Beautiful condo in a remarkable setting

  • 5 of 5

Sheila's condo was the perfect place for us--very clean and confortable, with a good queen sized bed and an astoundingly well-equipped kitchen...Plenty of linens are provided. It was spacious for the two of us, but would have been comfortable for four since both sofa and loveseat open out. The wifi was free and fast. The amazing location was upstairs from a bakery, coffee shop and restaurant, and art gallery. The living room picture window (which was spotless) has a view of the bay, complete with ferry, sailboats and sunsets. Right across the street are several shops, including kayak, bike, and moped rental. Up the street is "Tom's Burned Down Cafe"--a very unique local hangout. The back porch looks toward the woods and the sunrise, and has some patio chairs and a table...the photos on the site capture it nicely. Sheila is a great VRBO host. Our email was answered within a few hours. She has placed many thoughtful extras--safety and first aid supllies, toiletry samples, as well as books and travel guides. I sincerely hope to return to the island, and to Sheila's!

Nice place to stay while on Madeline Island, but noisy.

  • 2 of 5

The condo itself was very clean and plenty of room for two people. She also had a little basket in the bathroom with all kinds of stuff(floss, conditioner, lotion, etc.) which was great in case you forget something! There are two bikes that we were allowed to use and I really appreciated the basket on one. It made it very easy to put a jacket and waters in while we went on a bike ride along the island. That was one of our favorite parts of our trip. Madeline island has great roads/bike lanes that make it easy to get around and see the whole island.

The only thing about the condo was that the refrigerator makes a very loud BANG when it shuts off. It sounds like a screen door is slamming shut. We thought someone was coming into the apartment the first night we stayed there until we figured out what it was! And once we figured out what it was, it still woke us up many times throughout the night. We would shut the bedroom door and it would drown out the sound but then the bedroom gets VERY warm because the air conditioning unit was in the living room. We ended up leaving two days early because we couldn't get a very good nights sleep because of that and the location of the condo.

When we rented the condo we thought the location right in downtown and above a coffee shop would be great. It turned out to be a noisy location. There was a bar across the street (Tom's burned down café) which had music going until 3am every night and the bakery & coffee shops below started work around 5-6am. This is not the condo's fault but we just want future renters to be aware of our experience. It was a good location to catch the ferry fast, but if we stayed on the island again we would not stay in the middle of downtown.

It was also very expensive for us to go back and forth from Bayfield to Madeline Island. It was $51 round trip for two adults and a vehicle. Each time we wanted to go explore Bayfield area it was $27 dollars for the two of us. Also not the condo's fault but people should be aware of the extra costs when planning their trip! :)

Owner's Response: Dear Jenna, I'm glad you were able to ride the bikes around the island. It's great fun isn't it? The island is a fun little spot where you can find solitude in the woods and the shores or 'urban' living in the village of LaPointe. I'm sorry that the downtown life wasn't to your liking! Thank you for letting me know (on 9/30) about the fridge making noise. If you would have called we could have it repaired or replaced with a new one within 24 hours. I want everyone's stay to be as wonderful as they envisioned!

Great condo

  • 5 of 5

We totally loved the condo. The location was so handy to the ferry as we did not bring our car. We used the bikes that were there for renters. We also appreciated all the updates on things before we came like using a cart from the ferry to all the extras that were provided at the condo that we did not expect. It was decorated so nicely with a theme that matched the area. If we are on the island again, we definitely would hope to stay at this condo again. It was great!!! Thanks for a great time.

Great Condo!

  • 4 of 5

Sheila's Downtown Condo is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Madeline Island. The location is perfect and Sheila is a pleasure to work with- very helpful and informative. The condo is just like an apartment, well equipped kitchen and bathroom. Comfortable bed. Nice view of the ferry dock and lake from the living room window. Reasonably priced. Would recommend staying at this condo when visiting Madeline Island.

Great Location and Very Comfortable Condo

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Sheila's condo was ideal. Located in the heart of La Point, it was very convenient to the various amenities the island has to offer. The accommodations are clean and well-cared for with everything we could ask for to make our visit a delight. Comfortable bed, big fluffy towels, air conditioned, satellite TV, WiFi, well-appointed kitchen and private parking. We trailered our 22 foot sailboat across on the ferry and found the folks at the marina to be super friendly and helpful too. The information provided by both her VRBO site and her personal attention to our needs made our Madeline Island sailing adventure a total pleasure. I recommend Sheila's condo without any hesitation. We'd gladly return.
