Coast. We hope you enjoy it!

Why Jeff Jones chose Hatteras Island

When we bought this property we had no idea how lucky a choice it was. Located in Salvo, we are minutes away from anything we might need. I've spent an entire, relaxing week there without driving more than 5 miles for groceries or a good meal. On the other hand, with Nags Head, Kitty Hawk and Manteo a half hour drive north, and Avon and Hatteras 20 minutes to the south, there are endless activities for every age and group size a short, uncongested drive away. These days I tend to relax on the porch with my wife, while the kids drive all over creation finding fun things to do. Unless they are going to go mini golfing, at which point I'm going, too.

What makes this house unique

Our house can quickly be described as a 'Carolina Beach Box,' but that does not do this home justice. Renovations in the 90's enlarged the family room, almost doubling it's size, providing ample space for TV viewing, book reading, and games, puzzles or food on a table all at the same time. The kitchen and both bathrooms were just renovated a couple of years ago, getting rid of the 80's flooring and cabinets. The extra large grassy lot also provides an unusually large space for outdoor fun within earshot of the relaxing porches. And we have always taken great pride in keeping the house clean, well-furnished and well stocked. Most visitors think the house is just a few years old, not 30!

Great property in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved Hatrask Haven and had a very relaxing and peaceful time there. The cottage was well stocked with the items we needed and clean. We spent a lot of time at the beach and also visited Kitty Hawk and the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station. Hope to go back someday.

Good for family

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a week and it was a nice and quiet neighborhood. It was a short walk to the beach and the best part was the outdoor shower! It was close to the beach (perfect for watching the sunrise) and right across the street from the sound (perfect for watching the sunset). I would recommend this place to families or friends for a beach getaway. Dishes, utensils, towels, containers, baking pans, and soap are available if you accidentally forgot something. However, we were told that the manager would come and welcome us during our stay but we didn't see him or had him contact us. We tried calling, with no response back. Luckily, we didn't run into any difficulties.

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

I rented this house for two weeks while working in the area. It was clean and quiet. The house is somewhat secluded by a ring of trees. The beach is an easy short walk. There is a Dollar Style Store very close stocked with plenty of the essentials. Food lion is just a short drive down the beach. Roughly 10 to 12 miles. Internet and cable worked great. The best is the owner. A really easy person to work with and will bend over backwards to meet your needs. I have to work in the OBX every three years and if it is still available will be sure to stay here again.

Great place for your family

  • 4 of 5

We visited OBX with our family for the first time and the house was perfect for us (seven people). The walk to the beach was only a few minutes away and the outdoor shower was great to wash off salt and sand before going indoors. We would definitely recommend this home to others looking for a quiet place to stay in the Outer Banks area.

Perfect Salvo Stay

  • 5 of 5

Having grown up on the Outer Banks, we were a bit hesitant to book an unfamiliar rental for our vacation (we live in California now). Fortunately, Hatrask Haven both met and exceeded all expectations. Not only was Jeff responsive and extremely helpful with booking details and answers to our questions online, but his property truly delivered. Hatrask Haven is only a block from a public beach access (one of the widest beaches on the OBX) and the house is clean and roomy. The screened-in porch is well maintained, thus allowing you to open the doors and windows for that wonderful beach breeze. We rarely had to use the AC. Linens and towels were provided and in good condition. The kitchen had all necessary utensils and appliances and all were in good working condition. The wireless service was easy to use and maintained a strong signal. This is a great property. The living room is spacious and inviting, with vaulted ceiling and clean carpet. We enjoyed our stay so much that we extended for a second week. Thanks again Hatrask Haven. We highly recommend!

Easy place to enjoy

  • 5 of 5

The layout of the house is simple, efficient and comfortable. The decorations are tasteful and thoughtful and the carpets clean. The grounds are well taken care of and are private. It has 2 porches, one screened and the other open. The few times when the bugs were bad, the screened in porch was welcomed.

The owner and the maintenance person were friendly and easy to deal with.

I will recommend this house to my friends.
