This 3 bedroom 3 bath second floor apartment was constructed in 2006. It faces west and every afternoon is blessed with a fresh breeze off the ocean and a gorgeous sunset. The pool and palapa are meters from the beach which is never crowded. The kitchen includes a dishwasher, fridge and freezer, stove and oven. Maid service is provided once per week (3 hours). Excellent restaurants are within a block or two from the front door.
Please do not attempt to make a booking without speaking to me initially as first choice of dates is given to returning guests and family. Also Casa del Mar is not for everyone. It is my family’s vacation home and our tastes may not be yours. I prefer to ensure we are both satisfied.

Pool / Spa
We stayed on the second floor of this beachfront property and our experience was somewhat mixed. On the plus side...the view from the property was stunning and we enjoyed breakfasts on the balcony and many an evening sunset. The pool, although small, was clean and always refreshing. The apartment was spacious and comfortable in its size. Location was great with easy access to shops, restaurants and transportation (cab or bus). On the negative side....the bathrooms often had a septic smell (owner gave an explanation but the smell the first night was almost over powering when bathroom door was open) and were not really clean (e.g. soap scum on the sink); the kitchen could also have been cleaner but all appliances did work. Overall the apartment left a somewhat shabby impression....old cushions on the living room furniture, too bright overhead lights (some small table lamps in living room/dining room would have been a big help), walls could use a fresh coat of paint, old and frayed towels were given (we had to request beach towels and that took almost 2 days) and almost anything stainless steel was rusty. You also have to "restock" with paper towels and toilet paper when you leave......not a reasonable expectation for the cost of the apartment and it was not fully stocked when we arrived (e.g., no fresh soap in bathrooms or dish soap or paper towels....even missing basic cutlery which we then borrowed from guests in the downstairs apartment). The kitchen did have tiny ants but keeping counters clean and washing them with vinegar really helped.....but yes, you had to buy the vinegar. With a bit of care and attention this apartment could be amazing. "This is Mexico and at the ocean" is not an excuse for the shabbiness.....our second week was at a different ocean front condo in Manzanillo that was stunning in every way and was fully stocked.
The location of this building is super as the reviewer states. It looks west across the Pacific and the next land fall is Hawaii. Every afternoon the incredible cooling winds unique to this bay in Manzanillo blow strong off the ocean and when there is a large surf breaking everything gets covered in salt spray. I would not trade this location for any other in Manzanillo even with the destructive salt spray. As an example when I bought the apartment in 2008 it was just over a year old and since then the apartment has been painted twice and the living room 3 times and yes it is ready to be painted again. In the late evening the wind dies down and then blows lightly from the landward side. The “septic” smell could only come through the 2 bathroom windows and into the bathrooms on the landward side. I called the previous tenant and he told me there was no odour coming from the bathrooms, my maintenance man checked and reported the same. I laid out the towel and they are less than an year old and had only been used a month and were not frayed. One of the previous owners was a professional chef and when he sold the price included his well stocked kitchen utensils which we augmented with a Henckel pots and pans and new flatware. I had some living room cushions borrowed and not returned. The “shabby” cushions are actually new, made in Manzanillo, not Guadalajara as the originals.
Upon arrival the reviewer was given a paper with suggestions and my email address with instructions to email if there were any problems, they never contacted me.
After seeing this review I telephoned the reviewer and talked to the husband who said he had no knowledge of this review. He told me his wife was the author was away for 5 weeks and I requested a call back but didn’t receive one. The husband told me he thought the kitchen was well stocked, the septic smell was not a normal sewer smell and we agreed it probably came from outside through the open bathroom windows on the two landward side bathrooms.
Over 60% of our guests are repeat and the percentage grows each year, my email address is left in the apartment and I encourage people to email me if they have problems, the staff are warm, friendly and helpful and can enrich your visit to their country if you treat them with respect and honesty.
Absolutely love this place
I've stayed here several times and always look forward to returning. The location is superb, right on a quiet beach looking west. The sunsets are always gorgeous. I especially like the proximity to the traffic circle because it makes it really easy to get anywhere in the city. I like the open living dining and kitchen area, you can see the ocean and sunset while making and serving dinner. One of my favourite things about this place is the pool has a beautiful tile sea turtle design that's a delight to swim in.
This beach never gets busy because it's steeper than Miramar, and usually your only company is a solitary fisherman in the mornings. There is a small wreckage of some kind just a minute's swim away and it attracts quite a few pretty reef fish.
This location is great if you're looking for a quiet getaway and enjoy bird watching and swimming in the ocean while still wanting to have access to great restaurants and opportunities to explore the city.
What's not to like.
This was our second visit to Paul's beachfront home. From the well appointed rooms, to the afternoon las brisas keeping the temperature a perfect 28C and the sound of the surf outside your bedroom lulling you to sleep at night, everything was delightful.
Relax and enjoy. Your on vacation
Very quiet even though the location puts you close to everything. Big 3 bedroom 3 bath has everything you need to relax. The pool was very refreshing and the beach right out front with miles to walk. Did not want for anything but more time to enjoy it longer. Will definitely be back in the future.
Great Place to have a family reunion!
We had our annual family reunion here and were 9 adults and 6 infants. We rented both units and it met our needs in so many ways! It is pretty luxurious for the price, has a great view of the ocean, and every room has a bathroom. It is well located in the city and a huge plus was the pool, which was well-maintained and perfect for infants as it had a large shallow end of about 6 inches. The beach slopes off, and so is not for infants, but we adults enjoyed it. We were a little take aback by the extra charge for the air conditioning, but the price for what we got was so reasonable we did not mind that.
Beautiful place, great location!
We rented both the bottom and top units for a two week vacation with friends and kids. The place was spacious and clean, with most everything we needed right there. The location is perfect, a short cab ride away from large grocery stores, walking distance to great restaurants, and the view is amazing. The pool is very nice, refreshing, and well maintained. The beach is wonderful too for the kids to play on, but the waves are a little big for swimming. The on-site staff were very helpful and happy to assist us with any needs. All in all it was a wonderful trip and we look forward to visiting again!
