'The Lakeside Haven' Luxury Lakefront Retreat on Serene Lakes

Bedrooms 4
Half Baths1
Space 2,125 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 6-7)

The Lakeside Haven is nestled on the shore of Lake Serena, the quieter of the two Lakes in the community of Serene Lakes, in the town of Soda Springs at Donner Summit.

The home has a southerly exposure and high, vaulted pine ceilings offering wonderful sunlight and beautiful summer views of Serene Lakes through early evening. The Lakeside Haven is situated on a unique lakefront lot with vacant lots on each side offering unusual privacy.

In the winter Sugar Bowl, only 10 minutes away, offers some of Tahoe's best downhill skiing. The home is also only 5 minutes away from Royal Gorge Cross-Country Ski Resort, which is one of the largest cross-country skiing areas in the world. And it is about 5 minutes from Soda Springs Ski Resort with tubing and special snow programs for children. Squaw, Alpine and Northstar are located near Lake Tahoe (about 30 to 40 minutes away). You can also cross-country ski or snow shoe on the frozen lakes just out the back door.

In the summer, enjoy swimming and relaxing at the beautiful community beach on the connecting sister lake, Lake Dulzura. At the beach are tables and even a snack bar that is open many weekends. Or take the Lakeside Haven’s 3-person canoe or 1-person kayak out for peaceful boating on the lakes. Just outside on the deck facing the lake are a pair of chaise lounges ideal for a nap or reading. (The boats and patio furniture are available June 15 - October 15.)

Truckee is only 20 minutes away with its shopping boutiques as well as fine restaurants such as Moody's, The Dragonfly and The Drunken Monkey.

The Lakeside Haven boasts lakeside views from the master bedroom suite, seclusion and serenity. The master bedroom suite is appointed with grand mahogany furniture and a wood burning fireplace, all setting the mood for enjoying your relationship with your beloved.

Family members have separate living quarters upstairs with 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, sleeping up to 6 upstairs.

All bedrooms and the two full bathrooms have vaulted pine ceilings. The 3 bedrooms upstairs boast 4 large beds and share one full bathroom, also with a vaulted pine ceiling. 2 of the 3 bedrooms are connected by double French doors, with the lakeside bedroom having beautiful lake views. Sheer drapes separate those two rooms for privacy. The downstairs master suite has lofty vaulted ceilings, a wood burning fireplace, dual sinks in the master bathroom room, and sweeping lake views at just above lake level.

When snow gets high in the winter it will encircle the large deck off the living and dining rooms (which is kept shoveled) and surround the first story of the home including the master bedroom and dining room to create a cozy, tucked-in, winter wonderland feel.

Location: Town of Soda Springs, California just off I-80 on Donner Summit. Near Donner Lake, and near North Shore of Lake Tahoe. 5 minutes to Sugar Bowl downhill skiing and Royal Gorge cross-country skiing. Lots of hiking nearby. Kayaking and boating on the lakes. 20 minutes to Truckee restaurants and shopping. 15-20 minutes to Donner Lake fishing. 30-40 minutes to Squaw, Alpine and Northstar.

Beauty at its best

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house. Being right on the lake was a real plus. You could walk down to the lake, listen to the ducks, birds and squirrels and watch bald eagles fly over the lake. It was stunning and so relaxing. I would love to rent this house again in the winter when the lake is frozen over and everything is white.

Great home for a large crowd, and family meals. We were snowed in the whole weekend, and kept busy building igloos and snowshoeing. The home has board games, a great TV and more. The rooms were very nicely appointed, and the kitchen had every imaginable item for cooking and entertaining. We loved the cozy master bedroom with fireplace. The kids liked having the 3 bedrooms & loft upstairs all to themselves. The owner was very responsive. I hope we can go back sometime to take advantage of the lake and warmer weather.

Beautiful lake view

  • 4 of 5

We loved the big deck and beautiful lake view and enjoyed kayaking and canoeing. The only minus I would give the property is the lack of good curtains in the bedrooms. We stayed during the summer, so it got bright early. Also in order to get to the 4th bedroom, you have to go through the 3rd bedroom which is a bit awkward.

A slice of heaven in the Sierras

  • 5 of 5

We went up with our two kids (ages 2 and 4) and friends with their two kids (ages 1 and 5). The house is huge, so we had space to spread out. There was enough room for all of us around the dining room table and plenty of chairs to accommodate all of us in the living room. The kitchen was surprisingly well-appointed -- the knives were sharper than ours at home which I don't think I've ever had at a rental. The location is what makes this place -- stunningly beautiful views of the lake from the large wrap-around deck with a path that leads directly to Lake Serena, where you can take out a 3-person canoe and a 1-person kayak. You can canoe across both lakes in 10 minutes or so to arrive at the Serene Lakes Home Owners Association beach, which is the perfect place to spent a lazy day. Catherine has put together a very clear visitors guide that made arrival and departure super easy and she was very prompt with communication. Would LOVE to head up there again in the winter.
