About the property

Large 1 Bedroom, Stunning Views From Wrap Around Windows Sleeps 5, Close To TS

We have added this adobe house in the Apple Hill Farm complex for your enjoyment. Built in the mid '80's it is the original home in the complex. A large bedroom with a queen Beautyrest mattress and a comfortable sitting area affords stunning views of the mountains to the east. Lay in bed and watch the stars and moon at night or the light changing in the early morning over the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Watching a full moon rise is a sight you won't forget! Or take your morning cup of coffee or tea in the sitting area and feel the peace and tranquility that fall so softly in this area just east of the village of Arroyo Seco. This room also boasts an extra sink with mirror where the gals can apply their makeup, or the guys can shave. There is also a desk with bookcase if you absolutely have to bring work with you, or if you are a writer needing quiet space for your typewriter or laptop. The bedroom also has Dish Network and Hi-def TV with DVD player. The living room, also large, accommodates a queen size sleeper sofa that will sleep 2. A pack 'n play or tri-fold out foam mattress that will sleep a 5th family member is available upon request. There is Hi-def TV with Dish Network in the living room also, along with a large DVD selection suitable for all ages. Tall windows on 3 sides gives you the feel of being surrounded by the beauty of the area. The living room also has a wood stove and a 'kiva' fireplace. Wood and kindling is provided by the caretaker. The home is heated with natural gas, and the wood stove and kiva provide an added ambiance on cold days. The kitchen, dining and living areas are all open to each other so you can cook a meal while having everyone together for a conversation. The long dining table seats 5. A booster seat is available upon request. The kitchen is fully equipped with Calphalon pots and pans, Cuisinart coffee maker, microwave, toaster oven, hand mixer, blender, hand made ceramic dishes and mugs. A 4 burner full size natural gas stove and oven and full size refrigerator and freezer, and a dishwasher offer all the comforts and conveniences of home. The house is built with the traditional adobe bricks and ceiling supports called 'vigas', full logs of ponderosa pines that were, and still are, the building materials of choice centuries ago. Saltillo tiles cover all the floors with colorful rugs to add some visual warmth and comfort to the feet. A fenced patio area, with flagstone sitting area and an abundance of native plants and a barbeque grill and sitting area, gives you a place to have breakfast, dinner, or a glass of wine before heading off to one our excellent restaurants. This is a semi-private property, one of 3 homes available to you, set back from the road on over 2 acres of fenced-in land (perfect romping ground for your pup!). One of the delights and advantages of a complex is that I feel you will enjoy meeting the other wonderful and interesting travelers who are staying in either Casita des Montes, or the straw bale house at Apple Hill Farm. Consider booking another of the other homes here for a family reunion or gathering of high school or college friends. You might ask about the option of booking all three houses and holding a workshop. The 3 houses will accommodate a maximum of 13, though parking is limited to no more than 9 cars. Our guests have enjoyed walking to Arroyo Seco, bicycling from the front door to the Taos Ski Valley, or just romping with their dog in the fenced 3 acres. Ask about our dog policy, Casa Manzanita and Apple Hill Farm are dog friendly. We are delighted to add this Casa to our family of homes at Apple Hill Farm, and whether you are a first time traveler to Taos, or to Arroyo Seco, or if you are familiar with the area, or a past guest, I hope you will consider staying with us at Casa Manzanita at Apple Hill Farm.

About Lorca

I am a licensed massage therapist living in Portland, Oregon with my 2 boys and extended family. I specialize in Maya abdominal massage. I inherited the property, Casa Manzanita, and Casita des Montes, from my father in 1997. My mom, Nancy, built the straw bale house in 2004.

Lorca purchased this house in 1985

Why Lorca chose Arroyo Seco

My father fell in love with the property and the des Montes area when it was mostly farm and grazing land, before it was as developed as it is now. I spent many happy childhood summers in the Taos area, making lasting friendships.

What makes this house unique

The views from the property are what amaze everyone, at all times of day or night, in every weather condition or season: A sunset, a moonrise, a mist over the mountains.... when that mist rises and reveals the mountains covered with a fresh blanket of snow; huge vistas, all the way to Abiquiu where you can see the famous Cerro Pedernal, the subject of many of the artist Georgia O'Keefe's paintings; the peace, and the quiet, and the stars! Step outside, onto the almost 3 acres of Apple Hill Farm and you just might find yourself wondering if there is property for sale in the area! No kidding, it has happened to several of our guests, so be prepared to fall in love with our little piece of paradise here in Northern New Mexico!

My husband and I rented three vrbo properties this summer: one in CO, MI, and this one in NM. This Casa beat the other two hands down. Not only was Casa Manzanita spotlessly clean, there was attention to detail in decorating, provisioning, and making sure our stay met our expectations. It did that and more. The location is close to hikes off the Ski Valley road and within walking distance of quaint Arroyo Seco and Taos Cow ice cream. After spending a month here, I would never even think about going anywhere else. We appreciated the effort made in recycling and in provision of organic products. The garden patio harbored goldfinches and pine siskins. We recommend this rental to a couple or to anyone who likes to be pampered.

Spacious and well appointed!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in all three Apple Hill Farm accommodations and we are never disappointed. Linda is on site, available, hospitable, but not intrusive. Casita Manzanita is spacious and the attention to detail is remarkable. The natural light that is abundant in each room is truly a blessing. The quality of the kitchen knives and cookware show a true commitment by the owners to make our stay enjoyable. This is not your average rental!

Just north of the town of Taos, Casa Manzanita is in a sweeping setting near the small village of Arroyo Seco, on the way to the Taos Ski Valley. Hiking trailheads are only a few miles away. We are off the beaten path, on a quiet paved road, yet only 20 minutes to Taos. Arroyo Seco has an abundance of excellent eateries, galleries, shops and activities, including horseback riding and hiking. There is a 360 degree view of mountains, high desert and stunning sunrises and sunsets to knock your socks off. Listen to the coyotes at night, and watch the bunnies cavort during the day.
