Recently, we just had the bathroom remodeled and became a shower instead of bathtub. Very nice!

While staying in Venice, days might include: fishing off the beach surf-line, one of the piers or off the inland waterway rock jetties exit to the Gulf, hunting for sharks’ teeth at Casperson Beach, hailed as the shark tooth capital of the world (one of only two beaches in the world where fossilized sharks teeth abound and you can just scoop them up), and even spotting manatees or where turtles nest. Water-sports are available nearby and rental outfitters are plentiful.
Sip a drink with other sunset watchers at Venice Beach, the Venice Pier or Venice Jetties and watch the Dolphins just off-shore playing and rolling in the surf.
Enjoy days or weeks of boating, sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving or any number of water oriented sports. The balmy gulf waters leave you with no excuse but to hit the surf. And, hey, if you just want to veg out, quaff a sangria or margarita and ogle the eye-candy, that’s the place to go.
You’ll not want to miss the local Drum Circle held on the beach at nearby Nokomis Beach [see map] every Wednesday and Saturday evenings starting around 2 hours before sunset. There are a variety of people who gyrate to the native rhythms doing belly-dancing, hula hooping, Taiji Dancing, juggling, shapely Wahines along with some people who just want to let it all hang out in an evening of carefree abandon dancing like no one is watching. :--))
If you want to see what the Drum Circle is, go to YouTube and search for “Nokomis Drum Circle” and it will give you an idea of what goes on there.
Be sure to bring your beach chair, cooler, favorite libation and stay for an evening of entertainment. If you have something to bang on or shake [drum, tambourine, maracas, spoons, 5 gallon paint can, or whatever…bring that too and join us there….all you need do is just keep the beat.
There’s enough golf courses in the area to satisfy most golfer’s needs.
For you day trippers, hikers, and nature enthusiasts, there are numerous state parks and nature preserves within a 25 mile radius where you can go hiking, birding, sightseeing, treetop canopy walking, or just sit around in one of the parks/preserves enjoying your nature surroundings while waiting to see what flies, slithers or comes charging at you out of the wilderness.
For those of you who like an endurance challenge [walk, skip, hop, crawl, rollerblade, bike, Segway or however you propel yourself], you’ll want to start your “tour de force” on the local Venetian Waterway Park Trail starting at Shamrock Park, in south Venice, and connecting to the “Rails to Trails” Legacy Trail [Google these for more details] at the historic Venice Train Depot and extending all the way up to Potter Park in Sarasota.
The Legacy Trail between Sarasota to Venice covers 12 miles and runs along a former CSX Railroad corridor. The trail passes by lovely waterways and includes rest areas with benches and restrooms. A new bypass over US 41 allows for a direct connection with The Venetian Waterway Park Trail at the historic Venice Train Depot.
The Venetian Waterway Park Trail follows along both sides of the Intracoastal Waterway, from the ocean north and somewhat east, past the Venice Airport to north of Venice Avenue. It is flat and often windy, passing through a mix of urban corridor and open green space. Colorful murals, covered rest and picnic areas and interpretive signs dot the way. You will also find playgrounds, fitness stops and parks.
We love our place and all Venice has to offer, and hope you will too [and so will your wallet.]
