Owners are natives of New Orleans and residents of Baton Rouge, Louisiana who have loved traveling to the Florida Keys for over 30 years where the clear water and beautiful fish abound. We love diving and snorkeling, especially at Sombrero Key, and our kids love fishing, lobstering and spearfishing. We find the Keys history fascinating, and we love the architecture of Key West (probably because of its similarity to uptown New Orleans).
Halley Haack : property manager purchased this house in 2014
Knottaway has it ALL at a reasonable price. Four spacious bedrooms and adequate living area, plus a washer and dryer on the main floor. Great TV viewing as well, with plenty of cable channels and sports. Comfortable porch with good seating and friendly neighbors. Swimming pool with heater and chiller for your relaxation. Boat lift and fish cleaning table make boating very convenient.
Clean, new property with nice pool and plenty of room on the property for boat trailer and parking for 4 cars. Bus available to key west at a reasonable cost and a 6-block walk. Interesting beaches to explore, reefs to snorkel, dive and fish, museums, restaurants and bars to visit and enjoy. Come and share our little bit of paradise!
Our family was at Knottaway for the month of November 2015. At any given time we had from two to nine adults and two infants in the house. The home is comfortable and spacious and more than adequately equipped with all kitchen accessories, linens beach towels, and pool furnishings. The wrap around porch on the second story is a wonderful outside venue after a days outing. A ping pong table on the lower level was great entertainment for all as were the games and puzzles in the house Centrally located the house is convenient to the action of Key West or the habitat trails of Big Pine Key. Bahia Honda State Park is a 20 minute drive and offers guided snorkel trips, kayak rentals and either bay or ocean swimming. The pool and outside shower was a welcome sight after a day of fishing or just being at the State Park. There is adequate parking for cars and boat trailers. Located in a quiet residential neighborhood we enjoyed meeting neighbors, bikers and dog walkers on a daily basis. Knottaway is located a close distance to markets, gas stations, post office, and some excellent restaurants. The owners of the home were always accessible by phone if we had questions and always quick to respond. A wonderful getaway for a family and it's not often we find a home that accommodates everyone so comfortably. We hope to be back soon. Thank you!
We rented the Knottaway home for the month of July and loved it. The home was wonderful vary spacious, beautiful inside and out. We have been going to the keys for many of years, renting homes from several different keys. But this was the first year we truly had a great time. The kitchen was fully equipped, plenty of rooms and beds to comfort several guest. Which we have a big family and finding a home to sleep 8 or more people can be challenging and to have your own privacy. It was really great to have our family staying under the same roof and it accommodates families, kids, or even friends. The home had plenty of games or things for kids to do. The second floor has a large wrap around porch that was vary relaxing with a morning breeze and a great cup of coffee. The pool with an outside shower was paradise being able to come in from a day of fishing or lobstering makes it refreshing and convenient. We enjoyed a nice evening swim with a few drinks just to sit in peace and quiet made it so relaxing. Also love that the home offers plenty of room for parking with parking our boat trailer in the yard. We had plenty of room for our boat (which is 25') on the boat dock, dock made it nice to clean up the boat after going out for the day, vary spacious. The home is in a vary nice neighborhood surrounded with a lot of nice neighbors. We were able to enjoy a lot of new resturants near by I think one of our favorites would have been the Hog Fish it is almost to key west. Several great other places we enjoyed are KIKi's bar and grill by little torch key, Cantina mexican resturant, awesome cuban resturant in Key West. The location of the home is perfect and gives you so many options. It is so close to Big Pine key where we got to see the Key Deer and we were only about 20 minutes from Key West so we got to travel down there several times to walk around for some evening fun. One attraction we did enjoy was going back up to Robbies mile marker 77.5 to feed the tarpon, it was so neat to feed fish right out of your hand. Also the home is really close to an ice house and they have awesome homemade fresh fish dip. We would recommend the Knottaway home to any of our friends or family.
Our trip to the Keys was so relaxing and staying in this house was a special treat. The home is quite spacious and the beds are especially comfortable. The kitchen is beautiful and is well stocked with pots, pans dishes, coffeemaker etc. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the large wrap around porches and the sofas are nice and comfy for reading or relaxing after a day of adventure! We drove up to Bahia Honda and down to Key West several times during our stay and we were quite pleased with the convenience of the location. This is definitely our favorite home in the Keys so far and we hope to be back very soon!
We recently visited the Keys and this house was a special treat for us!! We felt at home the minute we walked in. The home itself is quite spacious and comfortable, nice beds and comfy sofas for reading and relaxing. The porch spaces are large and well furnished for those morning cups of coffee. We traveled up to Bahia Honda and down to Key West many times and were so pleased with the convenience of the location to both. The Square Grouper restaurant nearby was fabulous and there is access to boat, kayak and paddle board rentals a short distance away. This is definitely our favorite home in the Keys so far!!
We needed a quiet place with a pool and canal-front boat launch for a month of fishing the Keys and kayaking in gentle safe waters this past fall. We found this house to be spotlessly clean & a lovely environment, with softly painted rooms, interesting fish sculptures and Keys art on the walls along with the most comfortable beds in the world. As I was also trying to work on a forthcoming book, I was also delighted to find a first floor den with internet router waiting for me to plug in... and excellent wi fi on the deck surrounding three sides of the house. The kitchen was fab ... well equipped for creating gourmet fish feasts... The house worked well for just the two of us... and equally well when we had as many as two additional couples visiting. We also fell in love with The Square Grouper... a foodies delight on days when we had not caught our own dinner... This 4 star restaurant was a 15 minute walk or 5 minute bike ride from our front door. ... and then we began to explore the bike trails linking us to Key West and the tiny Keys deer up the road in Big Pine. Such a fun time!!!
We rented this house for one month. The minute we arrived we had to carry overflowing trash cans to the curb. We also had to clean old food off the grill and fill the grill tank. Then we had to clean the dried fish guts off the fish table. We woke up after the first night and there were ants all over the nightstand and side of the bed in the main bedroom. The second night we woke up covered with bug bites. We called the realtor immediately and she sent a "neighbor" to spray something he found in the garage, which was totally ineffective. The bugs were getting worse and eventually we were unable to sleep in the main bedroom or sit on one of the couches in the living room. There was also a strong, foul smell coming from the laundry room, which gave us all headaches. There was cat hair between the washer and dryer; some of us have allergies to cats. The carpets and windows were dirty. The fourth bedroom (on the first floor) is not a true bedroom; it does not have a door or a dresser, and there is a trundle bed (probably good for kids, but not the elderly). For the amount of money we paid, we expected a clean, safe, comfortable house. When I requested a small refund for the nights we were unable to sleep in the master bedroom, the realtor refused to return my phone calls.
A quick 30 minute or less drive to key west, where there's a festival nearly every weekend. Plenty of history, museums, fine dining, architecture and fun to be had. Short boat ride to snorkeling or diving coral heads, looe key and other reef locations. The view from the old bridge at bahia honda state park is a must see, as are the key deer which are very plentiful on nearby big pine key. Many exotic birds live in or migrate through the keys. Butterflies and tropical plants are abundant. Many easy kayak launches are available, or launch just off the dock in the back yard. The oldest house museum in key west is very interesting, and there are many other museums to see as well. Maps and informational booklets are in the desk in the house. We'll be happy to answer any questions.
