Overview

About the property

Seven Magical Acres of Lake-Front Heaven!

MONKEY HOUSE, NAMED AFTER MY DOG MONKEY, INVITES YOU TO CHERISH YOUR TIME AT HIS NAMESAKE HOME, WITH THE FAMILY YOU LOVE, FRIENDS YOU CHERISH, AND RECONNECT WITH THEM ALL.. INCLUDING YOUR FURRY FAMILY... WE ESPECIALLY LOVE AND WELCOME PITBULLS, THE MOST LOVING, GENTLE AND MISUNDERSTOOD BREED... NO TRYING TO PASS YOUR PITTY OFF AS A "BOXER" OR A 'MUTT" :)

A truly majestic setting, it's hard to describe or show ipn pictures the awe-inspiring natural beauty of this unique home on 7 acres and a private lake with 340 ft. of shoreline.

Monkey house features three bedrooms, an upstairs loft, and three bathrooms - two with soaking tubs, one with sauna jets. The kitchen is outstanding! Rustic rock walls, a six-burner Chef's stove complete with a restaurant-sized griddle, and a bakers delight bonus room for convection oven baking. This kitchen is suitable for large parties as the open floor plan flows into the dining and living rooms, and there is a wrap-around deck that overlooks Pearl Lake.

There are three stories: On the first level there are two bedrooms, both with Queen beds, and a shared Jack and Jill bathroom with doors to close off shower/bath area. The second level has a fantastic master bedroom with a California King-sized bed and French doors leading to a deck with pristine lake views. The master bath has a wonderful jacuzzi tub and walk-in closet. The kitchen, dining and living rooms are located on this level. The living room features a three-sided, extra-comfy sectional couch that folds out into an additional Queen-sized bed. There is a rustic wood-burning stove that can easily heat the entire second level. A half-bath is on this level as well as a separate, private deck overlooking the front yard from the living room. The sunlit loft is located at the top of a spiral staircase. It has two single beds with room for sleeping bags and cots.

This home is a dog haven!

There are large, fenced dog areas off the back deck and a wooden dog house (although mine would never dream of sleeping outside). You can have your canines fenced with access into the house, or you can have them enclosed in the dog yard.

From the wrap-around deck you’ll have a full view of the lake. As you gaze down on the water while swaying firs and pines canopy above you, you will experience solitude and serenity. Walk straight down the stairs and onto a carpet of lush grass that ends at your own private lake inlet. Perfect for you, kids, and dogs. Swim out to the lake’s island, or grab the canoe or rowboat and go fishing or exploring. The gazebo nestled at the lake’s edge offers a most ideal setting for weddings and ceremonies, with a red bridge over the lake inlet as a walkway for picturesque moments!

Also lakeside is an outdoor kitchen, fully equipped for large feasts with a stove and BBQ grill, commercial sink, fish cleaning station and fire pit for night time marshmallow roasts. Under the outdoor kitchen’s covered pavilion you’ll find ceiling fans, a sound system, and multiple picnic tables and chairs. Alongside the pavilion is an outdoor bathroom.

This is a YEAR-ROUND fishing destination, beginner - advanced! It's also a great base-camp for hikes into the Trinity Alps Wilderness. Our caretaker is also a fisherman so if you have any questions, please ask!

• FALL: Some of the best salmon fishing in California can be found on the Trinity River. King Salmon can be caught from the banks with simple spinner and spoon lures (5 minute drive).

• WINTER: Steelhead run in Trinity River (5 minute drive). Trout can be caught on the surfaces of Trinity and Lewiston Lakes (approximately 30 miles east).

• SPRING: Bass spawn in Pearl Lake (in our backyard). Spring-Run Salmon in Trinity River (5 minute drive).

• SUMMER: Bass and bluegill feed on the surface of Pearl Lake (in our backyard). Perfect for a child's first catch! Hike-in trout fishing in the Trinity Alps Wilderness.

• The most popular entry point into the Trinity Alps Wilderness is the Canyon Creek Trailhead. I'ts located in Junction City just across the river from us, about a 30 minute drive.

• Weaverville, founded in 1850 and a historic Gold Rush town, is only a 15 minute drive away.

One stay at Monkey House and you’ll be counting the days until you return!PETS:

Guestbook comments from the owner

One of a kind stay. Kids and dogs swam all day and slept all night! My teenageers even said it was "Cool." Skip the organic market in town; its overpriced and not the freshest food. Weaverville was cute. Make sure you get to the falls!! Incrediible

Sketchy accusations were made

  • 2 of 5

Very suspicious accusations made by housekeeper and property manager. Damages that never happened were attempted to be pinned on the group. Renter beware...

Owner's Response: This group had paid for eight guests and had well over 15. This is a lovely home but not a party pad to abuse. We don't check on guests while they are there so we use the honor system and the majority of people respect this. Someone backed or forwarded their car into the garage and damaged it so that we had to replace the door. No one in the group took responsibility and they were upset that I had to keep their deposit money to fix the damage. They said they had "great time" but would wait to see how we resolved the damage deposit before giving me a review. They could have easily taken responsibility and resolved this but they chose not to..

