Marilly Morton purchased this chalet in 2006
We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglas, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas, offering year round recreational activities. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and .
I love the outdoors and it doesn't get more outdoors than this: set in tall timbers, Hall Creek singing water mysteries at the falls behind the house, private hot tub, star studded sky, passing elk, peeks of Mt. Rainier. . . what a combination! Private, cozy, comfortable and AFFORDABLE all at the same time. It's a great place for dreaming! We have 4 houses on adjacent properties, and there have been a couple occasions when all the houses were full, forcing us to rent local hotel rooms. It was more expensive in the hotel with far less amenities and privacy, so why would you want to stay anywhere else?
My husband and I came and stayed a few nights, it was perfect for the two of us! We went snowshoeing out skate creek road! The snow park was closed but we just parked at the gate and snowshoed along skate creek, it wasn't groomed so we broke our own trail! It was beautiful! We love Packwood, all seasons have their own allure! The cabin had tons of snow and it snowed the whole time we were there! It felt like we were in a winter wonderland! We will definitely be back! Marrilly was great to work with and easy to contact! We really enjoyed ourselves!!
I booked this cabin for my husband and we loved it. It is very clean, and stocked with everything you need in a kitchen! We had a blast playing in the snow, relaxing in the hot tub, and watching movies with hot cocoa!
The Mountainside Chalet was all I had hoped for and more! From the creek that I could hear from the front porch, to the mountain view from the front yard (when the clouds parted), it was all I hoped for and more for a weekend getaway for writing and photography. It was a short drive to many rivers and mountain views, and the gateway to Mt. Rainier State Park. Downtown Packwood was charming with a small grocery store, a wonderful coffee shop, and a place to buy local crafts (and honey) at Teas and Treasures. It was a great weekend vacation.
We stayed here three nights while we visited Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainer parks, and it is a great location between the two. It is well equipped and cozy. Packwood is very close with groceries and food. My only complaint is the shower. The shower head is aimed at my head, and with a small shower, there is no good way to get my body wet! A hand held would greatly improve the situation.
Cute Cottage as described, clean, well maintained and in a good location close to town.
This mountain chalet provided a very comfortable home base for our explorations of Mount St. Helens and Mt. Rainier National Park. The location could not have been better. We appreciated the cozy space, especially the wonderful bedroom a/c unit which kept us more than cool when temps outside neared 100 degrees! The bed was also quite comfortable. The unit was exceptionally clean. Although the kitchen cabinets and drawers were a little worn, we had all we needed to cook meals. Marilly was incredibly responsive to emails and answered many of our questions before we booked and after. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!
