About the Property

Our cottage is a converted artist studio with a loft bedroom.

Plum Blossom Cottage is located in the heart of inner N.E. Portland, close to Alberta Arts District, Mississippi St., Williams/Vancouver corridor, Emmanuel Hospital, Lloyd Center/Rose Quarter, downtown and the Pearl District. The cottage is easily accessible by MAX lightrail and Tri-met bus sytems. Originally an artist studio, the cottage is a 240 sq. foot gem designed and remodelled by a team of local artists. With exquisite attention to detail and an eye towards sustainble, ecological and recycled materials the cottage boasts cork floors, sustainably harvested or recycled and local woods, recycled tiles, and 0-voc emiission paints. Plum Blossom Cottage is situated in a private, yet shared garden that is in the process of being Wildlife habitate certified by the Audobon Society. The cottage is hosted by Portland artist, Cibyl Kavan, and is available for short term vacation rentals, longer work stays and creative retreats. Within walking distance are two healthy groceries, restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, tea gardens, art galleries, yoga studios and much, much more!

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2000

About the owner: Cibyl: I am an artist (working with handmade recycled paper, natural inks, and textiles) and a Montessori teacher. I was born in Paris and raised in England, Malta and Greece before moving to the United States. Part of my childhood was spent hosting guests on a 72 ft. schooner in the Mediterranean. Ed: I am an IT professional, unicycle rider and Dharma Holder in the Zen Community of Oregon. Portland has been our home since 1991 and I love it here: the organic, locally grown food, the books (Yay! Powells!), the adventurous, outside-the-box culture, the focus on sustainability and the incredible natural beauty. As a child, my family hosted a refugee Vietnamese family. For both of us, hospitality is something woven into the very fabric of our beings! We have three children, all in various stages of flying the coop. In 2013 we moved the studio space into our big house and decided to convert our studio into a guest house. We wanted to create a special, magical, secluded, intimate, welcoming space for people to enjoy for a weekend or for longer creative retreats, visiting family or just vacationing in our wonderful region. We are excited to share what we've created as well as our fabulous city and bioregion.
