About Debra Madigan
We are a hardworking and fun loving couple. We have been married for 25 wonderful years. We have two great kids! One is attending college in Colorado and one is in high school. We live in Northern California in what is referred to as the Napa/Sonoma wine country. We love to go wine tasting with our friends.
Debra Madigan purchased this Cabin in 1999
Why Debra Madigan chose Dollar Point
We have been traveling to Tahoe for many years. We love to snow ski, hike, raft, bike, and enjoy sailing on the lake. It is so exciting to head to the mountains when it is snowing to ski in fresh powder and retreat to a cozy cabin with a roaring fire. The restaurants are plentiful with lots of good music groups playing. In the summer the lake is absolutely beautiful with clear water. We love to sail to restaurants to have lunch or dinner or find a sandy beach to drop anchor. Rafting down the Truckee river is a great party, relaxing and thrilling at the same time. We always have a great time in Tahoe. Hiking to waterfalls, biking to River Ranch or Squaw, there is always lots to do!
What makes this Cabin unique
Our homeowners association is great. They have mixer barbeques at the pool every Wednesday night! The tennis pro has drills and lessons and if you time it right, tournaments. There is a great big lawn by the pool to hang out, ping pong table, play structure for the kids and bocce ball court. We have a big sandy beach with large umbrellas provided, more tennis courts, a long pier, and volleyball court on the sand. There is a place for big beach party with a reservation. Dollar Point has easy access in the winter and we have plently of off street parking. It is located centrally to all the ski resorts. We improve our property every year and it keeps getting better and better. It is one house from Edgewood and they all have full lake views.

Quaint and cozy
We had a great time. A bit smaller then we anticipated but that was ok. Kids loved the kids room, beds, pool table. Everyone slept great.
A charming cabin
We enjoyed our stay there. The cabin is spacious and very well equipped. The only problem we had was that we set heating too warm during the night and the house was so noisy with the temperature changes, after we set the temperature colder at night we had no issues.
Unfortunately the property is old and not taken care of, it was clearly purchased a long time ago and made with very cheap material including a particle board interior. Owners have not updated anything in many years. No insulation makes for a very hot house in summer and I assume freezing winter. Beds were at least 20 yrs old each and uncomfortable. Couches just as old, toilet seat upstairs was so worn in you could see brown board interior under paint. (New seats are less than $20). I now know why the place was still available when we booked so late. Further we showed up with no key available, sheets are on top of bed and owner expects renter to make their own beds (so they can save money) on arrival and it took more than 2 weeks for my deposit to be returned. It is evident owners are trying to spend as little as possible and make as much as possible from this house. I prefer to rent from people that love their home and treat it as such. The one saving grace is Dollar Point is a great location.
This is simply not true. We are the second owners of this very sturdy Kitzbuhel modified A-frame cabin. We have replaced the windows, siding, kitchen, lighting, furniture and the list continues. The guest made a good observation of the toilet seat, so we replaced it. This guest has never stayed here in the winter, so he would not know how cozy it is with the hydronic heating that keeps the cabin at an even temperature. In summer, just open the windows, but we also have fans in the bedrooms. The beds are newer with a less than one year old Lodge Pole bunk bed. The only exception is the king size bed which we find to be very comfortable, so will not be changing anytime soon. We are ecology minded and believe in water conservation, that is why the sheets are folded on top of the beds so housekeeping knows which sheets to wash. This is clearly stated in the housekeeping instructions when the reservation is made. Housekeeping did take the key in error but we had a back-up key available which the guest used. This guest checked out on July 17th and immediately demanded his deposit back. We accommodated him by returning it in full on July 24th which is one week earlier than the VRBO/Homeaway standard. We love our vacation home and are happy to make it available to guests to also enjoy.
I had a wonderful stay in Dollar Point. Our host was accommodating and the house was beautiful. Would come again!
December 2015 Stay in Tahoe
Pros: Owners are fine to work with. The cabin was very cute, cozy and clean. The small kitchen is very well equipped and had good quality appliances. Nice floor plan and fireplace in living area. Nice flat screen TV.
Cons: Bed in downstairs bedroom was very soft and on shaky frame. Bed in master bedroom was in only fair condition. I looked and mattress was old. Good beds are a high priority with us. One living room couch was exceptionally unsupportive for a 185 lb. person. If these items are corrected, we would definitely like to return.
I am glad you found the cabin cozy and well equipped. There are two couches facing each other, a firm leather couch and an upholstered one. The seating is appropriate for people who like comfort and those that prefer firm. The master bedroom king size mattress is old but it was hardly used over the years. We like it because it is really comfortable. So we have no plans to replace it. The downstairs bed is new, so it just goes to show it is hard to please everybody. The lodge pole bunk bed in the kid's room is brand new this year. Now that our kids are grown, going up with two other couples gives us each a private room. We love the cabin and strive to update it when necessary.
Our review for this cabin
We rented this property for the Christmas week of 2013. The property was not clean and sanitized as expected, but we were charged for 4 hrs of cleaning even though majority of properties do not charge cleaning fees if you stay for longer than a week. When we arrived in the cabin we found 2 used, empty coffee paper cups and stale bread in a plastic bag in the refrigerator, several unused paper plates under the bed in the 1st floor bedroom and trace of toothpaste in the sink in 2nd floor bathroom. The owner of the property didn't not provide toilet paper, hand soap and wood logs for the fire place as the other owners for rental properties do. $50 were deducted from our security deposit which according to the owner is an "irreplaceable antique angel plaque" the price of which on ebay one can replace between $5.99-$19.99. This was our experience with this owner which I would like to share with and forwarn possible renters for this property.
This guest has been renting in Tahoe for 15 years but evidently never back to the same place twice and we were just unfortunately next on the list. Housekeeping was not optional and a one page rental agreement was signed clearly stating the rules along with reinforcing emails. We were at the cabin prior to her arrival taking delivery of a new lodge pole bed and her statements are simply untrue. The angel in question hung above the master bed for 15 years and unfortunately we could not find an exact replacement but found one of similar quality for $39.99 not including shipping on ebay. I did not charge her for the broken DVD player as we had planned to upgrade to Blu-ray anyway. I do forgive accidents and do not charge guests when they call and tell me what happened and it was clearly an accident. Negligence is not forgiven.
