The bathroom has a full-size shower and tub combination, so you can take a hot soak after a long day of museum visits or sightseeing.
The house sits on a corner lot which allows for lots of light and a wrap-around yard. The side yard is equipped with a seating and dining area, and cushions are ready to tote outside and make it comfy. Kids can run and play in the side yard or step across the street to the 'pocket park' with a mini-ropes course, swing, rope ladder, and balance beam. Walking one block northwest, you find Lincoln Park with a gorgeous statue of Lincoln freeing a slave and Mary McCloud Bethune. Lincoln Park boasts a beautiful view of the U.S. Capitol down historic East Capitol Street and is a great destination for exercise or playground time.
In the immediate neighborhood, you will find a gourmet bakery and coffee shop, a pretzel bakery and a full-service grocery store (with a Starbucks coffee shop inside) all within 2 blocks.
Walking west on Independence Avenue just 7 blocks, you find yourself at the historic Eastern Market where you can shop old-world style including a butcher, cheese shop, florist, bakery, deli and grocer. On weekends, the whole area comes alive with food vendors, a flea market, artists, hand-crafters, farmers and so much more. It is both a destination and the journey.
If fitness is a priority, you can easily find a great workout here on the Hill. Great walking and running routes extend both east and west from the property. You can easily run to the National Mall - 3 mile loop to the Capitol and back; 6 mile loop to the Lincoln Memorial and back. Other options include linking bridges and trails along the Anacostia River, passing Nationals Stadium and strolling through the Navy Yard area.
If leisurely or functional activity is what you're after, Capitol Bikeshare is a great option. You can buy a membership for a day, week or month and have access to bikes all around the DC metro area. You check out a bike from one station, drop it off at another and make a day of adventuring while saving your feet, covering more ground, and seeing more sights in less time. A bikeshare station sits just across the intersection from the rental property.
The property is in easy walking distance (15 ~ min) to the U.S. Capitol, Library of Congress, and Folger Shakespeare Library. A slightly longer walk (25~30 min) and you arrive at the National Mall and the Smithsonian museums.
To go a little further in your explorations, you can access the Metro and see all the sights. The rental property is just 5 blocks from Potomac Avenue metro station and 7 blocks from Eastern Market metro station with access to Blue, Orange and Silver lines.
Grab & go, Casual and Fine Dining options abound on Barack's Row (8th street Southeast near the Marine Corps Baracks), Eastern Market Area (7th Street Southeast) and along Pennsylvania Avenue. Whether it be ethnic cuisine, family-friendly, pizza, tapas or All-American burgers and fries, the Capitol Hill area is sure to please.
