Overview

About the property

Seven Magical Acres of Lake-Front Heaven!

MONKEY HOUSE, NAMED AFTER MY DOG MONKEY, INVITES YOU TO CHERISH YOUR TIME AT HIS NAMESAKE HOME, WITH THE FAMILY YOU LOVE, FRIENDS YOU CHERISH, AND RECONNECT WITH THEM ALL.. INCLUDING YOUR FURRY FAMILY... WE ESPECIALLY LOVE AND WELCOME PITBULLS, THE MOST LOVING, GENTLE AND MISUNDERSTOOD BREED... NO TRYING TO PASS YOUR PITTY OFF AS A "BOXER" OR A 'MUTT" :)

A truly majestic setting, it's hard to describe or show ipn pictures the awe-inspiring natural beauty of this unique home on 7 acres and a private lake with 340 ft. of shoreline.

Monkey house features three bedrooms, an upstairs loft, and three bathrooms - two with soaking tubs, one with sauna jets. The kitchen is outstanding! Rustic rock walls, a six-burner Chef's stove complete with a restaurant-sized griddle, and a bakers delight bonus room for convection oven baking. This kitchen is suitable for large parties as the open floor plan flows into the dining and living rooms, and there is a wrap-around deck that overlooks Pearl Lake.

There are three stories: On the first level there are two bedrooms, both with Queen beds, and a shared Jack and Jill bathroom with doors to close off shower/bath area. The second level has a fantastic master bedroom with a California King-sized bed and French doors leading to a deck with pristine lake views. The master bath has a wonderful jacuzzi tub and walk-in closet. The kitchen, dining and living rooms are located on this level. The living room features a three-sided, extra-comfy sectional couch that folds out into an additional Queen-sized bed. There is a rustic wood-burning stove that can easily heat the entire second level. A half-bath is on this level as well as a separate, private deck overlooking the front yard from the living room. The sunlit loft is located at the top of a spiral staircase. It has two single beds with room for sleeping bags and cots.

This home is a dog haven!

There are large, fenced dog areas off the back deck and a wooden dog house (although mine would never dream of sleeping outside). You can have your canines fenced with access into the house, or you can have them enclosed in the dog yard.

From the wrap-around deck you’ll have a full view of the lake. As you gaze down on the water while swaying firs and pines canopy above you, you will experience solitude and serenity. Walk straight down the stairs and onto a carpet of lush grass that ends at your own private lake inlet. Perfect for you, kids, and dogs. Swim out to the lake’s island, or grab the canoe or rowboat and go fishing or exploring. The gazebo nestled at the lake’s edge offers a most ideal setting for weddings and ceremonies, with a red bridge over the lake inlet as a walkway for picturesque moments!

Also lakeside is an outdoor kitchen, fully equipped for large feasts with a stove and BBQ grill, commercial sink, fish cleaning station and fire pit for night time marshmallow roasts. Under the outdoor kitchen’s covered pavilion you’ll find ceiling fans, a sound system, and multiple picnic tables and chairs. Alongside the pavilion is an outdoor bathroom.

This is a YEAR-ROUND fishing destination, beginner - advanced! It's also a great base-camp for hikes into the Trinity Alps Wilderness. Our caretaker is also a fisherman so if you have any questions, please ask!

• FALL: Some of the best salmon fishing in California can be found on the Trinity River. King Salmon can be caught from the banks with simple spinner and spoon lures (5 minute drive).

• WINTER: Steelhead run in Trinity River (5 minute drive). Trout can be caught on the surfaces of Trinity and Lewiston Lakes (approximately 30 miles east).

• SPRING: Bass spawn in Pearl Lake (in our backyard). Spring-Run Salmon in Trinity River (5 minute drive).

• SUMMER: Bass and bluegill feed on the surface of Pearl Lake (in our backyard). Perfect for a child's first catch! Hike-in trout fishing in the Trinity Alps Wilderness.

