Why Diana Rondinelli chose Dare County
We love the ocean! And no where have we found more seashells than on the beach at Kitty Hawk! We have even found tiny starfish there. We both have been to OBX for years - Diana when she as a child - Vic after coming to VA from WV in 1968.
What makes this Cottage unique
A short distance to the beach - and a delightful porch with a swing to enjoy. Perfectly located between Nags Head and Duck - you can go either way to enjoy shopping, art, spas - and many great restaurants. Children and adults alike will love the many things to do that are close-by ~ miniature golf, go carts, the list goes on and on.

We were in the Outer Banks for a family beach vacation! This home was everything we were looking for, clean, comfortable, and close to the beach! Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Unsafe and in general disrepair.
My first experience with the cottage was being electrocuted by the light switch under the cottage. I have heart problems from a pervious electrocution so this could have seriously injured me and would likely hospitalize someone with a pacemaker. The breaker did eventually trip, but not fast enough and then it had to be reset. Also, several outdoor lights didn't work including the one by the steps. This caused my 75yo father to fall down the stairs. After this happened everyone had to be escorted with an iPhone- light down the steps because it just wasn't safe. The front railing was so loose I had to keep coolers in front of it so the kids would not push on it. I have a video showing how loose it is...not safe at all. In addition to this, there were large nails sticking up out of the deck that several people stepped on and a gap in the upper deck by the edge where a child could easily get a leg caught. Because of this, we didn't bother going up there much at all. One of the trash cans was full when we got there and it turns out the wheels on it are broken so I had to drag the full weight of it to the street when we left. There was trash on the floor in several spots when we arrived and the place had not been cleaned very well. The floor left our feet black and we had to rewash every dish we used because dried food was stuck on it. There were also hairs stuck on the shower walls and the bathtub would not hold water (not good when you need to give the kids a bath). We also had to buy bath mats (which we left there for safety) to keep from sliding all over. On top of it all, the coffee maker didn't even work properly. Another major issue was that the thermostat was locked so you could not turn it down past 70. This would probably be ok if the thermostat was reading the correct temp in the house. In reality it would be much warmer in the house, but the AC would not run because it thought the temp was cooler. We like it much cooler in our home and for the overpriced rental amount we should have been able to set the thermostat to be comfortable. It was difficult sleeping at night because it was so warm and my son's allergies are also much worse when it is warm. One good thing I will say about the property is its location. It was very easy to walk over to the beach. However, I will likely never stay here again and will make sure no one else I know does either. There are much nicer/safer places for less just down the road!
Of all the years we have rented properties on the Outer Banks, we have never received a review like this one - and you are invited to read them all. Any issues this tenant mentioned will be addressed, and if in fact found, they will be corrected. Hard to believe a cottage could fall apart between two renters.
Perfect beach location
Cozy beach house in a great location! On a quiet road with a short and easy walk to the beach. Lots of great activities and restaurants nearby both north and south. The house was clean and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We would definitely rent this house again.
Clean, cozy, close to beach and dining. DIan is very easy to deal with. Responded quickly on email and phone. We will go back
Great weekend retreat
Had a great time away with friends! The house was comfortable. Loved being so close to the beach!
Basic Beach House
Location: The home is located in Kitty Hawk, which is the sleepier part of OBX. This worked for us as we did not want to be among all the shops and traffic. It's *close* to all that, but not in the thick of it. We stayed in the off season. The neighborhood is older and residential, so that was also quiet. It's a block and a half from the beach, so you could see the ocean between the houses and are a very short walk away.
Home: This is an older home. It hasn't been updated much. It has wood paneling throughout, but the photos show that. There is a VHS player for the tv... It was comfortable enough though and the price was right. We didn't actually spend too much time in the house. There were 8 of us and it's a bit tight for bathroom use, but other than that it is adequate. There was lots of hot water.
We cooked a lot and the kitchen had everything we needed. It didn't come stocked with any cleaners (for dishes or the bathrooms), trash bags, or anything like that, so we had to get that. The bed was okay. I think we all slept like rocks. The sun and sea wear you out! The walls are paper thin, so if anyone is awake, you hear it in the bedrooms.
I think it's a great place if you are looking for something basic and close to the beach.
