About Karen Nelson

We enjoy our home away from home, and hope you will, too!

Karen Nelson purchased this house in 1998

Why Karen Nelson chose Bull Shoals Lake

This is a perfect balance between the style and feel of a woodsy cabin, while being in the heart of modern amenities. Be minutes from Branson, the area lakes, and more!

What makes this house unique

I can't imagine a better location to sample the Ozarks. Away from the big lights and bustle of Branson, you can relax and connect with the real lakes area. Stores and restaurants are minutes away (some even within walking distance!), but a 15-minute drive can have you strolling the Landing shops, tucking into a steak and lobster feast, or being ushered to your theater seat.

Fisherman and water-lovers can sample all three of the area lakes from the house, and several parks and state recreational areas are sprinkled throughout.

Thrill-seekers get their kicks at Silver Dollar City and White Water, approximately 30 minutes away.

As my folks used to say, "If you get bored around here, it's your own fault!"

I fell in love with the cozy comfort of this house, and know you will, too!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing 4 days and 4 nights at the Gingerbread Cottage. We were celebrating 21 years of marriage and this was close to perfect. Very private, very comfortable and very cozy.

There is a very usable kitchen area where we were able to cook a nice meal, and also bake a take and bake pizza we got from the local grocery store, which is walking distance. Very convenient. There was a nice selection of DVD movies there although we brought our own.

For a house so close to everything, it is very private and quiet. The house and property are clean, well maintained and functional. We hope to be able to stay at this little slice of happy again. Thank You Karen!!!

We Absolutely LOVED Our Time @ THE GINGERBREAD HOUSE!! (Don't miss your chance to stay here!)

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our vacation spent in this unique cabin, and we loved it! We couldn't have been more pleased with the accommodations. This is such a cozy, charming cottage. Everything was neat, tidy, and accessible. As soon as we put down our luggage, we felt at home. The cottage was equipped with everything we would need, as well as many things we would want, for our stay. Please read on for details that may help in YOUR decision to stay.

First of all, Miss Karen stocked the cabin in such a way that you could come in and actually live there...needing nothing except groceries for meals and your *luggage. (*However, even your luggage is something you could do without as there are several little boutiques, retail stores, and resale shops that can more than meet your needs for clothing and personal items.) We were surprised to find coffee, filters, and even Coffee Mate near the full-sized coffee maker. There were enough plates, bowls, cups, and utensils for an entire family --- None of these items were plastic, by the way. (The dishes were Corning Ware.) The salt & pepper shakers were full, and there were additional spices in the cupboard. There were plenty of paper towels and TP, as well as trash bags, aluminum foil and dish-washing liquid. Miss Karen was sure to have plenty of kitchen linens and hot pads on hand. I don't know if there was laundry detergent available (probably was). We never bothered to look since we brought our own.

Next, the living room was spacious with wood floors and comfy furniture. We enjoyed being "unplugged" since we were able to find entertainment on the local channels and the collection of DVDs made available to us. What's more, there were board games and a variety of reading material including some great books. The central AC kept the entire cabin cool, and the large ceiling fan in the living room kept the air moving, which added to our comfort.

Finally, the loft bedroom was perfect for us. The slanted ceilings provided the charm one would expect in an A-Frame cottage (one that actually has a LOFT bedroom - WOW!). Although there was central AC in the bedroom, the additional AC unit there provided for a truly comfortable night's sleep in a very soft bed. Extra bed linens are stored in the padded window seat.

Karen was a kind, gracious hostess. She even provided a binder of local information, phone numbers, and entertainment options. Thank you, Karen! -THE TAYLORS

It was very clean , wish it was more secluded but I knew that before I went.

  • 3 of 5

The cabin was super clean and the bed was so comfy. We were only 20 minutes from Branson. I do wish it was more secluded , there was a lot of steeet noise but other than that it was perfect. I wish I could take it home with me!

Great Cozy Place

  • 4 of 5

If you don't mind driving 13 miles toward Branson and no cable TV or Internet then this is the place to stay! My husband and I enjoyed the quaint cottage style house. Very clean! We didn't encounter any problems.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying in our vacation home. Many people enjoy the relaxed "unplugged" opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Ozark Mountains, while still being close enough to catch all the entertainment in Branson. We hope you had a pleasant stay and a safe journey home. Many thanks!

Great Cozy Little Place

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here in celebration of our 9th anniversary. We did not see mice or bugs anywhere as one other reviewer. We thought it was a great little cozy place. Very clean and updated décor. Couldn't be happier! We will likely be back. It would be great for a group of four as well. The couch folds out to accommodate another couple or two kiddos, however we did not use this feature. I gave it a slight less than perfect review because the mattress in the upstairs bed was too soft. We both sunk to the middle of the bed. No internet is an inconvenience as well.

Adorable, clean, cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My family LOVED our stay at the gingerbread house! It was super clean, in great condition, and adorable. My kids thought it looked like something out of a fairy-tale. It's close to everything Branson has to offer, but away from the craziness. You will not be disappointed.
