Overview

About the property

Chalet - 1 Bedroom/1 Bath, 400 Sq. Ft. (Sleeps 2)

As the description implies, Mountainside Chalet (MSC) is a "Tiny House" Hideaway (Definition of a tiny house is subjective, but it's a home of about 400 square feet or less, either on wheels or a foundation). MSC is on a foundation and nestled amongst the trees in Packwood, WA. Historic Packwood is situated between Mt. Rainier, Mt. Saint Helens, Mt. Adams, surrounded by the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and at the very center of Washington's White Pass Scenic Byway (Hwy 12), 'Playground of Volcano Country.' It is 7 miles from the southeast entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park and 19 miles from the White Pass Ski Area.

Mountainside Chalet's coziness will charm you. Drift into dreamland on a comfy mattress, with plump pillows and snugly, warm blankets.

Immediately outside is a deck w/private hot tub & outdoor table & chairs, for enjoying fresh alpine air. Behind the house is a wonderfully wooded area and Hall Creek tempting a visit, along with the neighborhood elk.

About Marilly Morton

Fred, as a teacher, is a life-time learner. His passion is family reading and sports. Marilly has a passion for family, birds, photography, and traveling, visiting Nicaragua, The Netherlands, Germany & Italy. We both visited Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Switzerland, Vancouver Island, Victoria BC, & Aruba. Fred managed a sailing trip to Belize with our oldest son.

To keep the international flavor in our home, we hosted exchange students including: two German, two Japanese, two Koreans, and one Colombian.

Besides our four vacation rentals, we own 2 Subway stores (in Portland, OR).

Marilly Morton purchased this chalet in 2006

Why Marilly Morton chose Packwood

We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglas, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas, offering year round recreational activities. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and .

What makes this chalet unique

I love the outdoors and it doesn't get more outdoors than this: set in tall timbers, Hall Creek singing water mysteries at the falls behind the house, private hot tub, star studded sky, passing elk, peeks of Mt. Rainier. . . what a combination! Private, cozy, comfortable and AFFORDABLE all at the same time. It's a great place for dreaming! We have 4 houses on adjacent properties, and there have been a couple occasions when all the houses were full, forcing us to rent local hotel rooms. It was more expensive in the hotel with far less amenities and privacy, so why would you want to stay anywhere else?

Beautiful little cottage

  • 5 of 5

Very cozy, very friendly. Couldn't hear the highway even though it wasn't far - just the wind, and the rain (it actually thundered for HOURS - in AUGUST). So close to the national park, too! I would definitely come back.

Pretty much as depicted, comfortable bed.

  • 3 of 5

Motion detector light kept me from being able to look at night sky. Classic cabin, first trip to area, not a lot of choices. Daunting rules kept coming once booked, “no sexual lubricants” & turn at sign with “bullet holes,” both amusing & concerning. Hadn’t had to make deposits before, and contract language made us nervous despite having excellent credit & always leave properties cleaner than we find them. Presumed owners have suffered abuses beyond normal. Will camp next time.

Great Chalet in the Northwest

  • 5 of 5

We had a terrific time at the Mountainside Chalet nestled in a small roadway away from the roadside traffic. Quiet and serene setting. The amenities served our purpose. Clean, tidy and comfortable living space. The bed was so comfortable. Right near Mount Rainier National Park and not too far to Mount Saint Helens National Monument. Thanks for a wonderful experience.

Mountainside Chalet Was Grand!

  • 5 of 5

Tucked away from Route 12 traffic and nestled in the woods, this tiny house was convenient to a very well stocked grocery store and to restaurants in Packwood. It is also very convenient to Mount Rainier's Ohanapecosh's entrance and 2 hours from Mt St Helen's.

The kitchen was well equipped, the bed very comfortable, and the sitting area and kitchen were cozy. We so enjoyed eating our dinners outside on the deck. We did not have time to use the hot tub on the deck, but I am sure that would also have been awesome as well .

If we travel that way again, we would definitely rent this VRBO again!
