About Marilly Morton

Fred, as a teacher, is a life-time learner. His passion is family reading and sports. Marilly has a passion for family, birds, photography, and traveling, visiting Nicaragua, The Netherlands, Germany & Italy. We both visited Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Switzerland, Vancouver Island, Victoria BC, & Aruba. Fred managed a sailing trip to Belize with our oldest son.

To keep the international flavor in our home, we hosted exchange students including: two German, two Japanese, two Koreans, and one Colombian.

Besides our four vacation rentals, we own 2 Subway stores (in Portland, OR).

Marilly Morton purchased this chalet in 2006

Why Marilly Morton chose Mount Rainier

We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglas, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas, offering year round recreational activities. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and .

What makes this chalet unique

I love the outdoors and it doesn't get more outdoors than this: set in tall timbers, Hall Creek singing water mysteries at the falls behind the house, private hot tub, star studded sky, passing elk, peeks of Mt. Rainier. . . what a combination! Private, cozy, comfortable and AFFORDABLE all at the same time. It's a great place for dreaming! We have 4 houses on adjacent properties, and there have been a couple occasions when all the houses were full, forcing us to rent local hotel rooms. It was more expensive in the hotel with far less amenities and privacy, so why would you want to stay anywhere else?

great place to base your stay in the Mt. Rainier area

  • 5 of 5

We spent the better part of a week in this fabulous "Mountainside Chalet". It was perfect for two people and was everything it was advertised to be.

It was immaculately clean and had everything you needed for a stay. Pots, pans, linens and even dish soap. We couldn't have been more pleased unless someone would have cooked our meals also.

The views from the area were magnificent and especially good from the hot tub!

Marilly was very responsive to any question we had via email. It was a great place to day trip from. Mt. St Helens and Rainier were very close. The Yakima fruit orchids were an easy day trip. Seattle would have been an easy trip, but we ran out of time.

I highly recommend this property for a stay in the Packwood area and I would make it my first choice if I came back to visit.

Cozy cabin getaway

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed our stay in the Mountainside Chalet while taking part in a family reunion just outside of Packwood. The cabin is in an excellent location: close to town and amenities and right off the road that leads to Mount Rainier's eastside access.

The cabin is in a cluster of other dwellings and tall trees, but is set back enough from highway 12 to avoid traffic sounds. There is a good sense of privacy and lots of quiet! Kitchen is small but adequate for simple meal prep, although I would have to bring a couple of lidded pans and my own knives if I planned to do any more than utterly basic cooking. The bathroom is small but clean and has a good shower. The bedroom is very nice and the queen-size bed is very comfortable. There is a pleasant porch with a small table and chairs that is a good spot for drinking morning coffee or late afternoon beer.

The cabin is definitely appropriate for a couple and this is clearly stated up front.

I had good contact with the owner before and after our stay and enjoyed our communications! She was straightforward and helpful, and we were provided with all the information we needed. We took care of the basic cleaning checklist before checking out, and our cleaning deposit was returned with no delay. I would certainly stay here again and can recommend it.

Great spot close to Mount Rainier

  • 5 of 5

Nice semi secluded 1 bedroom in a quiet neighborhood. House was very clean and accommodating .Its a great little spot for couples but I was traveling with a buddy so the couch worked fine as a 2nd bed. Walking distance from Packwood. Owner provided Wi-Fi and Cable (which was a blessing since AT&T doesn't work around Rainier area at all) owner has several properties and wouldn't hesitate to book with them again if I'm in the area.

Great mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5

We loved the sound of running water from a nearby creek and the hot tub was the perfect way to relax after exploring nearby parks and trails. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking and we were quite cozy and comfortable inside. Hope to stay again!

Owner's Response: Dear MH & PG, Yes, Hall Creek runs year round, but in late summer not as full as during your visit. Hope you made the short walk up to see it. Mother Nature graced the 2017 Memorial Day Weekend with sunshine, burgeoning the downtown area with traffic and difficult parking. As Mountainside Chalet (MSC) is only 0.3 mile from downtown, walking was the option we chose. Delighted you enjoyed the chalet, hot tub, park and nature. Hosting you again would be a pleasure.

Cozy, cute, and quiet

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Chalet was wonderful. It met our needs perfectly, the owner was accommodating and responsive to our needs.

The first night we didn't have hot water, and the owner was very quick to have the caretaker out within an hour or two to get it fixed, and even upgraded us to another cabin when the issue couldn't be resolved within our time limit. Definitely recommend, will be back.
