Great cabin, great hosts, wonderful experience

  • 5 of 5

This was a great experience. The cabin was exactly as described, super clean, and the owners provided the BEST experience. Our family had a terrific time, and we loved the extra touches of treats, fire pit, and smores. Real hospitality on the part of the owners. This cabin is close to a lot of fun outdoor activities. We rafted, hiked, and did other fun stuff at NOC. Also, Lake Nantahala where we spent a day on the lake fishing and boating. We will most definitely return in the future, and want to say a big thank you to the owners for letting our family enjoy their home.

Enjoyable stay

  • 4 of 5

First, our hosts were wonderful. They left us fresh baked cookies the first day, and fresh muffins later on, not to mention the makings for smores and hot chocolate. The house is very clean and the beds are comfortable. I liked having a washer and dryer on site. Our hosts were very good as far as answering questions (both before and after we arrived) and checking to see if we needed anything. They also left clear instructions on how everything worked.

That said, staying here is like staying at your grandmother's house. The house is comfortably well worn. If you're looking for the latest and greatest upgrades, then this isn't the place for you. The master bedroom is in the loft so there's no privacy. There are plenty of towels, but they've seen better days. The wi-fi was spotty (which bothered no one except my kids), but the satellite t.v. worked fine.

You have to travel on some very windy (paved) roads to get to the cabin. I highly recommend that you arrive before dark. We did not, and the drive was a little intimidating since we didn't know where we were going. In daylight, it wasn't nearly as bad, but if you have children who are prone to motion sickness, beware! The drive is pretty (the river winds along most of it), and we saw a deer with her babies and a family of turkeys! Our stay was rather rainy so we didn't get to take advantage of the fire pit. The hot tub is small, but it was nice to relax in after a long day.

Quiet, private getaway w/ above & beyond service!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our week at the chalet! Millie and Jack are fantastic hosts, who provide lots of thoughtful extras to make you feel welcome. Very clean, well-stocked kitchen, comfortable beds for all. There was a nice selection of board games and some movies for rainy days. We made good use of the hot tub & fire pit after our day's activities--some amazing stargazing!

We went whitewater rafting on the Nantahala and had a blast with our guide Will at https://nantahalarafting.com/. We did some hiking near the Tellico Gap, which is only about 10 minutes away, up to the Wesser Bald Lookout Tower. (FYI, the tower seems to be a party spot for some locals on the weekend, so go on a weekday if you want a more peaceful viewing) Also went to the Cherokee Museum (enlightening, heavy topic, but definitely worth the trip!) and stopped by Bearmeat's Den for some authentic Native American goods. We went to see the old growth Joyce Kilmer Memorial forest, with 400 year-old poplars--beautiful & easy hike!

We vacation often in cabins, and this is one of the few to which we plan to return!

Secluded Getaway

  • 5 of 5

While the place had all the amenities of satelite, dvd, internet, etc our family enjoyed the place without taking advantage of them. The inside has a true cabin feel and is updated with nice woodwork throughout and more than enough room for our family of 6. The added bonuses left by Millie and Jack are a nice treat.

Beautiful surroundings and a lovely cabin

  • 5 of 5

Millie and Jack really know how to do hospitality. We were greeted and asked if there was anything we needed and then they left us to ourselves. We were welcomed with home baked treats and sent off with treats!

The decor is very nice with plenty of seating inside and out. It's quiet except for the birdsong! All surfaces were clean and we had all the supplies we needed. There was plenty of linen. Just wonderful! If we are in the area again, we would stay here.

If you are kayaking the Nantahela and nearby rivers the location is convenient. It is 20 min. from Patton's Run put-in. You drive up a scenic little winding road along a creek with waterfalls to this beautiful wooded mountain setting.
