The building Vertical Forest
The 'Vertical Forest' comes as part of the Porta Nuova, the largest urban renewal project in Europe, in view of Milan Expo 2015. The project includes two residential towers of 110 meters respectively (Tower E, 27-storey) and 76 meters (Tower D, 18-storey), designed by the studio Boeri (by the architects Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca and Giovanni La Varra) . The buildings overlook Via Confalonieri and Via de Castillia.
The building houses more than 1,000 trees, shrubs and flowering plants, in a bold experiment in environmental sustainability. In this way, Milan contributes to the fight against fine dust and the production of oxygen. Among the technologies used: the exploitation of renewable energy sources (geothermal heating), 500 square meters of photovoltaic panels, thermal insulation, choice of building materials and non-biodegradable pollutants, rainwater collection for irrigation of public areas.
The largest pedestrian area of Porta Nuova, approximately 160,000 square meters, in which you put the Vertical Forest, includes the Giardini di Porta Nuova, the Garden Isle De Castillia square, the architects Gae Aulenti -Opera, and Argentine Cesar Pelli-, pedestrian paths of Garibaldi and the pedestrian walkway between Via Melchiorre Gioia and the district Varesine.
- Surveillance system in the lobby (CCTV)- Plate reading system in the garage- Conciergerie (24 hours a day) and a guest waiting area lit by large windows and views of the park of Via de Castillia
-19 November 2014: the Vertical Forest won the International Highrise Award, a biennial international competition for the award of the most beautiful and innovative skyscraper in the world, sponsored by the Museum of Architecture in Frankfurt. He defeated 800 contestants skyscrapers, including the "De Rotterdam" in Rotterdam, the "One Central Park" in Sydney, the "Renaissance Barcelona Fira Hotel" in Barcelona, the 'Sliced Porosity Block' in Chengdu.
The Vertical Forest is located in the district of Porta Nuova, the beating heart of the new Milan, between Piazza di Lombardia City -which houses the futuristic building of the region Lombardia- and the train station Porta Garibaldi.
All around are some of the most important buildings of the redevelopment project, including Unicredit Tower-among the highest skyscrapers Italy- Square Gae Aulenti scene of important events in the fashion and culture Milanese- and the iconic architecture of the Diamond Tower.
