About Carey Sams
Dexter Sams was a General Contractor in Pilot Mountain, NC who specialized in period renovation. He restored a number of 19th century log and classic homes in the Foothills area over the last 25 years. He is recently deceased. The property is managed by family in his honor.
Carey Sams purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Carey Sams chose Quaker Gap
This log home is the result of reinventing the role of the local builder to make the most of the natural materials at hand by manually felling each tree and milling the logs for building materials on site. Coupled with the desire to preserve tobacco farming memorabilia, this first of several cabins displays the original logs from historic 1880 circa barns.
What makes this Cabin unique
This space was created with an appreciation for natural scenery, simple quiet and to support human need to decompress and reconnect with the great outdoors within a short ride from the Triad and Southwest Virginia.

Very clean, quiet, and peaceful
My wife and I stayed at the cabin one weekend and were quite surprised at the care that went into this place. Being away from television was a blessing. We actually put one of the jigsaw puzzles together. It was a great bonding time.
Very lovely property. Quiet clean and a great view.
Conveniently located to local attractions
We hiked, shopped, had a wonderful peaceful retreat in a sweet cabin! Thank you for sharing this little "peace" of serenity with us! Y'all are awesome!
Thank you so much for providing such a wonderful place to relax! I planned tons of activities for the weekend, but we were enjoying the cabin so much we only ended up leaving once to hike Pilot Mountain. Walks to the pond and grilling out with dinner on the deck were highlights. My favorite part of the weekend was watching the sunrise over the mountain from the porch swing. Thank you for working with us to arrange a late checkout and returning an item we left behind!
Glad to assist and glad we could accommodate you as asked. We hope you can return and enjoy another relaxing and picturesque stay. Thanks!
What a pleasant surprise—we found the cabin and amenities—not to mention the view simply spectacular. I have always wanted to spend some time tucked away in a cabin in the mountains of NC and this experience met all my expectations. It was peaceful, serene and relaxing—-and even though it gave the sense of seclusion—it was conveniently located to the local restaurants and wineries. I truly enjoyed not having a television or other electronics. We simply played the radio that had a wonderful country station with excellent reception and enjoyed some conversation. Our weekend held rain; however, we still enjoyed the sound of the rain falling outside and the warmth if the log burning fireplace. If your looking for a romantic getaway or a home-away-from-home to reconnect with those you love and a place to regenerate your soul then this is your spot...
We wish you many years of success and thank-you again—
We hope to return in the future!
It was every that I had hoped for and more. I will recommend it to my friends.
I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. The cabin was immaculate when you left. Thank you so much for your support.
