Every Year Gets Better!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second year staying at this place and it exceeded our expectations once again! It is in a great spot on the island. So close to the water and so many wonderful restaurants. It's also perfect for a relaxing morning or evening. A well equipped kitchen and bbq, comfy couch, great entertainment set up, and plenty of space. We couldn't imagine staying anywhere else with what we get here! Could not recommend it more!

Beautiful, Relaxing, Everything We Needed for Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed for three nights for part of our honeymoon. The home is located in a great part of the island; five minutes from Magic Sands beach, near a shopping center with a market and restaurants--we enjoyed Sam Choy's at sunset, near one of the hotels for some amazing manta ray viewing at night, and close to downtown Kona driving. The home was clean with a well equipped kitchen we used to make some of our meals, a barbecue outside, very comfortable beds, and two wonderful lanais with fantastic views of the ocean. Our first sunset we grilled some fish, made dinner, and with some Kona beer we ate our meal sitting on the upstairs lanai looking out at the ocean. The area was very quiet and you could hear the ocean. We also were always able to find parking in the lot in front of where we stayed.

Relaxing stay in style and comfort

  • 4 of 5

We had originally rented a separate house but when that became unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances, the rental agents got us a townhouse in Na Hale instead. Honestly, I think it was better in most respects! Everything was clean, modern and nice. We had an ocean view and a small grassy lawn in front of the downstairs lanai, where there was a dining table and a gas grill.

The rooms upstairs were nice, especially the master suite (where our friends stayed). Upstairs lanai also very nice with sofas and pillows.

It was just a short walk to the pool, near the gates to the community.

Just a couple of things that were annoying: the bathroom fans were connected to the light switch in two of the three bathrooms and they were loud. I tried to stay away from my bathroom for that reason. And the pool has too many rules, impossible to follow with small kids even if you try to be considerate to other guests in the area and living nearby. Probably because a lot of retired people with a desire for calm and quiet reside there, but why not have fewer rules and ask people to respect each other instead of a rigorous list that makes you stressed.

All in all I can recommend this place, unless you feel restricted by rules of behavior. The grounds are quite welcoming (albeit a bit too perfect) and not as gray and oppressive as it seems on those pictures of the entrance side of the townhouse. Who takes these pictures?

Also, it's possible to walk to the nearest beach in about 20 min or drive in 3 min. A great beach for snorkeling and watching sealife, and ok to hang out on. Not a lot of fine sand, but the kids had a great time. There is a shopping center within a 5-min walk also.

Everything Was Perfect

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for our one year anniversary this August and could not have been more satisfied with this place. It's a beautiful 3 bedroom with everything you can ask for. It's located in a perfect area right in between a convenient shopping center and some of the best beaches on the island. Make sure to spend an afternoon at Magic Sands and then go watch the Sunset at Sam Choy's. The mattresses were so comfortable, the living room is plenty spacious, the area is quiet enough for a night in and lively enough for a fun night out. There was only 2 of us but we want to come back next year with a couple of our friends because it is spacious enough to fit 6 comfortably. I can't recommend this place enough! Such a great deal for the quality of the place.

More about Keauhou Shopping Center:

Enjoy shopping, dining and helpful services in a truly legendary location.

Keauhou Shopping Center is the centerpiece of Keauhou Resort, a modern getaway surrounded by rich Hawaiian history. Once the birthplace and playground of kings, the Center offers an incredible shopping experience and the chance to learn about the heritage of the Kona coast through special entertainment and educational programs. More about Kahaluu Beach Park (walking distance from Na Hale O'Keauhou):

Kahaluu Beach Park is a tiny sheltered cove on the west side of the Big Island right in the town of Kailua Kona. It’s one of only a handful of beaches in Hawaii with such a large tame fish population. Kahaluu Beach is not a marine preserve, yet for having no fishing limitations, it rivals and sometimes surpasses the quantity of fish you’ll see at a dedicated marine sanctuary. Link to more information: http://www.hawaiisnorkelingguide.com/kahaluu_beach_park_snorkeling.html

The Kona region of the Big Island goes beyond Hawaii's traditional offerings. Sure, there's ample sun, surf and sandy beaches, but the Kona coast features so much more. Step back in time and explore Kona's history, taste some of the world's richest coffee and view marine animals in the clear waters of the surrounding Pacific Ocean. These activities and more a wait along the Big Island's Kona coast.

Location: Kona is one of seven regions on Hawaii's Big Island, encompassing a 60-mile stretch of the western coast. The Big Island sits at the southeastern end of Hawaii's island chain, and is 4,038 square miles, double the combined size of Hawaii's other seven islands.

History: Kailua-Kona, also called Kailua-Kona Town, is a city in the Kona region and was, at one point, home to King Kamehameha in the early 1800s. The Historic Kailua Village in Kailua-Kona pays homage to Kamehameha and other Hawaiian royalty with tours of historic sites such as Hulihee Palace and Mokuaikaua Church. Also located on the Kona coast is Kealakekua Bay, where captain James Cook first landed on the Big Island and eventually was killed, in 1779.

Historical Parks: Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park has a monument to Captain James Cook. Near Kealakekua Bay is the 180-acre Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, which was once a sacred place of refuge. The Kaloko-Honokohau National Historic Park is a 1,160-acre park just north of Kailua-Kona that is home to historic temples and ancient petroglyphs.

Beach Activities: There are many white-sand beaches and ocean activities available on the Kona coast, from snorkeling and surfing to whale watching and dinner cruises. The waters along the Kona coast are calm and clear, providing perfect visibility of green sea turtles, fish and other marine life while snorkeling and scuba diving. There are surfing schools that offer individual and group lessons, sport fishing charters, dinner cruises and boat tours that will put you up close to whales, dolphins, manta rays and green sea turtles.

Things to Do: There's plenty to do in Kona aside from beach and ocean activities. Kona's small towns have many shops and galleries. Take a tour up to the 14,000-foot summit of nearby Mauna Kea, either during the daytime, to enjoy spectacular views, or at night, to take in some stargazing. Visit Kona in October to take in the annual Ironman World Championship, a long-distance triathlon that attracts some of the world's top athletes.

Kona Coffee: Kona has many excellent restaurants that offer dishes featuring fresh seafood from the Pacific Ocean, but the real treat on this part of the island is Kona coffee. There are many coffee farms in Kona, the only place where Kona coffee beans are grown to produce 100 percent pure Kona coffee. The conditions in Kona are just right for growing these rare beans--elevation, constant cloud cover and rich, volcanic soil. Aside from taking home some of this famous beverage, visitors can tour many of the area's coffee farms, and visit the Kona Coffee Living History Farm.
