About Carey Sams

Dexter Sams is a General Contractor in Pilot Mountain, NC who specializes in period renovation as he has restored a number of 19th century log and classic homes in the Foothills area over the last 25 years. He also does new construction.

Carey Sams purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Carey Sams chose Pilot Mountain

This log home is the result of reinventing the role of the local builder to make the most of the natural materials at hand by manually felling each tree and milling the logs for building materials on site. Coupled with the desire to preserve tobacco farming memorabilia, this first of several cabins displays the original logs from historic 1880 circa barns.

What makes this cabin unique

This space was created with an appreciation for natural scenery, simple quiet and to support human need to decompress and reconnect with the great outdoors within a short ride from the Triad and Southwest Virginia.

Better than presented

  • 5 of 5

Cabin was immaculate and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. The surrounding land was private with a nice walking area and a fishing pond to enjoy. Saw deer during our walk and listened to coyotes night while enjoying the wood burning fireplace. Convenient to shopping and sightseeing attractions. Loved it!!

breath taking

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived I was astounded at the wood work throughout the whole house. I was blown away by the view I had swinging on the front porch. We had plenty of firewood on our rainy evenings. That and Chuck Berry's Greatest Hits record kept us entertained. Overall, great place to stay at a very affordable price.
