About Jan and Michael Letchford
We, my husband and daughter, moved into this house when we moved to France in 2013. We came from the UK. We stayed in the house for a year so know it well year round. We now live half an hour away. We moved to experience French life and are still enjoying the experience. We can give information and advice about what to see and do in the area. We have a lovely, if slightly crazy, dog called Hally.

Why Jan and Michael Letchford chose Capestang
We loved this house as it felt like a good year round home. The warm log burner for chilly winters and the terrace and air con for hot summers. We loved this area as the choices of what to do are great. We think there is something for everyone whatever you enjoy. Half an hour to the beach. The large cities of Montpellier and Toulouse are both reachable in under 2 hours. Barcelona is less than 3 hours away!! The Pyrenees are great for skiing in winter or just long beautiful walks in summer. The Cathar castles are nearby and of course the most famous is Carcassonne, which is under an hour away. The black mountains have lovely scenery and caves and lakes are plentiful. Rivers round here offer canoeing and wild swimming opportunities. Our favourite river swim is at Roquebrune and the drive there is also spectacular. Cycling is popular and bikes can be stored securely in the yard at the back of the house. This yard is also good for log storage in winter for the log burner. Capestang itself is charming with its popular square and twice weekly market. The local boulangerie IS fabulous and only 70 steps away!! The canal du midi is 5 minutes walk away and boats can be hired to experience life on the water. The tow path is a great way to walk off the bread, wine and cheese!! Talking of Languedoc produces some fantastic wines and many wineries offer tasting and tours are available. I'm sure you will agree this area has something for everyone.
What makes this House unique
I'm not sure we're unique!! But the house is lovely the sunny terrace never disappoints. The beds are comfy. It's a cool house due to the thick stone walls so a nice respite from the heat of the summer. The walls do their job in winter too and the log burner keeps you cozy. The stairs are steep and windy so maybe infirm folks or toddlers would sadly be better off somewhere else. Parking is not really possible outside as it's a very narrow street but a free carpark is just a minutes walk away. (You can drop off luggage and shopping at the end of the street 10 meters away). The narrow street does have advantages, as no one drives down it, it is very quiet.

COMFORTABLE AND WELL EQUIPPED HOUSE IN A VERY CENTRAL LOCATION IN CAPESTANG .JAN AND MICHAEL VERY PLEASANT AND HELPFUL, THANKS FOR A ENJOYABLE RELAXING BREAK
A superb 3 storey townhouse in very central but quiet location in lovely, historic Capestang.
Great access from this terraced townhouse to Capestang's Restaurants/cafes plus Canal du Midi, on foot. Also only 30 mins by car to Beziers (definitely 'vaut la visite' ) or Beaches.
House extremely well equipped and well modernised. Bathrooms (2) ,Loos/showers etc, excellent. No courtyard/garden but great roof terrace with small covered kitchen. Also larger kitchen on ground floor but we used the one on the terrace all the time.
Air-con on first floor keeps whole house cool.
Ideal for adults/teenagers. Steep-ish staircase and no garden means probably not ideal for very young children/very old. However, I had no problems with the stairs and am in my seventies.
Ideal for exploring area, particularly if cycling or hiring day-boat on canal. Easy parking at Foyer Rural/Chateau close by the house.See the medieval ceiling paintings inside-amazing.
Capestang has all shops you need including two bakers and large supermarket with gas station on edge of village.
Would recommend Vigneron Philippe Cros's restaurant not far from west side of main square.
We (three adults) had a great time and would book again & recommend to friends .
Listing very accurate. Property spotless. Owners charming(English as it happens)-wine/fruit/fresh milk awaiting us.
Would give the house and Capestang 10/10.
Thank you for your great review and we are really glad you had a good time. We hope to meet you again.
