The beaches of Kailua and Lanikai are rated among the most beautiful beaches in the world. Wind/kite surfing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, paddle boarding, all at your fingertips. Our quaint Kailua town is riddled with energy and availability. Joggers, walkers, skateboarders, boutiques, farmers markets (Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings), restaurants, and bus service throughout the Island. Catch a sunrise or moon rise from the beach, hike up the Ka'iwa Ridge Trail, or commonly known as 'Pillbox' hike, that overlooks Lanikai, and view the gorgeous blue, tranquil waters and Molulua 'Mokes' Islands.
Beach activity is available for your use, boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach mats, chairs, and coolers.

My husband, son and I have lived in Kailua for 5 years. We are fairly new to the area, but have enjoyed it tremendously.
Debora J. Anderson purchased this cottage in 2010
We love Kailua compared to any other area on Oahu. The area offers up hiking, golfing, the best beach around, running and biking along the Lanikai loop, and let's not forget the incredible views and weather. Kailua is a great place to vacation.
As a long time user of Home Away properties, I can say my experience here was one of the best ever! A lovely, cozy cottage in a very nice, safe neighborhood, and there obviously has been a lot of thought into what a traveler might need. The goodie basket and wine were the icing on the cake, and greatly appreciated! Why go to Waikiki when one of the world's most beautiful beaches is a short walk away? And all you need to bring is your bathing suit and flip flops because towels, chairs, boogie boards and snorkeling equipment are there for you to use! Don't want to drive? There's a bus stop just steps away that goes all over the island. You do have a car? Well , there's a parking spot right outside the door. Hiking is nearby too.
Everything in the cottage worked perfectly, and the outside areas were lovely. Other than the neighbors being noisy one afternoon, it was quiet, peaceful and restful place to stay and recharge. When I return to Oahu, I will stay here for certain.
We liked the cottage very much. The interior was newly redone in a very tasteful way. The cottage was fully equipped, even had a laundry. We even could borrow snorkeling equipment so we didn't have to rent that when we went to Hanuma bay. There was a small patio in which we could sit outside in the evenings.
The neighborhood is also very good, we could walk to the beach in 15 mins and to the shopping area in 10 mins. There was a Whole Foods and a number of other shops there. To drive to the other attractions were easy from Kailua.
LOCATION: Perfect for all of Hawaii. 30 to 40 minutes to Pearl Harbor on H3, less to Honolulu on Pali Highway. Even the North Shore is only an hour away. However you can do lots of stuff just by biking or walking.
AMENITIES: The shower is one of those wide-head rain showers. Very, very nice. We slept so well on that bed at night, with the silent overhead fan keeping us cool. The stove-top and refrigerator allowed us to cook eggs and toast each morning. Whole Foods Market is just downtown Kailua.
PRIVACY: Perfectly private. The 8-foot wall in front of the cottage provides this privacy. We can't hear any people noise from the main house so we figure they can't hear any people noise from the cottage, either.
COMFORT: Did I already mention the bed? Never tried the futon-sofa - only the 2 of us. But the main bed in the bedroom, very comfy! The hammock chairs on the lanai... oh, many hour spent in those chairs! The best!
LAUNDRY: MmmmHmmm... private laundry for the unit!
BIG SCREEN TV: plus all the LOST episodes on DVD - explore Oahu filming locations at the same time the gang is exploring their mysterious Island.
WOULD WE RETURN? We already did! We were here (same unit) in April-May 2016 and we came back 5 months later, we loved it so much. Oh and they provided a bottle of white wine which we enjoyed along with the other snacks. Plus Deborah and Barry are really nice, if you happen to meet them perhaps around the trash cans.
My little family loved our 3-night stay at this cottage. It was equipped with everything to make you feel at home and also had very useful features such as an outside shower, and washer and dryer. The 10-minute walk to shops and beach were not bad at all (although challenging with a stroller since there's construction on some roads). AC is only available in bedroom which was fine with us because we were mostly out and about during the day. Not being used to living in the tropics, I was expecting a lot of bugs and mosquitos to come into the house because all the windows were open, but surprisingly did not see any and we were not bitten once! I would definitely recommend my friends to stay here if they ever want to try living like a local.
Loved our stay here. Debora and Barry are very thoughtful hosts and it shows in the small comforts that they provide for their guests. We took advantage of the beach chairs and snorkeling gear, the laundry facilities, their binder full of useful information, and more. The cottage is airy and spacious, cool and breezy. I started our trip with a nasty cold and cough so I slept on the futon in the living room while my husband slept in the bedroom - both are very comfortable!
We LOVED Kailua! A laid-back beach town so far removed from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu but so convenient to everywhere.
Highly recommend and I only hope Debora and Barry are still renting this cottage if I am lucky enough to return to Oahu someday!
This was a great cottage so secluded feeling in a private garden but so close to town and everything. The AC in the bedroom is key...also great kitchen and grill. Debora is super responsive but never intrusive. Definitely recommend it for time in Kailua!
We are minutes away from the Kalapawai Market, a local hangout for a morning coffee, Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks (rentals), Bobs Pizza, Island Snow Shave Ice, Urgent Care, and Lanikai General Store (all locally owned) and all within walking distance. Or head up to Kailua town, Safeway, Whole Foods, restaurants, local art stores and so much more. 'The Bus' stops a minute from your front door. It's a great way to travel, an easy and affordable way to enjoy the beauty of the Island.
