About Dexter Sams

Dexter Sams is a General Contractor in Pilot Mountain, NC who specializes in period renovation as he has restored a number of 19th century log and classic homes in the Foothills area over the last 25 years. He also does new construction.

Dexter Sams purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Dexter Sams chose Blue Ridge Mountains

This log home is the result of reinventing the role of the local builder to make the most of the natural materials at hand by manually felling each tree and milling the logs for building materials on site. Coupled with the desire to preserve tobacco farming memorabilia, this first of several cabins displays the original logs from historic 1880 circa barns.

What makes this cabin unique

This space was created with an appreciation for natural scenery, simple quiet and to support human need to decompress and reconnect with the great outdoors within a short ride from the Triad and Southwest Virginia.

Great cabin. Friendly host. Lots to do nearby

We had a relaxing weekend with our dog. Everything we needed was there. We ventured out to Pilot Mountain, Hanging Rick and a couple of wineries (JOLO and Herrera). The lack of Internet and TV added to the relaxation and time for reflection. We will be back.

Words can't describe

A true treasure. We stayed for 2 days and we wish it could've been longer. There is so much to see and enjoy right outside the front door. Our fur babies had the most amazing time being able to run free and explore, and plenty of exploring they did. There are multiple ponds, fishing poles and a paddle boat ready to be put to use! The kitchen is soooo well equipped! We have rented so MANY cabins and the little things like sugar, cooking oils, some condiments, variety of spices free to use is absolutely lovely! One of our favorite things was the garden!! We loved being able to pick it ourselves and grill it up as we enjoyed the view on the porch. I really have to say that Dexter is quite the guy. He is so inviting and kind, before we even arrived he makes you feel like company, not just a tenant. When talking with him and exploring the area you truly can feel the love put into the home and the land. We are ready for our next trip already. Thank you again Dexter, couldn't have asked for anything better!