Hot!!

  • 3 of 5

First off let me start by thanking the owner of monkey house for opening up her property to me and my family. We took our vacation in august of 2016 and god dam it was HOT!!! the hwy leading from Redding to junction city was being worked on so there where a lot of delays. The lake itself was very full of growth and made it difficult to fish in. We found a clearing in the lake just to the right of the dock and fishing was out of control! My daughter and I would normally fish later in the evening when it wasn't so hot. I do have to admit that in the seven days that I was there with my family I never saw another person fish in that lake so having the lake to ourselves was probably the best fishing experience I've ever had Imagine your own private lake and every time you threw your line in the water there was a fish at the other end, it was great!! There was more than enough room for the six of us in the house and plenty of room on the property for dogs and kids alike to explore The house itself was extremely hot during the daytime The only air conditioning is a window unit in the master bedroom Luckily we were out exploring the area and surrounding cities during the day anyway We were able to keep cool at Whiskeytown lake which was about a 45 minute drive to the east and the caretaker turned us onto a few local spots To the west at the river. All in all if it wasn't for the heat it probably would've been one of the greatest trips but what do you expect it was August Other than that my only regret was not being able to bring up my pitbulls since monkey house was originally supposed to be a pitbull sanctuary I would have loved to have taken a picture with my dogs on Linda's property to send to her but Coming from Los Angeles the drive might have been too much for them 10hrs! FATHERS! If you're looking for a nice place to reconnect with your children while catching some fish I highly highly recommend this place, for me there was no better experience than sitting on the dock fishing with my daughter (and actually catching fish). Just keep in mind that in the summer months particularly in August it's pretty damn hot ! Thanks again Linda for allowing this old dog face soldier spend a week at your property we really appreciate it! My email is KONAN1378@yahoo.com I would love to answer any questions that you might have about the property and our experience.

Nice getaway, but wish the appearance of the water had been different.

  • 4 of 5

We had a nice weekend away at the Monkey House. Please see below for the pros and cons of our visit.

Pros: This place was private and quiet! There was a nice enclosed area for our pooch, so we could let him outside without worry. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking. The jacuzzi tub was amazing And, the outside kitchen down by the water was very nice too. There are A LOT of stairs to get down to the water, so I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone that has issues with stairs or has trouble getting around. The house is huge with a lot of room to move around. It is a little dark inside, but that's usually what you get with a cabin. We also saw lots of ducks and cute deer out in the yard. This was a great place if you need to unwind or catch up with nature.

Cons: The hammock on the porch was great, but part of it was ripped so we layed sideways in it...made it a little awkward. The stairs seemed a little old...kind of makes you feel like you need to walk slowly and hold the railings. The tv remote batteries were dead and the landlord didn't have any of the same type of batteries in the house to replace them. If it weren't for us having something in our baggage that carried the same batteries, that we were able to use, then we would have had to drive a while to the store to purchase some in order to watch tv. However, the biggest con for us though, was the water. We knew that the water level would be low because we were in the drought. But, the pictures in the ad showed a clean looking lake, but it had some sort of algae or something all over it. Excuse my ignorance on algae or whatever was in the water. We tried to take the boat out on it and enjoy the beautiful lake, but it honestly looked like vomit whenever I looked at the surface of the water. It just wasn't very pretty or relaxing to me. Maybe I'm just weird, but I just wish the pictures in the ad would have reflected how it really looked. Honestly, it was a huge let down for me.

But, other than that, it was a good getaway and I appreciate the owner allowing us to stay there.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay! Thr lake is usually swimable (we always do) but in drought season it can heat up the water which makes algae grow. Also you can use the path around to the lake so you don't have to take the stairs! Come back soon! It's different every season!

Super great stay! Will be back!

  • 5 of 5

Booked the Monkey House for a couples retreat. Had an amazing time! The house is stocked with everything you need from coffee, cooking essentials, movies, games, ping pong and more! We felt right at home like it was our family cabin. The place is peaceful, secluded and private. The house is really large but still feels cozy. The wifi was a bit spotty, but the caretakers came out and fixed it right away. We had 12 guests, but if you have more, you might want to bring extra towels and toilet paper because we went through them quickly. Tops Market wasnt what we were used to so I would recommend maybe bringing up some fresher produce since this store was lacking. All around great trip. All caught fish and had amazing fish fry down at the outdoor kitchen, which was incredible! Thanks Krishanne and Jeff, we will be back

Absolutely Lovely

  • 5 of 5

Monkey house was absolutely lovely. The pictures just can't do it justice. We held a small wedding here with family and friends. Krishanne and Jeff was amazing, even planting my favorite flowers around the lake to make it perfect! She was never annoyed at our million questions and texts, (new bride, lol) and was there whenever we needed . The grounds are perfect for larger parties, with plenty of parking. We even had some guests camp in the meadow overlooking the lake, and even used the outdoor kitchen to prepare the food. Waking up in the morning and looking out over the lake is truly awe-inspiring, and we are hoping to come back for our anniversary! Thank you so much Krishanne and Jeff. You made our event truly wonderful.