• The most popular entry point into the Trinity Alps Wilderness is the Canyon Creek Trailhead. I'ts located in Junction City just across the river from us, about a 30 minute drive.

• Weaverville, founded in 1850 and a historic Gold Rush town, is only a 15 minute drive away.

One stay at Monkey House and you’ll be counting the days until you return!PETS:

Guestbook comments from the owner

One of a kind stay. Kids and dogs swam all day and slept all night! My teenageers even said it was "Cool." Skip the organic market in town; its overpriced and not the freshest food. Weaverville was cute. Make sure you get to the falls!! Incrediible

Very enjoyable

  • 4 of 5

The property was amazing and the location was gorgeous. The house had good air conditioning and was well stocked with kitchen amenities. The only complaint to be had was that the Wi-Fi did not work however an outdoor kitchen alongside a lake easily makes you forget about that. If you are a group traveling in summer it should be noted that the water temperature rises to the point where lots of plant growth occurs in the lake.

Absolutely beautiful!!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely time, rowing, swimming, and fishing. The grandkids were thrilled with the area and and enjoyed the time immensely. My dog thought he died and went to heaven. So much freedom for him. Spearmint grows wild in both meadows and as you walk through it the aroma is divine!! Thoroughly enjoyed every moment!

Incredible weekend!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Monkey House with a small group of friends and a couple of our furry "kids" The house was huge and we had enough room to be together, and also have our own space. The lake was fantastic and although a little too cold for us at this time of year, the dogs F ing loved it! Caught more fish than we could cook so started doing catch and release! Felt private and really had a chance to unwind... tired dogs on the the way home.. only wish we could have stayed longer!! :(

A home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Had a lovely stay with my husband. Took our 4 dogs up from the bay area and was very happy just hanging around the house and swimming in the lake. Owner was very receptive to our needs and very polite. Will come back soon!

Sad

  • 1 of 5

Our group very much enjoyed a long weekend of fishing and recreating on the 7 acre property. The structures and improvements are old and not maintained at the condition you would expect from a vacation rental, but this didn't detract from our stay. It may for others.

Unfortunately, the day after our stay I received an email stating that my deposit was being kept and that I was being charged a very large, additional fee for leaving the place a mess, burning a hole in the carpet, and damaging a garage door. We did none of those things. We cleaned up after ourselves and left the property in the same condition we received it, minus typical cleaning. It was later admitted that we were not responsible for the carpet (a previous reviewer faced the same accusation). Myself and multiple guests noticed the garage door was damaged our first day there. The damage had obviously been there a while, as the exposed metal was RUSTY. I have not heard back from the owner since explaining this to her after she sent me a picture. She repeatedly told me an estimate was on the way, and she was sure it would be more that her number. She also told me "See you in court" when I said I would not pay for things we did not do. She did apologize for "overreacting" regarding the other issues, but has never admitted that we did not damage the garage. It seems that either the caretaker is being dishonest or they both are. I fairly offered to let her keep a portion of the deposit, since we did have a total of 12 guests for different nights throughout the weekend, 4 more than what we originally booked for. We were accused of having more than 20 guests and being complained about by the neighbors, which we were never notified of. At this point, I do not expect to hear from her again and that I will not get any of my deposit back.

I have tried to contact VRBO about the situation, but they don't seem to care about these things. The caretaker did not meet us at the property because we arrived "too late", around 9pm. Make sure to meet her and walk the property or at least take pictures, especially if you are planning to have a large group and take advantage of the benefits of this property. A previous reviewer seemed to have a similar experience.

Owner's Response: SAME GUESTS WRITING MANY BAD REVIEWS Krishanne waited at the property for three hours and even lit a fire for these people who did not tell her were running late. She had all the lights on and made a fire and we even provided firewood free of charge.. this guest is from the same party as the above review. they decided to not pay for additional guests, run a car into the garage , and not pay for it, and THEN write two bad reviews. 99 percent of my guests are respectful and appreciate the property; others take advantage of the place.. that is sad..
